I made this video because I am so tired of seeing all these hair challenge videos, especially ones that are bad for your health, when there are easier and healthier ways to get your hair to grow faster and retain more length.
I am a licensed cosmetologist and cosmetology instructor, so I understand much more about the science, practice, and makeup of hair, and I want to share that information with you. It is my prayer that you find this information to be valuable and that you see the amazing results with implementing these simple haircare steps in your regimen. I'm not here to sell you anything, this video is not sponsored, and all views are my own.

Grow Hair fast: 1. Low Heat or No Heat. 2. Stretch out perm retouches. Overlap chemicals cause breakage. 3. Avoid lighter color hair dyes. They are more damaging. 4. Invest in quality shampoo and conditioner. This increases moisture balance. Number one cause of breakage is dry hair. 5. Let Conditoner sit in 3-5 minutes. 6. Deep conditioning- sit under dryer. It pushes it deep into the hair. Do once a month. 7. Keep hair hydrated. Drink water. 8. Eat a healthy vitamin-rich diet. 9. Use a plant-based vitamin. 10. Do a scalp massage. It increases blood flow to the scalp. Helps it grow. Use the meat part of your finger, not the nails. 11. Use a moisturizing leave-in or detangler. 12. Use a soft brush - buy the denman brush that massages the scalp and is gentle on our hair. 13. Hair balls or frizzy ends means you need a trim. 14. Stay away from products that contain alcohol. It dries out the hair. Limit its use! 15. Never apply heat on dirty hair. You are baking dirt into your hair and causes build up. 16. Sleep on Satin - bonnet or pillow. Stack hair on top of head and cover to help keep the style. You are welcome!!! 😊

Especially about trimming! I haven't had my hair trimmed in YEARS for fear that they'll insist on CUTTING, EDGING with a razor, etc. I went to NAPPS in St. Louis after I went all-natural and said I assume I need a trim, and she looked at it and said, no, the ends look fine! But I'm in Indiana now...

I have tips. When your hair hits shoulder length, wear it up most of the time. Sometimes when hair hits shoulder length it rubbing against clothing at the shoulders will break the hair. This is especially true in winter when we are wearing sweaters and coats. And watch out for static. It can catch hair and your hair may break when you pull it away, like off of clothing. Finally, get a humidifier. It is good for hair and skin. Thanks for this video. You were very very helpful.

I love all of these tips. I’ve been walking around the house with a satin scarf around my shoulder bc my hair is finally hanging on my shoulders in the back but it is still too short to “put up”. I live in an arid climate and very cold winters (although this year it has been mild. Only have reached -3 degrees). Ugh, I deep condition once a week but this last wash day I saw an increase in breakage so I’m thinking I may need to deep condition twice a week while it’s dry AND cold. I also usually drink 2-3 Liters of water a day but this past week I have slacked...big time. The humidifier! Why didn’t I think of that!? I’m getting it ASAP!
@-love-life3267

Yes, you can wear the satin or silk scarf over a coat or anything. Use the scarf as a barrier between other scarfs, colllars and hoodies. I live in the Chi. My clients get the middle breakage when they don’t make a satin barrier between their hair and cotton, or wool materials. The winter months are dry, steaming with a moisturizing conditioner and a little oil of your choice is good too. Also make sure of what’s actually breaking your hair. Stress, medication or low porosity, among other things could be the reason.

Nerissa, thank you, I stop buying a lot of products about two years ago when due to a medical condition I have to drink at least 72 oz of water a day (I drink about 96), I have always hated water but after I started drinking it, my hair went crazy. I have never had hair bra length before, more like ear length lol! But since I have been drinking so much water, my hair my nails are growing like a weed, I hate long nails and now have to trim mine every week, staying hydrated is a BIG plus.

@@GetGlamFam I hear you! No people don't want to hear about water and nutrition because they (we) have been taught to believe that sweet drinks, convenient processed foods (which are void of nutrition) advertised in commercials are equal to or even better than water and natural food. We develop an addiction to the 'poison' drinks/foods and end up with a ton of other things: diabetes, stomach issues, weight (oh, the weight) gain acne skin, fatty liver, and the list goes on, you know the rest of the story. If water and nutrition weren't so vital and important to sustain and maintain a healthy body/life then soda would fall from the sky and gummy fish would be in our rivers' oceans. Brought to you by Mars Candy, Keebler, and Nabisco, thank you but no thank you very much As you said, it takes discipline and it is a process that starts in the mind. If we stop eating the commercials and drinking the jingles that go along with them we would be a helluva lot healthier and happier. All the best to everyone!

What I learned in yet another very informative video of yours: 1. The difference between perms and relaxers 😯. That would've save me from the big chop probably. 2. Bleached hair need more protein also instead of just conditioner. Minimum once a month is is shorter than I would've ever guessed. 3. There is a thing called a Sebaceous gland and it basically gets the nutrients out our body and into the hair. Last but Definitely not least: Zalina will for ever make me giggle like someone surprise goosed me from behind. ☺️ Another awesome video!! 🙌🏾

Video Review: No heat or low heat, leave conditioner, protective styles, moisture, dark colors rinses, perm once a year, and trimming, and invest in quality shampoo and conditioner (high quality), keep the conditioner in your hair over 3 to 5 five minutes, deep conditioner with moisture and protein once a month, stay hydrated, scalp massage, detangler, comb or brush hair gently or comb from the ends/bottom, stay away from alcohol products in your hair, never flat iron or ceramic on dirty hair, sleep on satin or silk bonnet, and eat healthy.

