We grew up with this pot since 1957, when my parents bought a whole set of Lifetime Cookware. Stainless is awesome. No glass breakage, no plastic,no filters . Talk about a great investment. Thanks for video! Ps, look what those little plastic cup things cost. Pay the price for convenience. And they aren’t recyclable!

Very cool Justin! I use a stainless steal, copper bottom, little, 6 C, vintage, Revere Ware coffee percolator. I love it. My 1920s Clark Jewel gas stove has a special little burner made just for percolating coffee on. It takes about 10 minutes to get to the strength I like once it starts perking. My grandma used to use a glass coffee maker that worked like yours.

My grandparents used the aluminum Drip-O-Lator coffee pot, then kept it hot by keeping the lower pot on the wood stove, always had good coffee. Now at home we have a Breville drip coffee maker, that heats the water to what ever temp and drips it into an insulated carafe, and so far that's the best coffee maker I've ever used!

I bet that is good coffee. I remember we used to make Cowboy Coffee which was just dumping the grounds into hot water, made over a campfire. The old times could do it just right, and they would get the grounds to sink to the bottom so you could pour your coffee with no grounds without a filter. Really brings back happy memories. Hope you will get yourself a little coffee grinder so you will not have to fool with that little piece of paper. Also, this type coffee tastes even better if it is from a coarser grind. Really enjoy your channel. Brings back many happy memories of growing up on a farm in a remote area of West Texas. You remind me of all the fine folks I grew up with. God bless.

Paul how did they make the grounds sink to the bottom? I've had some folks tell me to sprinkle just a smidgen of salt in there to make the grounds stay at the bottom.

@@metcalfmills5679 After years of use, we have found that the paper filters work best for us and to ensure they are placed properly, wetting the filter accomplishes that. There are various sizes available, and the smaller, round ones can be purchased. I like to shake the coffee chamber to ensure even distribution of the dry grounds, before pouring the hot water. A dash of salt also enhances the flavour of the brew.

Are/were DripOLators a Southern thing? I’m 65, so that’s over 30 years of West Coast garage/estate/yard sales; collectible collectives/junk stores and Goodwill, not to mention about a decade on eBay, and this week is the first time I’ve ever heard of this. There are only two videos I can tell of making coffee in one, and both are made with Southerners, so I’m guessing these are/were popular in the South?

I'd get an antique ceramic Drip-O-Lator, if I knew the glaze was lead-free. The Vietnamese use a very similar device called a phin, usually stainless steel, and most commonly with only a one-cup capacity.

I wonder about that coffee cover lid. That one looks like made of aluminum to me. Are you sure is not aluminum ? So, not the one covering the pot but the one covering the coffee grounds. I would appreciate your comment on that. TY !

I didn’t start drinking coffee until I was 60. Now I use a small electric maker. I have (and use) my mother’s set of Lifetime, including a coffee pot identical to yours. I would like to start using Moms coffee maker, which led me to your video. However, I do not remember my Mom ever heating water separately or having any sort of kettle. Mom’s sister is 99 and still “with it.” I asked her about the pot and she thinks the water was heated in the lower pot, then the upper filter part held over the sink (with coffee and little cover in place), hot water poured in, and then top set back onto the bottom. Then set aside to brew. I have hesitated to try this. Would the water come out of coffee area before I can get it put over the bottom pot? I lost power recently and wish I had known how to use this pot.

I think that would work but you would have to be very careful. It takes a few seconds for the water to start

@@metcalfmills5679 thank you for the reply. I will give it a go. The coffee pot has had little use in the last 30-40 years but I still use the skillet, saucepans and bigger pot all the time.
