In this video, I'll show you how I will anchor my boat and why it's crucial for safety on the ocean and at anchorages.

Wire wrap the pin head. Use another shackle.

Always mouse the shackles! If you think it may needs to be replaced, replace it(the shackle)

Practice anchoring right behind the breakwall. It’s around 30ft. Get comfortable and then try Frenchy’s at Anacapa for a lunch hook.

So, not sure what the deal is with your rudder. But I have a 1975 I30 so it should be the same boat. When I had first bought it and had it on the hard a cool guy came by to chit chat as sailors are apt to do. He told me he has the same boat for a while. Told me a tidbit of information that was an absolute gem. This is what he said: this boat has what is called a “spade rudder”. It is completely independent of the keel. He told me that his boat had a tiller for steering. Mine had a wheel and pedestal. I found a tiller on board. He told me that one of the best features of the boat was the tiller and rudder can be inverted 180 degrees .. actually rotated 360 degrees if it’s on a tiller .. but rotated 180 when going in reverse. Doing this allowed the helmsman to maneuver the boat in reverse with basically surgical precision. I reversed out of many very dicey situations with ease after I removed the pedestal and installed the tiller. It also opened up the cockpit space wise and using an autopilot was much easier and cheaper. So.. good for thought.

Yeah absolutely! Im learning that it is actually very easy to maneuver. And after a long trip I went on recently I very much want to look at getting an autopilot for my tiller. Thanks for sharing :)
