Hi I am pattyv. I liked how you did the caning. If you use a mister with water to the chair with the lose cane it has a chance to tighten up when it dries up. Great job take care.

Hi Patty, Thanks for watching. It's actually a plastic faux cane webbing , so unfortunately, water wouldn't do much

Wow thanks for sharing ...sometimes I also learn best by trying and making mistakes or struggling and getting to a easier way for me...not necessarily the " correct way" there is many roads that leads to Rome...I love your straight and unapologetic way of doing things and always being open to learn new things...greetings from a very warm South Africa 🇿🇦

Thank you so much! I’ve been wanting to try this and didn’t have the courage! I’m going to be looking for chairs to replace caning on now! I’ve used caning on flat surfaces when I could use staples . Here in the US caning is so expensive - I’d love to be able to get some for $13 a roll! Can the plastic caning be painted? Love all your videos!

Thanks Twitch, love your stuff! Beginner’s question: could that faux cane webbing be painted or ‘washed’. Was thinking to start with some kind of primer bond paint & then mineral paint over that? Hope that makes sense! Cheers Kell

As a 5th generation caner who was taught by my grandfather fifty years ago, I am somewhat horrified by your technique. There are dozens of great videos online to tell you to do it correctly. I know you are 'happy' about it, but years from now you will look back at your work and wish you had consulted someone with experience. Three huge things would have made a difference. #1 Soaking the sheet of cane would have taken out the slack at the end. Spread out in a bathtub with a couple inches of water would have taken most of the curl out of the sheet. #2 Cut the cane edges past the outside of the groove and tap the cane in with wooden wedges. #3 After adding a bead of glue and tapping the 'spline' (the piece that holds the cane in the groove) into place, trim off the excess cane on the outside of the groove with a utility knife. Another tip: Miter the corners of the spline- like the sides of a picture frame. These steps are all easily available online and are very easy to implement. Learning by doing is good. Doing something badly not so much. Good luck on your next attempt.

I don't think soaking the *plastic* webbing would have helped any. If you are going to criticize you should watch the video more carefully.

No need to ball her out. It's her first time and she said she'd watched previously how others have done it. Oh did you muss the part when she said the rattan was faux and was most probably plastic. Last time I tried to stretch plastic I found water didn't really help. Twitch you did a great job. Ignore the "I would have done it this way". There are always different ways to do everything.

Hi Michael, did you actually watch the whole video and listen or just watch small sections and decide to impart your "wisdom" when it wasn't asked for? It is actually plastic FAUX cane webbing I do say and show this in the video and if you bother to look up the exact product I used you'd see it's plastic. I'm well aware of the fact that soaking real cane webbing is the proper way to do it. But this isn't real so please, go be a know it all elsewhere and do NOT talk to my viewers or myself like we're idiots. Regards, Twitch
