Hey Jon! How come you used the p-avg for the 5 hc but not for scratch? The p-avg for scratch is quite a bit different to the avg so throws that last chart out a bit.
@JonPerkinsGolf
@JonPerkinsGolf 4 күн бұрын
Hey. I was just trying to pick the sets of numbers I felt closest to having already displayed all the data I've got access too. I'm not especially close to the P-Avg of scratch was my point, closer to the P-Avg for 5 h'cap.
@MrDaglish77

Those average HC figures look very suspect. The distance between a 5 and 10 Hc driving distance is 2 yards...? I'm not convinced a 15Hc has a playing average of 236yds, and almost certain a 10Hc wouldn't be averaging 259 yds. I use Shotscope and find it very useful but I've always been suspicious of their analytics, there are just too many variables to take into account and simply averaging out all the 'data' and taking their results on face value...not sure.
@JonPerkinsGolf

Hey. To the last point I assume that is why they try to incorporate a performance average and average, but past that, I take your points and I'm just showing the data I can access. I suppose it's always going to be hard to get true global averages that are totally fair, this might be the closest we have easy access to. I take it as interesting to know, but realising it would likely have limitations.

Hey, to be totally honest I like the product and the idea of it, but I couldn't work out a set training protocol to use with it, meaning it seemed a bit hit and miss and hard to objectively measure. I think there is a place for it, I just would want to follow a set program and be able to measure it, and I couldn't find that.

:-) Glad you enjoyed. I cycled on and off the speed training for a while but not used recently as was taking a few lessons and working on some technical bits. Interestingly when I filmed this, my avg Driver clubhead speed was 107mph, which is 1mph higher than the avg when I was doing the speed sticks. My smash factor isn't as good right now and I'm putting too much spin on the ball, but the speed is solid.

I’ve had this thing for about a year and I also use it outside. Your review is spot-on. Price, ease-of-use, and accurate enough. Of course you can buy more accurate monitors with the better graphics, simulation capabilities, etc., and if there is value to you in spending the extra money, great. But I think for the majority of golfers, the Garmin is plenty good enough and will serve the basic purpose of helping you better understand and improve your golf swing. I put the extra money into a very high end golf mat and net that can survive the south Florida climate, and I couldn’t be happier with the system.

At the entry level I feel like Rapsodo edges Garmin. I think the Mevo is good at the next level and I just used a Full Swing and was impressed by that. Honestly, they're all pretty solid, you just get small accuracy gains, better interfaces, less missed shots as you spend more. (In my opinion)

I would argue the statement longer drives equal lower scores. Yes it could help but 75% shots over par really come down to short game. Chipping/Pitching/Putting is what will really help the scores come down at the end of the day. Drives for show, putts for dough.

Hi Jon, enjoyed the review. How good is the battery? How many rounds from a charge? How long does it last in non-GPS mode?
@JonPerkinsGolf
@JonPerkinsGolf 28 күн бұрын
Good to hear, thanks. I happily wear this watch as a day to day watch, in which case it can go a couple of days between charges. If playing, you'd get 2 rounds back to back out of it but then it would be low. I almost never play twice in a day, so I'd charge between rounds/days anyway (personally). It's very solid at what it does.

Update: Takomo is garbage. After 20 months my 101T irons will not create any spin, hit low shots, and will not hold a green. They are made of cheap metal and the grooves collapse. I even used a groove tool to clean and in hopes for deeper groove but no go. Don’t buy clubs from a half ass cheap Finnish company made in a Chinese none quality control factory.

Returned mine after two rounds. Misses a LOT of shots and records incorrect scores. By the end of the round you have a lot of editing to do, and that doesn’t happen with the Garmin watches. Pity, but IMHO there are better options available than this.

Someone will get a nice prize. That V5 is a great watch. I had a V3, but it was clunky and missed a lot of shots. I had an X5, but the battery life was bad, and the touchscreen made the watch hard to use in the rain, and besides, I hated the touch screen most of the time as it made the watch a distraction. I love the V5, and there is has all the advantages of both the X5 and V3, without any of the disadvantages. I expect to use mine until it dies. FWIW, I also just acquired a Ping driver, and I agree that it is forgiving. I'm thinking about getting some more forgiving irons, as well, as I'm still using some blades (Mizuno MP-30). Good to see you back, and I hope that hamstring heals up nicely for you.

Love that your dad took the challenge and I hope he kept training. I started a multi-system approach 2 years ago and now at age 71 I'm at 112 MPH max with blue and 116 max with green. I also use a Speed Whoosh at 133 MPH max. It's led to +30 MPH ball speed increase to 150 MPH on Trackman with driver and a 10 stroke drop in handicap. The key for me was 1.5 years of experimentation to find the right combination of nutrition/supplements and strength training to protect my joints and allow me to do max speed/overspeed training 100% pain free and with quicker recovery. In my experience gains will be limited by even slight pain.
