I would love to know i am not alone with problems like this. please share your horror stories with Paypal disputes and charge back problems. i would love to know if someone managed a recourse against Paypal or the credit card companies.

The 'buyer' is a lowlife. Just a thief. They think they're being clever but everything in life comes back around and they'll always know what a loser they truly are. This is fraud, obtaining goods through deception, so best to raise it to the police. You could even take it to the small claims court. I'm glad you raised it because PayPal are hoping sellers just accept it and move on. This is Kieran by the way, we spoke briefly at the boot sale earlier!

@@AntiquesArena I didn't realise that was an option! I just started my own website, only have Stripe rather than PayPal. I can't say if they're any better as it's early days. Will certainly look into stopping credit cards too, not worth the hassle.

So sorry to hear this, Walter. It's wrong on every level. I think the fact that the buyer is overseas too gave them more confidence that they could get away with this; they know you can't touch them. Plus having the cheek to ask for faster shipping. They had the luxury of paying for this as they already planned the chargeback when they ordered. Would Stripe be a better payment processor on your website?

Chargeback scams even happen with big companies. When I worked for the Postal Service, twice there were chargeback requests. The PO keeps card receipts for at least 12 months, to protect from this. I had to locate the receipt for the transaction, and send it to the district office. One of the receipts even had the customers Signature on it. So the customers lost both cases. However it just goes to show you that scammers try everything possible.

thank you very much for your comments. i understand that there are scams and scammers, but lets be honest, credit card companies now send texts to confirm who is making a payment, in addition teh item was sent to the card holders address. this is negligence on behalf of the credit card company and paypal were just as bad refusing to deal with it. if a credit card company can not make sure their cards are being used honestly then lets be honest they should front the loss or shouldnt even be alloud to trade cos they incompetence just cost me £140

I had a similar issue through Ebay. However Ebay had me covered, so I didnt lose anything.

This isn't PayPal being difficult. It's a chargeback by the credit card company. That's the bottom line. The sad thing is small sellers like us have to factor in the occasional fraud...big business and small all have to factor this in... Same as with shoplifters in big stores etc...the losses are factored into the prices the rest of us ultimately pay

Thank you for your comment. I agree it’s something we have no choice but to accept. But the upshot is. These banks should be liable to ensure their cards are used properly and safe or they should take the hit. And as for PayPal they were supposed to fight for me. According to PayPal if you provide proof of delivery as I did you are supposed to win. If I had any other choice they would be gone

How can you defend yourself against such fraud if they dont give you any other details just "charge back unauthorised purchase" and they dont have an appeal procedure it is a kangaroo court. In theory a seller could lose massive ammounts from this fraud not to forget the fees but you didnt mention also lose of the cost price of the item that can be as much as 50% for some sellers + you lose the item so the future earnings of the £100 is also lost.

Thank you very much for your comment. tbh i was so angry they took not only the full payment back but charged me for their credit card and a paypal charge, i had £40 in charges on the refund. and it was a full kangaroo court, they didnt want to know, as far as paypal were concirned it was case closed move on. hense making this film to show people the risks we are taking

I sold an item of $1,000 on ebay overseas. I googled his address to see his house. I asked him to send me a picture of himself at the house. He understood my concern and he did so.

Thank you so much for your comment. It’s crazy we have to go to that measure. PayPal made me jump through hoops to prove who I was and my address and tax code etc. you would think if they give you an address it’s safe to ship

@@AntiquesArena Yes, definitely they should have. Even so, it doesn't hurt to search the name and address with the word "scam" to see if anything pops up. You are not obligated to sell to everyone nor every country. And if in doubt, cancel the order.

The person who did the chargeback, likely has run this scheme many times before. I doubt you were their first scam victim.

for overseas customers request a livechat to confirm purchase and record it, Then you have a vid of Mr Blogs accepting the purchase, basically it's irrefutable 2 factor seller authentication but done by you.

Thank you for your comment. While I think your idea is good. There is no way of even knowing if a credit card company would accept it. And would a customer even do it when someone else will probs sell the item on eBay hassle free. Eaiser not to take credit card any more

@@AntiquesArena any 2 factor authentication you use is to your benefit as you can submit that in your defence eg, mobile text confirmation, obviously a video is best, honest folk don't mind taking an extra step to thwart scammers and if they want the item they will have an extra 2 mins. If you have a name and address and postage confirmation you already have enough to call his local cop shop and report him for theft, who knows maybe they are looking for a reason to kick his door in.

Don't accept Credit cards, Debit cards or Paypal only as they don't have this problem

Offer a small discount for payments by bank transfer,it’s not a solution but it will give PayPal less business.

Updated my reply action fraud police online If you report there they'll give you a reference number phone PayPal with that number and demand a refund don't cow down It'll also go on thier permanent record with the credit card company and affect thier credit rating

@@katiehale4411 hi Katie thank you for your comment. There are other online companies like PayPal. But they don’t hold the same trust. PayPal only have this level of trust cos it’s at the expense of the seller. Tell you what. If we all said no more they would soon worry with no income
