Girl I needed this today. I just turned 45 and was so unhappy in where my career was going. I prayed and prayed about it and ran across some PCT programs and applied. I felt if I got a job as a PCT then maybe God was telling me this is a new chapter and a beginning of a new life, I guess. I just got an offer to be a PCT at one of my local hospitals and I'm starting to look into nursing schools. Disheartening that it's taken me to find all this at 45, but had I not gone through everything I have been through in my life, it wouldn't have set me up for this new chapter. Unfortunately I'm not getting the support I had hoped for in all this either. But I'm determined to make this change and start new. I feel God is leading me to where I need to be going now. This is literally me! I don’t talk about a lot things on my mind because there ARE always going to be people to put you down. Most times, they aren’t even trying to achieve half of what your trying to do in life. I’ve become ok with not talking about a lot with others because they will always pray on your down falls. This was absolutely spot on for what I'm dealing with right now and what I needed to hear. I am about to apply to a DNP program and have been doubting myself. One friend who is also doing this with me doesn't like that I won't tell anyone about it at our job but I explained to her that I don't want to hear their negative comments because I know that they will have them. Does this apply to my case? My boss was upset I had signed up for a one-person shift. I'll admit, I am much better with a helping hand and guide, and that I'm kind of a slow learner, but come on, that's no excuse for being insensitive. One of our student leader's responsibilities is organizing who works which shifts on the schedule, and my boss scolded him for not noticing I had signed up for a one-person shift. When she asked him if she thought I could do the shift, I answered for him with a firm "yes," because I felt belittled by her. She said she didn't think so, was all "I've told you not to sign up for shifts by yourself, I've been very clear about that, I don't know how much clearer I can get for you to listen" (something like, that, so I'm not perfectly quoting her), and she told me I need someone there to give me instructions and guide me. I'm mad at myself for not standing up to her. She intimidates me when she's in a bad mood, but still, at the very least, I should've told her "my family always taught me to be self-confident and believe in my abilities," to challenge her to coldly disagree with that. And that's just it. Does my case apply to the video's message? Is this where I ignore my boss's negative thoughts about my skills, or do I just accept them as true for the greater good at work, since she's a high-ranking manager who ✌"knows"✌ what she's talking about? What do you guys think? Undiscovered potential or harsh reality?
