The problem with car boot sales is that big corporations don’t get a cut. The banks don’t get a cut, eBay doesn’t get a cut, Amazon doesn’t get a cut, the tax man doesn’t get a cut.

I've been to that Denham boot sale, and the sheer number of sellers of power tools is unbelievable. Not just a few tools, but these sellers have hundreds. Must be stolen - not druggies, but organised theft.
@AntiquesArena
@AntiquesArena Ай бұрын
Thank you for your comment. i looked at the film of Denham bootsale that this mob has shared. and the tools in the film yes, hundreds of them were old and very worn. not the expensive loved new tools people are reporting are stollen. if you watched my film you would have seen that there are auctions where you can buy job lots of 50 and 100 pieces in a single go. someone having lots does not mean they are stollen. that is just the narrative this mob are spinning. some very well maybe but its the overall blanket accusation is disgusting in my opinion.
@UnCoolDad
@UnCoolDad Ай бұрын
@@AntiquesArena Thanks for the response. It could well be that these are old warn out tools from auctions - but they could equally be a mixing in stolen tools into the fray too as a cover. Clearly the police should be doing their job here - but they are busy doing other things like speaking to people who hurt other peoples feelings on social media 😁 Perhaps the boot sale proprietors themselves uncovered some stolen property, or the police did and gave them a stern word about the 'duty of care' they have to making sure that stolen goods are not sold at their boot sales. They may well have thought that this is not worth the agro and decided to just ban them. This has happened before - say 20 years ago when people were selling pirate DVD's and CD's. Many boot sales banned the sale of these items (at least the people who were just selling those items, not necessarily householders selling the odd item with their other bric-a-brac).
@AntiquesArena
@AntiquesArena Ай бұрын
@@UnCoolDad again I do appreciate your opinion. There may be the odd stollen item in a huge pile. Knowingly or un knowing But you can’t just assume because they have so many they are dishonest. That’s my whole argument here. Clearly the tools in the film wernt the thousands of pounds worth people are saying are stollen. They were too old. They have blamed a market car boot sale as an easy target As you say the police should do their jobs. It’s not down the the organisers to control it. As best they can yes but it’s not down to them to inspect ever tool. If it’s such a problem. Two officers could walk across once a week and apprehend them and all their stock in one go. They don’t cos they know most likely the seller has an auction receipt for them.
@UnCoolDad
@UnCoolDad Ай бұрын
@@AntiquesArena I hear what you are saying - but this isn't a government conspiracy. It is the boot sale proprietors themselves who have taken this decision, not the police. Clearly they don't want the aggravation of dealing with this "issue" and any potential (imagined or not) risk to their business. If people don't like it, they can stop going to those businesses - don't give them your money and vote with your wallet.

Interesting video! Thanks for sharing this, Walter. I completely understand the frustration of those who have had their tools stolen. It's a terrible situation. It's unfortunate that victims are targeting boot sales instead of focusing their efforts on holding politicians and police accountable for preventing these thefts in the first place. You’ve made a great point that most stolen tools are likely going abroad or being sold on the black market. It would be pretty foolish for thieves to risk selling stolen items openly at boot sales. These are worrying times. You're right that today it's power tools, and tomorrow it could be something else. I hope people wake up and go after the root cause, rather than boot sale sellers who are probably innocent. Cheers, Kieran.

Well Said Walter. I'm a tradesman and I sympathise with other trades people who have had their tools stolen. To steal someones tools is the lowest form of theft and theft is bad enough people think that because they are insured it is a victimless crime. The truth is that you are taking away that persons ability to work and pay their bills put food on the table and clothes on their families backs. I think that if you ban tools from carboots it will start a black market culture which will be the catalist for further criminal Activity.

Another thought, its the car boot organiser that make the most money out of these events in cash , calculted how much a car boot like Cheddar makes based on punters paying to get in and price for stall holders and they are the biggest winners. The sellers are genuinely great people, and not doing it illegally, you are correct in that as a regular seller you get to know who's who very quickly.

