I started building my bandsaw mill in aug 2016. I had spent years running my chainsaw mill but the logs I was finding were getting bigger and with a much higher frequency.

I watch Matt often especially sawing BID logs! and I saw him discussing the limitations of the availability of a frame big enough to handle the logs he wanted to cut BUT somehow i missed this episode! Glad I found it!!! Matt, you are truly one of a kind! Congrats!!!! Now: WHen are you going to motorize the carriage so you won't have to "hand-crank" it?

Thank you for the great summary and review. Your sawmill project is perhaps the most epic and ambitious DIY ever recorded on the utoob. I can't imagine the personal bravery you had to gin up to take it on, followed by the dedicated resolve and effort to actually complete it. Then afterward turning it into a functioning mill business to justify all that cost and effort has been great fun to watch too. And not even to mention your (two--count them TWO!) ancillary log-hauling trailer projects needed to make it all work. And all accomplished in the back yard of your own home. I watched the whole thing thinking the entire time, "His marriage cannot possibly survive this, and poor guy, he's married to an attorney. He's doomed!" You (and your wife) are absolutely unique in this world. Not one in a million couples could successfully undertake such a prodigious effort and risk. I was also constantly amazed at the patience you received from your close-living neighbors. Congratulations to BOTH of you on your great combined successful partnership! Live long and prosper.

I’ve been following and watching your vids for a few yrs and have always wondered how this was done. It’s inspiring to every person sitting at home thinking of all the projects (small or big) they have in mind around the house to just get up and do them. How long had you been metalworking prior to this? How much didn’t you know and had to teach yourself? Were you ever overwhelmed? As far as kids/family responsibilities, how much did this project affect that? It was probably your day job though at the time so perhaps not as much as a typical weekend diy by someone who has a separate job.
