I want to pursue a game development career but I don't have the opportunity to get any kind of education for it. I'm just a kid who makes games and art from home.

@@stellar5706 there’s a lot of free resources on KZfaq that can help you get your foundations down! Fortunately, gaming is a career where you don’t necessarily need a paid education or degree to get into. I know many professional game developers who are self taught! As long as you dare to pursue your dream, anything can come true :) In the near future, I also plan to release a series of videos to help people get into making game art in a easy to understand yet professional manner. Feel free to follow along!

My dream job? Being a pilot , but even trying as hard as I can in every other shitty job I won't never be able to have those 120k€. Well , guess that being able to work in your dream job is just for a few lucky ones.

I enjoyed the video ty. I am wondering and I realize this may not be on your wheelhouse (as you don’t work in HR) but do you think studying a degree related to game art helped in your application? That is if someone went to school for a degree in history let’s say and they made a portfolio do you think they would have a shot at landing a interview at blizzard or wherever or do you think not having a degree in game art would hurt their chances immensely?

Hey I know I responded on reddit but posting the response here again in case it helps anyone else! "Glad you find it helpful! School definitely taught me some fundamentals I needed to be able to execute my art effectively. But I would say a lot of what helped me personally was literally watching youtube videos on using unity and shader graphs, hence why I'm trying to give back to the community in some form of ways! In the art field, at least for game art, portfolio is king and speaks for everything else. Not once did they ask for my major or GPA. I'm sure having gone to an art school would give them extra confidence in me knowing that I've had some sort of formal training. But I doubt they even really looked at my resume much when I applied. I would say it's at least 95% based on your portfolio."

I wish you showed what your portfolio looked like at the time! I'm trying to get jobs in the gaming industry but I keep being met by rejection after rejection. Working on passion project is cute, until sallie mae starts asking for her money....

Hey there! I didn’t include my portfolio because I don’t recommend people doing what I did. I was fortunate to have gotten a chance back then, but knowing what I know now, I wouldn’t recommend my old portfolio as the best example to follow. If you want to get feedback on your resume and portfolio, feel free to shoot me a message on Instagram or email me. You can find them in my KZfaq bio :) I’d be happy to help wherever I can!
