How I'm getting PERFECT numbers on the Garmin R10

There's no doubt that the Garmin Approach R10 is a great little home golf launch monitor - it's brilliant value, easy to transport and simple to use.
BUT ever since I reviewed it last year, there has been an ongoing interest in how to get the best spin numbers out of it?
This video answers that question once and for all!

Hi Jon, good video and data , answers a lot of my questions thanks. I get great numbers in the high irons up to 8 Iron than it seems no matter how I hit the ball, irons from there to the 5 iron numbers seem really low. I can hit a 5 iron 180 and my best is 160. Same with my driver, well hit 240 + and I can only get 210 best from my set up. I am just using regular V-1's, I would like to try the silver dot, what did you use for that?

Hi Denise, as I was reading that I was thinking about the ball type. The silver dots just came with mine, alternatively there are the RCT balls that I was able to get online. Could be worth testing them out?

Hi Jon, how have you found lateral movement on your shots, does it seem to recognise draws and fades when used in a net?

Hey. Yes it definitely picks it up and feels accurate to me for the most part. I think you'll always get the odd "random" shot/outcome, but the vast majority are good.

Good video. It looks like you're very close to the net, which I thought was not recommended for best accuracy, what distance are you letting the ball travel before it hits the net? Thanks 👍🏼

Thanks. I just go with what the instruction book suggests. I do think that the more space, the better. Just need to be confident on the direction on the shot towards the net ;-)

Hey jon, im a little late to the party, but I was curious if you would recommend purchasing the R10 if I'm going to use it exclusively for range data? If so great, and if not, is there another sub 1k monitor you would recommend for that? Thanks!

It's a very solid option for sure. From what I've seen the Rapsodo MLM2 Pro is your other real option. The Rapsodo might give you a little extra but you'll need pay an annual membership fee with it, so you might want to factor that into your thinking.

Spin was the least of my problems with Garmin. Granted my setup is in my garage. Numbers are all over the place. PW 121swing speed with 101distance, 5 iron 101 distance, driver distance 141-202. Etc etc. Will save up to get something else.

John waht the distance from the ball to the net? and how much doers this afect acurace, how close can u bring the net to you?

Hey. You're going to want at least 8 feet, which is true of most units that work in this way. I find at that it's good, but typically the more distance you can give them the better.

Would the graphics on the TP5 PXi improve the accuracy of the R10? I can't stand looking at the PXi, especially on the green. The TP5 is my gamer, though. I recognize that this may be a stupid question.

Do you feel that you're getting accurate distance compared to your real life range/course distances? I have an almost identical setup: off mat into net with r10 on level height, and am using ProV1s (RCT balls arriving any day now) and am getting very low distances. I've calibrated it, and even messed with the temp/elevation settings but am getting consistently like 2-3 clubs lengths low ie: 7i going 91-100 yards 😂

Hey mate. Much more accurate than that sounds. RCT Balls definitely help. I find irons very accurate and woods solid but a little more hit and miss. I feel distance to the net can play a part but mine feels more solid than that sounds!

Can anyone help Im getting no shot data from my new r10 well I shot after 200 balls at the range and tried over park connected for 20seconds goes from flashing green then to flashing blue check and it’s lost signal again deleted app 3 times and still no good

Assuming you did all the connecting to the Garmin app and calibrating etc. If the software you are using shows "ready for shot" then "connected" over and over, something is interfering with the doppler radar. In my case it was the projector and the magnetic fan. I have not solved that problem yet, so I turned the projector off and am using a TV for the screen at the moment. It can also be an air conditioner or exercise gear. Something is giving off a magnetic field and messing with the R10 most likely.

Did you set up the garmin correct distance, and level with what the ball lies on. Make sure is it angled slightly down to see ball.

I feel my Garmin is pretty accurate on ball speed and carry distance. I use it when I go to a TopTracer range and get similar numbers.

More importantly, how do you feel the Garmin’s numbers represent your true on course numbers?

It's solid. I think on the whole they are very similar. You'll get the odd outlier but other than that it's on the money.

Why didn’t you go and hit some shots using a Trackman to see how close to your genuine spin the results were?

Hey@@TheBigSlick , it definitely throws in a few that are wrong on spin but you get used to knowing which they are after a while and most of the time it's very solid. I think at the price you can't be disappointed.
