Another great video Rus. The wheels look awesome. How much space is there between the tires and the firebox ? Do you think there could be any problems with the tires due to heat ? I'd definitely like to put some on my LSG 24x40.
@SmokyRibsBBQ
@SmokyRibsBBQ 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I appreciate it Joe! I just answered that same question a minute ago. The top of the tires are at the bottom of the firebox, with a good size air gap between them. I could lay my hands on the inside of the tires at anytime during yesterdays cook with no problem. Warm, but not hot like you think. The sun was actually heating them up more. The fire box radiates heat, but it also has good positive ventilation and heat naturally rises, so where the tires are positioned, there is no problem with that at all that I can see. I'm going to pin this comment, because I've answered it about 3 times so far lol ;)

That looked like a simple swap that is well worth the money. I ordered my LSG offset about a month ago and went with the off-road package from the start. We don't have much concrete out here in my part of the woods.

Rus- I love the look of the tires and wheels. I would suggest a couple things. Put a heat shield between the fire box and the tires to prevent melting the tires over time. If the grill sits in one place for a long time one side towards the sun, the tires will weather crack and ozone crack. In the tire business it’s called weather checking. Also, pneumatic tires lose 1 to 2 pounds of air every month. So, every 6 months you might want to check the air to keep it level. Go down to you local welding shop and get 4 V shaped wedges to lift the grill 1/4 to 1/2 inch off the ground and put under the axle close to the wheels. This will keep all the load off the tires to prevent flat spotting the tires. Love your channel.

You're going to love those wheels. I ordered a Blazin grills gridiron with the competition wheel kit similar to that. Just grab the handle and go even though it weighs over 400 pounds You really want to go ahead and put a jackstand or two under that don't trust that Jack You went the wrong way. You got a grill looks that good you got to make a couple trips around the block. Smoker envy.

Hey Rus, Nice upgrade... I have a Lone Star 24"x 48" single door off-set w/1/2" fire box. Had to bring in a backhoe to get the beast into my back yard. While your upgrading that cooker, you should take a look at getting the gas assist... It makes it so fast & easy to get the cooker up to temp!

Russ love the upgrade. One suggestion I would have is make sure that you have blocking under the grill just in case the grill moves off the jack. Never can be to safe. Go to work with a jack up hand and try to tell your friends what happened. I was just trying to pimp my grill.

Follow up questions (I'm sorry if you covered it and I missed it...but this got my wheels turning overnight.) but do you feel like you and a buddy could move it around your yard without the lawn mower, how long will those tires last in one spot (any worries of dry rot) and you do they have a way to lock them once they are in place. Like is there a "parking break" (lol) of some sort?

Say Russ ... What is the measurement of one tire to the other of the axle? I am limited to buying this setup. I have 36 inch clearance from my 12 ft tall shed and my house. As much as I like them. They may not work for me as that entrance way is the only way to my backyard.

That means you bought the wheels and had to build your own axels to fit the pit like LSG does. No doubt it would be cheaper if one took this route, but a lot more work. Your not going to find these anywhere that’s ready to bolt in the existing holes other than LSG

Damn Rus! I just ordered my 24X40 with the 1/2” fire box, and almost every available option! Now you got me thinking I need those new wheels to move my pit between my front and back yards! Is it hard to pull by hand on grass?

The LSG’z website advertises this package at $795. My food won’t care if I have caster wheels on but damn son! The cool factor is a major one!

It’s heavy, but it will roll good on grass but harder if the ground is soggy like mine is right now but hey I took the lazy option 👍

I keep mine in my garage, but if you can’t do that, then I would recommend covering it

Those tires look to be very close to the fire box. Is there a shield or fender needed to keep the heat away from the tires?

Hi Russ, Love your video's. Sorry if you've answered this but with the tires on there, is the height still where you like it as far as cooking? I also thought at 1st that they couldn't handle the heat of the fire box. Glad there's no problem there. Cook On Brother...

It’s actually the perfect height for cooking, but opening and closing the lid can be a challenge if your short like me but I’m still able to do it

@@SmokyRibsBBQ how tall are you? I'm 5'7" and am considering the wheels on the large insulated smoker. that thing is a beast to begin with and would probably put the racks above my head

Looks good... you think they would of gave you like a 4-6" just something bigger to pivot on. Curious to see how hot them tires get next to the fire box.

Checking the tires was one of the first things I did. There is a lot of air gap between them and the bottom of the fire box. Heat goes up as we all know, so it's no issue at all. The sun actually got them hotter than what the firebox did and either way I could hold my hands on them easily. A few more inches of pivot area would be a plus for a shorter radius turn, but no big deal, just takes more maneuvering to get it where you want it. Much better than what I did have being restricted to the front driveway and sidewalk into my front door and super stoked I now have them. Thanks for watching!
