This is great! I’ve been homeschooling for awhile...biggest challenge I find is getting chores done and keeping the house tidy. How do you break them down and make sure they get them done well. Hard to figure out how to get them to clean up after themselves but also do chores. Thank you 😊

Oh one more thing sorry! How do you keep the kids motivated to finish the chores and not feel like we just go from chores to school to lunch to the next project etc...do you schedule in breaks? Thanks 😁

This might sound/be ridiculous, but I would really love to hear you talk about how you handle criticism as a homeschooling mother. I don’t have a super supportive crowd around me, however I know in my heart that I need to educate my kids at home. I have a hard time dealing with the backlash, subtle jabs and negativity. I’ve only just started home schooling this past year so maybe my skin will thicken as the years go on, but I am definitely letting it get to me as of now and I hate the pressure it’s putting on me.

I know you didn't ask me but I thought this might help. Homeschooling questions usually fall into 2 camps for me. 1. Some people ask you about homeschooling because they are genuinely interested in homeschooling and don't know where to start. They want assurance and information. To these people I answer that I was scared but it's like riding a bike. You just keep trying everyday, you'll get it. Then I'll usually steer them toward KZfaq videos (like Grace and Grit!), or other homeschooling websites I've used. 2. The second camp of people who ask me about homeschooling, do so because they want to share their negative and usually uneducated opinion about homeschooling. I just tell them I am a former teacher (because I am). It's the only thing that shuts them up. The important thing to figure out is what they want. If they truly just want to gather info feel free to help. If they just want to nitpick your choices, be assertive. Why do you homeschool? "Because I can!" "Because God has led me to." "It's a personal choice I've made and it's not up for debate." Then change the subject. Don't let anyone (strangers or family) bully you about it. I'm not saying you're being bullied, I just know that I was....alot....and I wanted to help. If this isn't helpful please let me know and I'll delete it. God bless.

Speaking from experience... you’ll never be good enough for some. At first, I got a lot of negativity from family when we chose to homeschool about 6 years ago. However, I’ve always said “I appreciate your opinion but this is what works for us right now” or something along those lines. Keep doing what is best for your kiddo(s)! At this point, most people have come around. Much love to you ❤️

I sent my mom a bunch of YT videos. You could print out or send an article or two explaining how research proves the success homeschooling can bring. Homeschooling can be tailored to the individual. A teacher might ignore your child in order to help others, but you can focus on your child with loving care.

Veteran homeschooler here as well, same amount of years. But, only this past year, did I change my homeschool curriculum and routine to better fit our family and not appease to all of the naysayers in my life. Finally schooling to build relationships and memories with my people, not to prove how smart they will be bc of homeschooling. Thank you for all of the amazing product recommendations to have the homeschool I always wanted!!

Could you do a “things I wish I knew when my kids were younger” or “things I wish I would have done differently when my kids were younger”? I’ve been reading Seasons of a Mother’s Heart by Sally Clarkson and it’s been getting me thinking. My kiddos are 5 and 2 and we start homeschool kindergarten in the fall. Hi Ashlee, I'm also a veteran homeschooler, although every year it seems like I'm a new beginner. I'm wondering how you get your kids to actually do what they are supposed to do. Such as do you use incentives, rewards, punishment? Please help. Your kids are so well behaved. Mine are not.

Have you struggled at all with socialization? I had all these plans to go to group playtimes, libraries, etc. Then covid happened. We recently started going to church again which helps somewhat. It is almost like my 5yo and 6yo seem to only know how to play with each other. Playing with other kids is such a challenge right now. I feel like I've focused so much on academia and let socialization go by the wayside. I'm not sure where to start....

I would love to know what your record keeping is like. This is my first year coming to an end with my two kids, 3&4th grade. I have a 3 inch binder that I keep the majority of their loose worksheets in but then we also have workbooks for science and TGATB Language Arts workbooks. Do you keep all of these items? What do you do at the end of each year? Do you have one master binder that you keep correspondence with your district, a tab for each child and Q1-4 or one binder for each child? In NYS our regulations are one of the most strict so it likely may not be the same but I’d love to know how you do your Quarterlies and wrap the school year up. Thank you for sharing with us!

We just started homeschooling last year. I’m not super organized but we flow thru pretty Good. I do have a large white board that I list what we need to accomplish each day. I decided on that by listing how often we need to cover each subject. We homeschool July to the next June and take off when needed. Like you we keep plugging along and don’t plan each week for our lessons. We started TGTB this year and so far we love it! I’m still trying to decide on Math though. It’s not my strong suit! Thanks for your videos. They are very inspiring to this old Nana that homeschools!❤️

Hi! First thank you so much for doing this series! I am so excited! You mentioned that you do the next lesson the next day. What do you do when the lesson is a very long one or you can just tell its too much to finish? Do you just finish it the next day? Or what if someone is sick for several days; how do you catch them up? Do you do a lesson in each category each and every day? Bible, LA, Reading, Math, Handwriting, and Spelling? Then only two days a week for Science and History? How do you have time to add in any unit studies on a certain topic or a special project or craft that may be separate from the curriculum lessons? I feel like after I get through all of my homeschool items I am left with no time to do fun things or extra things with the kids. Thank you!!

