Loading 35mm film on to Patterson tank reels isn't as difficult as you might think. To me, using a dark bag would be a little more difficult than making a darkroom or makeshift darkroom out of a closet or bathroom. In this video, I go over my personal process. It may be the right way it may not be, it's what works for me at this point in time. If things change you'll see an updated video posted. Until then this works for me, every time.

Nice video! I like your method. I’m in the video watching step now, seeing how everybody develops film before start for the first time. Thanks for your patient explanations! I’m subscribed and will check out your other videos! 👍

35mm film loading is EASY, (compared with 4x5) that is. Here's my method which DOES use a changing bag BUT all I do in the dark is wind the film on. That takes about 2 minutes, then it goes in the tank. I am almost dyspraxic, so if my method works for me then it will work for anybody. Seriously. What I do is just take the film in the daylight, cut the leader AND snip off the corners. THEN I feed it into the reel as far as the two ball bearings and a little beyond. IN THE LIGHT. It should hold. Then carefully put everything in the changing bag, preferably using a cut down box to hold the shape. Wind the film on, cut it, plonk it in the tank, lid on. Hey presto, much less hassle than blacking out a whole room. I just wish it worked with MF or 4x5. Good work tho' keep it going.

I totally agree! I was a little intimidated, at first, with the Paterson tank system. Now I prefer that over the Lab-Box. Haven't loaded any 120 film yet or 4x5's. I'm sure that's gonna frustrate me a little 😂😂😂. Someone posted about pre-loading the film, that's such a great idea! I kind of want to get a bag so I can try it out now.

It’s not to difficult with the Paterson reels. Definitely worth getting back into film, just saying 😏.

Another trick is to, with the light on, start the initial threading because you can see it, then finish in the dark, super easy.

Why are people making their lives difficult? It is much easier to insert the beginning of the film into a spool with the light on. After all, the beginning of the film is always overexposed, there is also a section that is wound in the camera, and on which there are never photos, or they are accidental and unnecessary photos. In total, it gives us a few centimeters, which can be easily wound in the light without fear of destroying valuable photos. Similarly, for ease of use, you can have the spool slid over the black axis all the time - it does not bother us at all, and reduces the number of parts to be assembled in the dark. :-)

Hello, HoW many rolls of 35 mm film can one roll of patreson tank fit in.. In other words, how many meters of 35 mm film can be stuffed into one roll at once. Can it be more than three meters at one time.. Wait fora response Thank you..

Each Paterson tank roll holds one, 36 exposure, roll of 35mm film. That should be around 1.625 meters or so roughly. 120 film would be shorter in length.
