In this video I tell you the story of how I financed my tiny house build. I won't pretend to know all the options for financing your own build but perhaps my story can help if you are dreaming of building your own tiny house on wheels and not sure where to look for financing.

Wow, you went through so much. I'm very lucky that my very small house was built in 1958 on a slab foundation. It was cheap by housing standards, but out in the boonies. I took the bus out to see it, liked what I saw and said, "I'll take it." Unfortunately, one day before possession, there was a fire. Not too much damage, but it took four months, not the promised six weeks to repair. The drapes, including the curtain over the large pantry, disappeared because of smoke. I would have just washed them. The wonderful mural got peeled off when the painters painted everything, including the kitchen cupboard hinges, a thick white. Still, it's mine. I just have to make it my home. Jon in rural BC, Canada

I'm in BC and we're in the midst of an extreme housing crisis. I just recently sold my condo and tried to get a partial loan to purchase a manufactured home. Neither I nor my Mortgage Broker could get a loan in any financial institution. I had to let that dream go and have just purchased an RV to live in because I could purchase that in full. All this in the midst of this housing crisis. Banks and Governments need to figure this out. As my son and grandchildren grow up and are ready for home ownership there simply won't be enough conventional homes and there has got to be the financial infrastructure in place to help their generation! Thanks for sharing your experience!

Hello! Your videos are sooo informative to me. I am making a list of so many good ideas you have from beginning to end. I live in Santa Clarita, Cal. I want a tiny so much, but am not able to find anyone to help me. And, I unfortunately need to stay in the area. As you probably know, L.A. is over the top in living expenses. And as I’ve said all along, building is easy, but, it’s a place to park it that’s the huge challenge. I will keep up my search. Anyway, again, thank you, and you are very blessed. Linda

Great info. Thanks for sharing. Have worked in the banking industry so understand the banks reluctance. Banks have no loyalty towards their long term customers unlike it was in the past. Happy I'm now retired ...I love your tiny home...Take care & stay safe. ❤️

Thanks for the info! I hope you moved your accounts out of the "long time" bank who refused to give you a loan, although it appears that you accept that they were not necessarily being unreasonable with their requirements. Great advice to just go with a lender familiar with financing "tiny houses." In the end, it all worked out for you!

WOW! Thanks so much for information and Video! You are about the only one I have run across to address the financing part of this! I would love to have a tiny home, as it may be the ONLY choice for seniors, and young people starting out. Great info. We are kindred spirits. I am a single mom but my daughter and 3 grandchildren all live with me. I have to get them out of my house before I can sell. Oh and I too have curly hair and hated it as a child but like it now. I am 4 years from retirement and will have to sell my townhouse to buy a tiny house. Not sure where I want to live though so have to wait. I love Florida but know that different counties have different zoning laws and ur tiny has to fit those laws so must decide on a location and then find a builder. Thanks again. I hope you took your banking business elsewhere after all that. I did that years ago after a 30 year relationship with CIBC and good credit. They wanted me to have my spouse co sign the loan for a new car. NOPE. I had a good paying career and always paid my bills on time including credit cards.