Your confident, fierce and your game face is on-and I love this, but in quiet moments does it hit you huge that Mamas everywhere are being empowered and growing increasingly confident by your effort in getting this knowledge out and by that your keeping kids out of a indoctrinated system bc moms are not giving up and for the first time maybe being introduced to Christian curriculum bc you inspire them with your family... And your coming up with ways to get the answers faster, easier. God is working double time thru you-and dang your on a roll. Don't minimize this-just saying. 🇺🇸😜💯'Merica

I love this series! - I have younger kids, so I’m trying to understand at what age homeschooling can be done more independently? Or am I always sitting with them teaching everything? I just found teaching textbooks and am excited my 7 year old can do that on his own and enjoy. - Also, really curious about sports. I’m considering homeschooling next year to possibly beyond. Are your kids involved with public school sports or other select teams? I’m nervous about my kids feeling confident and fitting in if they play public school sports. Curious how you navigate all of that. Thanks!

I already commented once but, I had one more thought. I'm a little worried about my kiddos adjusting. They are 14 and 11, starting highschool and middle school next year. They are use to how a day in public school goes. They have not thrived with virtual learning at home and I'm worried about homeschooling this late in the game even though I feel like it may be our only option with the mask requirements on their district. Any thoughts on this is appreciated!

How late is to late to buy curriculum? We are waiting to hear if my kids school will be going mask free or not next year. They won't be making that decision until mid summer. :/ If they are required, then we will be homeschooling. They have done virtual learning this year and it hasn't been the best. :/ (My kiddos are 14 and 11, btw) I would also like to know what you do with subjects that your not proficient in. My math skills are HORRIBLE!

Be sure to decide what curriculum you want to use and when you plan to start schooling. I would allow about a month especially during July or August for shipping and handling time. Some curriculum have free lessons available for download. This could fill in up to three weeks depending on the company. Or you could use something like Easy Peasy All in One Homeschool which is all free online until your curriculum arrives.

@@freelandtr Thank you for the information.. A friend of mine just uses Bob Jones or Abeka but, there are so many choices now, it makes it very overwhelming to choose.

I second deciding now when you want to start and which curriculum you want to use. Even with COVID, I was able to get all of my curriculum pretty quickly. Just remember that you can do more work in some subjects while waiting for your other materials to show up, and then adjust your lessons accordingly once you have all materials.

For math, it sounds like you need curriculum that provides support. We like Math U See, some people love Teaching Textbooks, and I just heard that Shermann (sp?) is really good.

How would you make this work with a toddler and newborn? I homeschool my 8 and 6 year old, but I have a 2 year old and a baby due in December. Trying to figure out how to keep my little "distraction" occupied so my 8 & 6 year old have my attention

Hi Ashlee! I’ve been really finding your planning videos SO helpful! Thank you! Question: I’m headed into using TGATB for all subjects for my three kiddies in July, and am working on crunching the numbers to get a school-year calendar lined up for 2022-2023. With TGATB only having 120 lessons for math/LA, how do you work that into your 36 weeks? We have a requirement of 180 days here in California, so I’m stumped at how others make that work with curriculum they doesn’t have 180, or even at least 144 lessons (if schooling 4-days). I may be overthinking this 😂

Hey! So we use other materials that carry us through our 180 days. So if we finish la then we use a different book or activity to cover that subject if i want to. Hope that helps!

@@GraceandGrit okay, this so encourages me! Thank you, Ashlee! Do you have a specific video that touches on those extras or would you kindly point me to some of the things you’ve found to be great add-ons? We’ll have a preschooler (which I’m not worried about adding things on her lessons), a 1st grader (level k) and a 5th grader (level 4). Thanks for all you do sharing your homeschool journey!

Hello Miss Ashlee. I am a mother of 7, ages ranging from 15 to 3. I pulled my 3 oldest out of the public school system about 4 years ago. I have been trying and failing at homeschooling them. My kids have no desire to homeschool or return to a classroom setting. They have fought me every step of the way and are falling way behind academically. I was wondering if you have any advice for moms in my situation. I’d actually appreciate some input from your kids- what they think about homeschooling. Maybe if my kids heard something from other successful homeschooled kids, they might come around a bit. Please pray for me.

Love your videos. I’m homeschooling my daughter for high school, and our state requires a full year of American History. It doesn’t look like The Good and The Beautiful has that as an option. Is that correct?

How do you choose where to start with Bible study? I was raised in the church since I was 2, but it’s almost like it was background noise. I want our kids to have a solid biblical foundation at home, as well as at church. I don’t want to be a home that just does church on Sunday, with prayers at the occasional meal and at bedtime😜
