Very informative video Russ. I clean my custom offset inside in much the same way. To clarify, after each cook is finished, I build the temp up to 300, brush down the grates thoroughly then blast with water hose the grates and tuning plates I then close the lid and let the smoker get a good steam clean and dry. I think it's important to do this inside after every cook. So thank you for showing us the care and attention our offset smokers deserve.

I liked seeing how you clean yours. I clean mine very similar. One thing I do though, is no matter what I'm cooking, after the grill gets up to temp, before I place any food on it, I oil my grates real well with olive oil. I've found it builds up like on cast iron and forms a very protective surface. And of course when I'm done I oil them again like how you do. Enjoyed the video. Thanks.👍🏻👍🏻

Good informative vid Rus. I pretty much clean my pits the same way but I don't use any chemical based products if I can avoid it. I just scrape the crud off with a dedicated paint scraper, hose it out, wipe it dry, then season again if need be. I also have 2 full sized galvanized steel trash cans that I use for all my ashes and coals. Since I heat with a wood stove here in Vermont I'm always emptying out my stove. I just fill them up then after they're cool ( a few days) I transfer them to the very back of my property and mix it into the topsoil. Thanks for sharing and cheers to you Rus!
@SmokyRibsBBQ
@SmokyRibsBBQ 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that is really all that is needed on any pit. Just keep the firebox clean and get the crud out to prevent build up. The only time I use a chemical cleaner is on very soiled stubborn stainless grates like on my LSG mini and Weber kettle. Never in the pit itself. Thanks for checking it out William, I appreciate!

Excellent video Rus, I really appreciate you finally posting this video! Everything seemed very thorough on it, but I have a question because in my case with a smoker (I have a portable one) and the only difference is the underside of my grill cover isn't with the flaky creosote but seems to be more of a layered, thick shiny lacquer-like residue which has been layering up over time but there is no crusty part of it. It seems to be more from the resin of the wood smoke. Is it worth bothering to clean that part ever!? I just think it would be more trouble than it's worth. The rest of my smoker inside does not have this shiny lacquer-like residue.

@SmokyRibsBBQ

Basically the same thing. They are both made from carbon steel and both are painted with the same paint. Biggest thing I can tell you about the mini, is to make sure you drain the water out of the water pan after every cook, dry it and spray it with more Pam. Rust can set in easily if you don't.
