Oh my gosh this came up at the exact time I needed it most, I’m currently trying to balance 3 different animation projects all due the 22nd and I’m worried I won’t make the deadline because I’m such a perfectionist. (First time taking a college course in animation)

This is incredibly helpful, would it be possible for you to also do a tutorial on drawing and animating fabric? That would be amazing. I learn more from these short videos than I have from any other source, thank you.

Some great advice here. I'm an HoD of an animation department, so I have to manage deadlines for myself and my team, and it's really difficult when some of them are just not great at managing their own time. Like you mention, internal deadlines are SUPER important. It's also better not to rush it all in the last stretch so that you can give adequate attention to each element.

There was this one time when im animating, usually my parents would make a time limit for How long i use my pen but usually they will take the pen at 10 PM and give it bacc at 6 or 7 AM. and everytime when its like close to 10 AM maybe like uhhh....8 or 9 I will start animate my Lipsyncs *REAL FAST* and then after they took my pen I'll try to finish the Lipsyncs by making them as a symbol and then i usually finished the animation at 12 or 1AM lmao especially when im making a *MOVIE* series I havent uploaded the 1st Episode and the 2nd Episode will be an Opened Collab for all animators and theres like 2 more collabs from people that i havent done so...im procastinating a lot right now lmao . . .

I used to absolutely hate schedules and believed in the free spirit approach untill after my first year of hnc I received a c due to poor time management and was told my work itself was worth the A, so the year after to completely my HND I began working to a monthly and weekly schedule which made everything so much easier, and I got that A. I reccomend everyone at least tries to maintain a healthy schedule

My friend.. I study digital animation and arts general. For my first job was in a publicity productora and there the dealines was the most horrible experience. One of the boss tell one day he dont sleep for 4 days for a animation. I work there for one year aprox. The piont is, I love what I do, but I can't create a master piece in 24hrs (sometimes😅) or star from 0 again one animation what take me 3 days in a hour.

I remember the announcement about the animation contest. I foresee that I won't be able to participate. Im too busy relearning how I draw and at the same time tackling how to learn to use Blender which has a learning curve to it. I love both but the way Im progressing is too slow..... Either way, Imma do my best at what I want.

You have a lot on your plate, I wouldn't blame you for sitting it out! Although having a film project can be a good way of learning - because you have a set goal and you learn by necessity instead of learning what you think you might need to know. It's like; setp 1 - write a story outline - OK gotta learn how to write a story outline Step 2 - draw storyboard - alright better learn about composition etc etc

This was useful and enlightening! But what if "crunch time" occurs regularly because you struggle with hyperfocus or autism where pulling all-nighters just happens? My problem is it's really hard for me to just spend a few hours at a time because nothing gets done otherwise. And if I spend too little time a day on a project I just get complacent and lazy with it and try to juggle it with personal projects. I digress, I actually hate the fact I stay up all night just to finish things - I need for my own mental health to slow down and do just a few hours a day or something, but my day goes far too quickly for me to do that and I get scared I'm not doing enough... especially when employers want you to be able to finish quickly.

Ah well you are doing all nighters for a different reason than the ones i listed. Even so it still appears to not be healthy - it knocks your sleep schedule out of whack, but maybe it works for you. I work really late into the night and i get so many comments from people close to me saying that i shouldn’t do it. But you know what? It works. My old housemate suffered from asperges and he has a similar routine of doing all nighters and he ALWAYS delivered on time or before the deadline. It worked for him. So maybe if it works really well without consequence you can keep doing it - but it sounds like it is causing problems for you and you know what you need to do. You just need the strength to do what needs to be done.