Ridiculous isn't it! I think there's some jobs worth out there, I love a car boot, at the end of the day it's buyer beware, and it's impossible to control without questioning everything ever sold at a car boot , I noticed the auction house near me still sells tonnes of power tools that I would question origin, but then people buy them up in bulk and sell on at the car boot . Loads of restrictions on bootsales that are run by the concils and markets most wont allow you to sell new products or items that are boxed Some have massive lists an arms length long again enforced by conciles While i agree the tools stolen is a big problem however most dealers know these tools are stolen to order primary they arent being stolen to be sold at bootsale those days are long gone Most people selling tools especially power tools are just dealers trying to unload brorken faulty junk, or inexpensive goods which is why most dealers dont even bother buying from them. Also the climate activests dont give a toss especially since most companies make the tools these days not repairsble which is another huge problem in the industry Not to mention that some stores have chips in the tools that means if you steal them from the stores they cant even operate hence why theft of tools is gradually coming down However one of the biggiest issue on stolen gear right now on bootsales is biycles, scooters and in england its mobility scooters

If "we /society" really wanted " them " tracked down it could be done, I do agree with some of your argument and feel the current government or people in power want corporations rather than small /medium businesses or solo traders to prosper. There will always be people at either end of society who take advantage of the average person trying to make an honest living just the ones at the bottom are called criminals and the ones at the top get lauded as good business people 😉

I’m not sure how I feel about this, I don’t think there should be a blanket ban on things, but if a car boot decides it doesn’t want people selling something we have to abide by their rules or go elsewhere, as you know Geligaer has its own minor restrictions by banning the sale of new items, my wife has new jeans with tags she’s never worn so I will have to take those elsewhere.As for cashless society personally as a bloke well into his sixties I’m happy not to use money, the only time being, car boots, flea markets, antique fairs etc. Any note money I make at these venues gets paid in the bank via the machine in the bank. I have friends who say they can’t remember the last time they used money! My children never carry money, nor my friends children, even my local pub doesn’t take cash payments for food or drinks, seems like everybody likes that way. Like I said I’m not sure how I feel about the car boot thing, but for an old bloke like me cashless is the way forward, but not for everyone.

Hi Steve. thank you for your comment as always mate. with Gelligear, the council wouldnt give them the market licence so they are not legally permitted to sell new items there. you can have the odd new thing but cant have a stall full of new. and my fear isnt if a car boot sale wants to ban something, this mob is taking it to parliament with a petition to blanket ban them.

I recently bought a card reader for selling but unfortunately there is no signal at the car boot I use , and the speed and distraction of people steeling is a massive issue so I cannot be distracted , it worked at a recent flea market, the punters were a bit more ready to spend , and I did get sales I would not have got without it. The beauty of cash is I get back the cash I put into things and it's readily taken , cards can be stolen, scanned too.

@@meganhulatt6779 not sure if you saw my last two films. I have just lost 400 pounds on charge back scams on cards. I would do can only if I could. But in todays world we have no choice x

@@AntiquesArena yes completely , I saw your film about the charge backs, I agree entirely with everything said, I have some more valuable items that may sell better if I have a card reader but actually doesn't stop someone from then retracting their payments etc , I think it's a damn shame

@@meganhulatt6779 thank you for getting back to me. I think it’s harder for them if they use the card with a reader. Cos they only way then would to say it’s been stollen. I have a card reader but don’t take it any more but that’s cos all my good items go online x

If someone stole your resale bulion youd cry mate. Then youd have to scour the boots to find it. Find receipts from all the lil carboit sales yoi boight it from. And charity shops to prove to the police its yours. Then wait a couple.hours while the suspected theif leaves and your questioned like the criminal before they do anything. 😅 yeh welcome to a broken tradespersons life. Stop being preceous pick a diffrent fight that doesnt involve the people that built this country, your house, and next time your roof falls in i hope the builder hasnt had his van destroyed the night before

Actually, he said stop being precious, PICK a different fight! It doesn't surprise me that you can't see what's blatantly obvious right in front of you. If the sellers of these power tools have proof of purchase then there is no issue.

@@AntiquesArena I also suffer from dyslexia so had to check myself lol however man to man I'm not sure whether you're doing this video to get traction or draw attention but you're going to be fighting a losing battle as a trade person believe me I'm totally with you on the basis of using cash🤣🤣 but you've got to seriously ask yourself if saying that people not getting arrested means they haven't done any wrong is a sensible statement youve really got to think twice bud

@@pointyplumber I actually expect this to cost me a following as I am alienate a lot of trades people. We just lost another car boot sale this week. Thing is you can say people just because they haven’t been arrested doesn’t mean they are not dodgy. In this country we used to be innocent until proven guilty. What you don’t get. The reason I am doing this is their messing with my livelihood now for something I genuinely don’t believe will be affected by a blanket ban on car boot sales. I have done tons of research on this subject this week ready for the pod cast. And the figures are not there. No one is selling 400 pound drills at a boot sale more restrictions on boot sales is genuinely another step to the end of my business leave them alone. That’s why I am doing this. I have a voice and a following so will spread this. Look at it this way. My channel has had 2.5 million views. If people actually agree with you they are going to make their own minds up and if they do agree. Look at the awareness I have generated. Either way I either have a valid argument or I get awareness. Isn’t that a good thing either way ?