This was right on time, I’ve felt stuck at TBL for quite a while and I’m sure I need to reevaluate my hair care routine. I straightened it last month (thank da Lawd there’s no heat damage 😂) but I only straighten it and use heat once a year around my birthday in January. I gave myself an ApHogee 2-step protein treatment and a moisturizing deep conditioner. I also gave myself a good trim! Maybe an inch or more.....I’m still at tbl so hopefully I’ll start to see more growth from here. I want ALL. THE. GROWTH!!! For the last few years specifically, I’ve been a serial protective styler. My hair spends about 90% of the time in two braids that I try to keep in buns. Buuuuuut that’s more because I’m hair-lazy. I still try to take very good care of my hair. I love ApHogee Deep Moisture shampoo. Where I am it costs $8 for a16oz bottle.....give or take (?). It’s more expensive than the cheap ones you mentioned but it’s not going to break the bank. I’ve used it for years and it’s one of the few products that my hair hasn’t “gotten used to”. It’s also one of the very few shampoos I’ve experienced that never strips the hair but still leaves it feeling very clean. I’ve always used the shampoo/conditioner/shower routine but again...that’s because I’m lazy! Good to know that it’s beneficial lol. As for brushes...Goody has a shower brush with extremely soft and flexible bristles. I go between that and the Tangle Teaser brush (with the handle). The Goody one works best when my hair isn’t overly tangled. I sometimes use that one to do an initial detangle, then follow up with a medium toothed comb. I’ve tried finger detangling several times and I just don’t feel it’s for me. That said...I am very gentle when I comb so I don’t see breakage or extreme shedding even when using a comb. This video was very helpful!!! Most of these steps I already follow so it was good to be reassured. I truly believe it helped me go from about 2 inches to TBL in a matter of 4 years. It was my 2nd big chop because LAWD knows I did wayyyyyyy too damn much the 1st time. I mean bleaching and coloring VERY often, heat more times than I should’ve and not protective styling enough...even though I feel that part is up to the individual. Some people can grow their hair out to long lengths while wearing it out most of the time. Me? I’m lazy sooooo that’s a lot of work. Clearly the running theme in my hair life....is laziness 🤔🤷🏻‍♀️😂

Hey Lin, thanks for the hair growing tips. Let's grow! I would like to request a video on what you think about & the science on natural home remedies like rice water & onion juice & is the sulphur in onions the same as what the sulphur grease has? I have relaxed hair & I've heard several KZfaqrs talking about a bond builder called Olaplex that's quite expensive, I use protein conditioner after relaxing I like. Is Olaplex similar & is there cheaper products that build bonds and is it good to add on hair after relaxing? Thank you so much.

Olaplex is very expensive, i would just say that you invest in a very good conditioner rather. I too am relaxed and I found that using ORS replenishing conditioner after my relaxer has really helped me

Everything you say makes sense. Especially about applying heat to dirty hair. I don’t wash my “black” hair daily, so yes, I’m guilty of applying heat between shampooing or as you say putting heat on dirty hair. I’m one of them that take care of my hair at home and go to the salon for special treatment for a special event. Where I get it washed, deep conditioned, trim and styled. So....I will now wash mine when I plan to use heat on my hair and of course when it’s dirty. Another thing that made sense when growing up, was that one of my older sisters went to the salon every week to get her hair done, the shampoo, deep conditioner (once a month), dry, trim the ends (once a month, not every 4 weeks; you can get a trim on the first of March and get the next month on April 30th; that’s ten weeks.) Her hair always looks good. So yeah I’ve been listening but it finally makes sense...DON’T PUT HEAT ON DIRTY HAIR.

I'm a little late to the game, but I love this video. I'm mostly high porosity, medium density, fine & coarse strands, type 3c mostly, but I see some 3b and 4a developing. I'm at almost 3 months post big chop and have been growing 3/4" to 1" per month so far. I don't condition. I DEEP condition every time. Even though I'm high porosity, my hair loves deep conditioning with my heat cap. My hair also loves heat to marinate the leave in into my various textures and strands (10 mins. usually). This has been a game changer! That, and getting glycerin and heavy humectants out of my life. Great content! I need to watch the boys more often. Thank you SO SO much.

Don’t forget to mention genetics. Some people just have fast growing hair. Taking care of it like he states will help it to not break off so that you will see growth. I often get people with relaxers or color ask me “is my hair growing?” Dumbest question to ask when you’re coming in to ask for a TOUCH UP for NEW GROWTH. Lol Hair is gonna always grow but if you don’t take care of it, you won’t see the length. Just keep in mind that you have to have patience while caring for your hair. Everyone’s growth rate is different.

Yes genetics plays an important part...people that are mixed breed had fast growing hair because ethnic hair has more natural oils flowing through and does not dry out as quickly... Also their hair is less coiiled ....Even the hair on other parts of their body grows fast lol

My tip, because I hate showering then rinsing conditioner onto my clean body, wash your hair in sections. Divide your hair in half. Wash one side. Rinse. Apply conditioner. Split that half into 2 sections. Detangle and apply more conditioner as necessary to each section. When done, move on to the other unwashed half of your head. Repeat steps above. By the time you finish applying conditioner to the half of your hair, its about time to rinse the conditioner out of the first half.
