✅Brake Cleaner
✅ A Strong Elbow💪🏾
Note: this process last for several months.(temporary fix) Just redo it if need to.

To all the experts and know it alls… duhhh WD-40 shouldn’t go on the part of the rotor that makes contact with the pads which none did in the video if you “WATCHED” the video🤦🏾‍♂️. Even if some did I used that “INVISIBLE” brake cleaner that yall didn’t see in the video to make sure it’s all good🤦🏾‍♂️

@@videos-hp4chput a light coat of wd40, not enough to splash onto the rotor. It’ll protect the rust, or do it the official way and tape up the rotor and give it some clear coat

@KJMack82 I'm shocked because I just noticed that all four of my rotors are rusty on the part the brake pad touches and I don't remember it ever being like that before. Any suggestions?

Only going to get rusty again soon after it gets wet.The WD-40 may stop this process for a little while, but this is just a very tempoary fix. Paint the formerly rusted area with POR-15 for a permanent fix.

that’s right. People think that WD-40 is a lubricant. It is not. It is a solvent. WD stands for water dispersal, the 40 indicates that it is the 40th formula they have tried. Actually, it should be called WD 41. Because they changed the formula recently to make it non-flammable. WD-40 used to be very good as a starting fluid.. they change the formula and now it is not flammable, so it should really be called WD 41

So it shouldn't be problem if some got to the caliper itself right? I have some light rust on the caliper, can I use wd-40 or should I spent some money on brake cleaner?

Thank you for this, have a van, it's been lying up and there is rusts on the brake discs so it failed the test I will do this and it will pass the test, I will probably replace them soon but this is a great quick fix to get it through the test Thank you very much

They most likely will rust again within a month. Pro tip after you do this you can get coating products specifically made for your breaks so rust won’t form(no it’s not paint please don’t spray paint your breaks)

The rust around the hub area is easy to rectify. I find it's the rust around the edge of the disc, and subsequently the dust shield at the back that makes it look so untidy

I live on a farm, I saw your video and my cousin and I started arguing over the rotors slipping from the WD40. I soaked all four rotors on our farm truck, we did it over and over, truck stopped on a dime every time, WD40 burned off fast.

@@oxyfee6486thank you! now what about the rust coming back like all the people in the comments are saying? I keep seeing two arguments one is that the brakes won’t EVER work again lol and two that the rust will just come back next week.

The rust will come back unless they are painted. It takes like a day without using the brakes for the rotors to start rusting lol

in 2 weeks it will be the same. use wire brush to take off the rust then use some silver paint that resists to high temperature. done, rust free disk brakes for life

Depends on a lot of factors, weather, where you live etc. I'd imagine in the salt belt or on the coast or close proximity to the coast you are right but there are areas where cars fair a lot better especially in a garage.

@@jimmi3376 Technically no not everyone's. DFW and around there very little wetness. You could drive a vehicle for years and never get it wet if garaged. Stand by my original comment but you have to take it to it's heart. A lot of factors. Some places it takes much longer for that to occur, which is why I have wanted to move for a very long time although I'm not in the worst spot it's too cold for me here.

It looks nice. Really nice. But... why? 😅 In another 3~4 weeks, rust will develop again on that same area; it's not a wear surface. If going to clean the rust off, might as well have first masked the rust line (so can still see where the transition is after de-rusting), And then PAINT the area that just got clean. Paint will keep new rust from forming. Not sure how well the paint will hold up though. Under hard braking, that rotor gets VERY hot...

I do this a couple days before my yearly inspection is due (PA) so it looks all nice and shinny for the mechanic so it doesn't fail due to rust. Seems to work...

@@KJMack82 rust always tends to come back eventually, i use fluid film on my Underbody but that's very oily, probably not great near brakes. I wonder if the clear coat will hold up with the heating and cooling of the disc's though.

No need for that. It’s for the brake pads to make contact to stop the car.wouldn’t recommend it.

It’s fine as long as you use a brake cleaner/degreaser. It’s going to clean it up anyway. I mean the rotors are literally shipped with antitrust OIL. So it’s fine.

Sorry, but, who’s got time to do this? Are these stock rotors? If not why didn’t you purchase esoteric coated rotors? They’re only about $5 more each rotor and they’re pre-coated everywhere but the pad surfaces and they don’t get so rusty. Jim

It’s not on the rotor goofball watch the video… it’s clearly the center part.. I know it shouldnt be on the part that makes contact with the pads🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️ if some did get on there it was cleaned with brake cleaner.

You have to move to a different climate etc. there are several solutions to taking your car out of the elements as well. It's not easy in some locations for sure.
