I never heard of single strand knots until I went natural again 7 years ago. As a matter of fact, I've been using these natural haircare lines because of wearing a wash-n-go, which is when I started getting single strand knots. I really believe it's from having the hair out often which cause the curls to wrap around each other. Also, I didn't learn until a few years ago that when wearing a wash-n-go, you need to cowash in between wash days to keep it well hydrated. When coming up most of us didn't have our hair out, it was always braided or twisted and if we had it down, it had been straightened or roller set, hence no knots. Old school worked.

In addition to the scalp massage element, grease could be said to 'make hair grow' because it is a super sealant. If hair is properly moisturized and STAYS moisturized then hair breaks less and retains length. So it's not really doing anything for actual growth but it can be a God send for people like myself who have high porosity hair and experience issues with moisture retention and frizz. My hair stays soft longer, as a relaxed girl it keeps my new growth soft and supple, my blow outs and straight styles stay that way until i wash because there's no moisture going in our out after I wash and apply my grease. Oils simply didn't work for me...coconut oil breaks me out horribly. My Blue Magic, Sulphur 8 and Vaseline keep me covered. Plus i can base and cover my ends before a relaxer to prevent run off damage. I have fallen in love with grease all over again

I grew up on water, Ultra Sheen, Sulfur 8 & Pink Lotion. My aunt every 2 week routine was wash with flex shampoo/conditioner, towel dried, palm full of pink lotion & some sulfur 8, twisted and air dried over night, then pressed in the am. Before my aunt started that process my hair was stuck on pause. She DID NOT MASSAGE my scalp unless washing serves as a massage. I started using all these new “ natural products” that all you hair guru’s speak of and my hair went back to pause! I went back to water, moisturizer and grease, my hair started growing again. I think people need to do what works for them. If it don’t apply let it fly. GREASE AND WATER WAS THE STAPLE OF MY NEIGHBORHOOD AND MAJORITY OF THE GIRLS I GREW UP WITH HAIR WAS SHOULDER - ALMOST WAIST LENGTH. Soooo idk why we stopped a method that worked and started paying all this money for products that’ don’t work as well on type 4 hair for some people.

Hey Lin, thanks a lot for telling us what grease is actually for. Some people's scalp got clogged from grease once perms & relaxers got super popular some didn't wash hair timely after that, until we got schooled. Before some people got their hair pressed & curled every two weeks (I did) so even if you were using grease regularly the right or wrong way your hair was washed on schedule. Grease is a a good sealant like some other products as well.

Ok, ok....grease does have some benefits😂🤣! And since I have high porosity hair that loves to take up on itself...I might give that a try! Now that tip for swimming.... that's priceless😉. But hopefully we don't have any pull spills in the Caribbean on spring break from all the greased up sisters....lol!!! But seriously I cannot tell you enough how I appreciate the hair wisdom you share with us. And you bring facts with receipts and some much needed humor. You are so appreciated and loved my friend💞!!!!

I am here to disclose that last week I used vaseline, I washed my hair today and it did wash out with a sulfate free shampoo. I also coated my hands with it and washed them with the shampoo and it was gone with one wash (although I always wash twice to make sure my hair is clean and ready to be styled). So... You don't need harsh shampoos to wash out pretoleum jelly 🤷🏽‍♀️

Sulfate free shampoo doesn't necessarily mean gentle, they just use alternative cleansers that do the same thing as sulfates.

@@daisiesandpandas1218 true story fam, they make sulfate free clarifying shampoo, and at this point they also make sulfate based shampoos that are more gentle than some sulfate free lines. Long story short, as long as you can get it off the hair so you can restore moisture to the hair, that’s the goal! ❤️🙏🏽

For me...I am done with all these products supposedly good for natural hair. All I know is that my hair is softer and the moisture is locked in with good ole fashioned grease. When I grew up in the 1950s most women used grease and hot combed their hair (not flat iron.) I look at the pictures of women back then...no locs or weaves. Natural hair down the back. And mine was long as well until I started using so called 'better' products for Black hair. So I have gone back to old school. I keep my scalp clean but I spritz with water, grease my hair and twist it up.

I am absolutely loved this video so unbiased and so informative. Grease is a preference and I have re-discovered it as a sealant but it will not be gracing my scalp, however I have seen the tremendous benefits of applying it to my hair. My hair has always not been a fan of oils as a sealant infact it makes my hair so frizzy so I stopped using most oils expect castor oil only when my hair is soaking wet but in small amounts. Putting grease back into my regime has allowed my hair to actually stay moisturised, less frizzy and more protected and best of all less shedding and breakage which is allowing my hair to grow because its in a cocoon with the leave in applied before the grease and I am not going back. I have managed to refine my haircare routine and my hair is much healthier.

I even had a beautiful Silk Press back in November, unfortunately, my ignorance about the SILICONES used during that process, led to 5 months of horrendous breakage, and bald spots of which I am just now recovering from by The Grace of God, with lots of water, Clarified cleansing, hair masking, deep conditioning, vinegar rinses, leave-in conditioning and--good ole hair grease (LOL) I also contribute a lot of props to Miss Cathy Howse, (Black Hair Care II) the first pioneer of Black Hair Care, citing the lack of MOISTURE as being the Black Woman's long time enemy towards the lack of hair growth and retention. Dear Linwood, I really appreciate your humor. You always catch me off- guard with your shenanigans & comments. I laugh so loudly that one day my neighbors are going to bang on the walls to tell me to pipe down!!😂😂😂 I live in Spain in an area where there is no one who knows how to do my hair. I would have to travel more than 3-1/2 hours one-way to get my hair done. So, thank you kindly for this & your other professional, wonderfully instructional videos. I know that there are many other non-military sistas living in S.Korea, Japan, Europe, some Latin American countries who have no professionals to do their hair either, so your channel is a life saver. Blessings to you & your sweet family. Barbara🌺✨🎶🎵✨🌺✨✨🎵🎶👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽✨🌺👑

I grew up on hair grease and till this day I still use it. I have severe dry hair. I can moisturize my hair and literally 2 days later. It feels like some dry straws! And I'm African-American with a nice texture. But it's just dry all the time. So grease works for me and it grows my hair. Can't explain it all I know is that it works for me personally!❤

Great video.... just as a medic I want to advice though for seborrheic dermatitis the initial recommendation is to use a comb and gently remove the flakes then use an emollient such as petroleum jelly esp in infants and toddlers with frequent hair washing IF that doesn’t work then you will need medicated shampoos. AND natural oils like olive oil in a study may be an excellent medium for some fungal infection to grow worsening SD. Just wanted to clarify that. Love ur channel just found it 😬

Good morning, my take away from this is too use a natural oil that will penetrate my hair and scalp for hair nutrient benefits and use the grease for sealing the hair. A clarifying and sulfate free shampoo are needed to properly cleanse hair. Good information, I enjoyed it, and I am glad you broke things down and gave more clarity and you manage to highlight benefits of using hair grease. Sometimes we just need to be re-taught on how to use our hair products. Blessings my Brother.😊🙏
