The modern habit of shopping is more pernicious than we realize. Here’s how I got out of it..

Love your inspiration. Took me about a hundred summers (exaggeration) to accept that my go to is a black tee shirt dress. Feel great in them. Can dress up or down with a necklace or shoes. Is my closet in the summer made up of 7 black tee shirt dresses? Yes, yes it is. Do I wear them everyday?? Yes, yes I do. 😂 I never feel self conscience. I am always comfortable. I always feel confident that I look good. BUT…. Was the shopping habit of a million styles and colors a drain? YES!!! I literally had BINS of beautiful clothing that was not me in the garage. Because I just kept pulling my black tee shirt dresses. It’s a hamster wheel. Keep making your content!! It’s so nice to have a tribe.

As a European, starting off your adult life with student debt, is mind boggling. I imagine it makes you feel like you’re already behind on finances, even before you’ve started. And I think it normalizes the idea of being in debt, which to me isn’t normal at all. Back on topic though: I hate shopping, but still loved this video 💕

Yes the American school system is insane. My tuition was $120,000 and I graduated back in 2006, so I can’t even imagine what it is now. It makes it so hard for young people to progress. I had a good Swiss friend who went to a top school in Zurich and her tuition was just $5000 euros a year 🙄🙄🙄 …glad you enjoyed the video 😉

My journey started six months ago as I increasingly felt uncomfortable in my home. I felt the need to move, so I could have more space. It was taking a while so I decided to start sorting through my stuff in preparation. So much stuff was discarded, it was sickening… That really made me understand how wasteful the acquisition of useless things is. I’m still in the same apartment, but with so much less stuff and actually I have more than enough space.
@Exploravore
@Exploravore 5 ай бұрын
That is awesome! So glad you had that awakening. Not sure where you are but here in America it is definitely the standard of “success” to buy a bigger home and then just fill it with things. When you own less a small space can feel like more than enough 💜

I am so enjoying your videos! I really appreciate how authentic you are, and your take on things is often unique and different. Even when the topic is not relevant to me (such as the one on breaking your coffee habit), I'm still interested in hearing what you have to say about it. I am just about to let go of my "finding my style" phase. I bought a bunch of clothes, mainly secondhand, and I am ready to let go of everything that was a fail or is not me anymore. Funny enough I returned to clothes I always used to wear :D I guess I just had a weird phase of reinventing myself.. Guess I am reinventing myself in another way and not through clothing.

15:15 Wow, i dont know how people could criticise your outfit. You look beautiful in it. You are a beautiful soul inside and out. I am a student of various religions including buddhism and christianity. There is a statement in the new testament that says, "Godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and it is certain we shall carry nothing out, but having food and covering we shall be therewith content." I have asked many people who profess to be christians if they would be content with just food and covering. I havent gotten a "yes" from any of them. It seems too extreme to them. I have been striving to get to this state of being, but you are the only one I know who seems to be actually there.

People can think whatever they choose about how I dress- it’s their right to have their own opinions. I’m just not going to care lol. Thank you for those kind words. I don’t profess to be in any kind of “state” above anyone else- I’m just living my truth 🌻

Have you heard of Dr Bill Reese? He is a retired environmental scientist and professor at a Canadian university. He has several interviews on you tube. He asserts that the earth is already in a state of environmental overshoot. We have already exceeded the carrying capacity of the planet because of our excessive pursuit of "stuff" It is well worth listening to.

Great points! At some point in 2022, I fell prey to buying a pretty vintage dress for special events -- that never happened! I don't own much clothing, so this dress is extremely visible hanging in my closet -- taunting me. LOL! Recently I have started selling nostalgic clothing items and accessories to vintage and resale shops. While my husband and I are fairly minimal, I am ready to declutter to the essentials and items that bring me great joy.

I also find that I spend less when I'm making money! Currently a student again, so for a while I wasn't making money, but then I got a part-time job and became more frugal. A simplistic explanation is that now I see money as hours spent at work, but it also has another element to it... I think that being able to make money, being able to hold down a job, gives me a sense of agency over my life and I want to save it.

Much like you described in your story I am 31 and basically trying to lead myself down a better and more fulfilling path. Preferably, one where I'm not spending so much money. Lol. It feels nice. 😊

Welcome to the family here! I’m planning a video dedicate to the no f*cks, but the short answer is, as long as you are paying your own way, taking care of yourself, and trying to be a good person/the best version of yourself, no one has any hold on you and their opinions have no weight. It’s YOUR life ;)

I wish everyone could watch this video. It was so informative and honest. It was great how you spoke about the psychological aspect of shopping (and its environment impact). I have also been on my minimalist journey after a clothes (and maybe everything else addiction) and you’ve really inspired me to cut down even more. It’s been slow progress for me, but I might be nearing the light at the end of the tunnel. Hey! I am finding your videos really helpful. They are packed with so much goodness and your lifestyle really inspires me. Can I ask how you got rid of your stuff? I too have a lot of stuff and there are somethings I find hard to let go because I have spent money on it. Even though I have stopped buying more stuff, I feel the urge to let go even more but to my family, it's wasteful to declutter and there are a few things I might need in the future. I am also finding it hard to find a personal style due to the amount of stuff I have, which is why your content & your ideas inspire me. Thank you!
