The only thing I saw wrong with this was how much the flange was bent when you sunk in the screw to the rear and left in the video.

Oh I used this same flange with the expandable seal, a year later toilet leaked, found all the bolts had loosened and the nuts on the bottom had fallen off, yes I tightened them down very tight.. Maybe some locktite would have helped..

Handy Dan installation if I ever saw one, learned more of what not to do, so good video after all. One of the benefits of using that type of flange is being able to level it to your floor if your waste pipe is not plumb. So in this case, If not leveling, why not just use a standard 4 x 3 PVC glue in flange?

Not a bad repair. Not a fan of those flanges though. Personal choice. I like the 4x3 glue fit flanges with the stainless steel rings myself. That's a nice trick with the tap cons I started just using red head concrete anchors. I have had way less issues. I always stripped the tap cons, I get a little impatient sometimes.

@@ChuckBarron was this system PVC or cast iron? If PVC. Yes why not use a glue on with a stainless steel flange. 1 a handi-man or homeowner can't crank down so hard on his closet bolts and flare this flange up. If it was PVC why not just remove the old flange from the outside of the pipe & glue on a new flange with a stainless steel flange? Easier than what this job was. Glued on hubs come right off. Sorry about my other post. I thought it was cast iron. But?? These were invented for handyman & homeowners to be able to do this kind of work. As a professional. "We" are supposed to put it back as close to original as we can. Or better. If you are just going to do Handi-man type of work. Why don't your customers just hire a Handi-man. Pay his hourly fees instead of a plumbers fees. Unless you are charging Handi-man fees?? Money is something you can't seem to talk about.
@ltsgarage7780
@ltsgarage7780 5 жыл бұрын
@@ChuckBarron they are sweet for a Handi-man or homeowner to use. Plumbers should be able to replace it or put it back to original. We should hold ourselves to a Higher Standard than just a Handi-man or homeowner. That's what I was always taught to do. I've seen someone cut the PVC pipe all to hell like you did here. Then they get those 3 lugs down so tight it expands the pipe down inside. Then I've had to rebuild this mess. Instead of taking this type of "repair flange" out and installing a new one because the owner has been tightning it down over the years. "Warped the flange". I've built an inside cutter so I can get way down inside the pipe. Cut it off at least 2.5 inches below the floor. Take a piece of 4 inch PVC pipe that has a factory glue hub on it. Cut the hub back to 2 inches. Then cut the pipe to 2 inches long. Are you with me? Take this piece and glue it to the sewer pipe that you cut 2 inches below grade. Then glue an original hearco flange on with a stainless steel hearco flange that should never rust out. Buy the good Stainless steel flange. Doing it this way. You should never have to change out the Hearco flange ever again. If for some reason you do. You pop the flange hub off the pipe. Glue on another one. Stainless steel flange..... Done the correct way. What I just explained to you was because you used this Repair flange in the first place. They expand the pipe when you tighten down the 3 lugs inside. Does any of this make sense to you?

Why not put it back to original. It lasted for the last 75 or a 100 years. How long is this plastic going to last? Pouring in a good lead joint and original cast iron flange. You nor any other handy-man or plumber will have to replace it for another 100 years. I understand this kind of flange if you cant pour a lead joint. Or, don't have the tools to do one. They are easy peasy. Take about the same time as this plastic take to install. So it's not a time thing. Reasons CB? I'll wait over here in the rain CB. It's flooding everywhere in California.

CB I just went back & watched this complete video. A single jack, a chisel. This flange comes out in about 3 minutes. (Maybe less) time is money! Were you never taught how to remove a cast iron flange. What I've come to learn by watching so many young plumbers. I don't think you were ever taught how to remove the original flange and put it back to original. I don't have a angle grinder in my van. Doing it this way took way to long. Being just a few years older. I was taught differently. Back when I started we "HAD TO" replace that cast iron flange. They didn't make these repair flanges. When they first came on the market. They were the homeowner & Handi-man. Don't get me wrong. I've used these things. They just aren't my go to way. Only my last resort way. It's your go to way. I just don't understand why you took so long to remove the old flange. Tools to remove flange. 2.5lb Single jack. Chisel. Then if I needed to lower the edge of my pipe because I had to use one of these flanges. My last tool to lower the pipe. A 10 or 12 inch crescent wrench. Do you know why the crescent wrench? Were you ever taught how to remove a lead flange before angle grinders came along?

I'm sure cb knows how to drill and melt it out, if it was lead. With this particular flange the height is taller than the old metal PVC flange and thus he cut it lower so that the flange isn't so high. No worries! love the vids, always something to learn ...it's like smell o vision.
@ltsgarage7780
@ltsgarage7780 5 жыл бұрын
@@rickw4160 if it were a lead on flange. You dont need to melt anything. No heating required to remove an old metal lead on flange. The come right off with a metal chisel, 3 lb triple jack. 3 to 5 hits. Split it. Pliers pull the lead out. Chisel lifts the broken old flange out. Maybe 5 minutes worth of work. Sep your new flange. Pack in your oakum. Pour your lead joint, pack. Screw to floor. With this pvc flange he had. Split the PVC hub off the pipe with custom home made tool. Re-glue a new flange on to the pipe with a stainless steel flange. Drill and screw down. This complete job if done my way would have taken less time than it took him to cut the old one off. I would have been there maybe 30 minutes from start to finish and charge as much or more than he did. That's how you make money in this business.

4 inch on a slab could use 3 inch glue in to the inside of the pipe. Depending on slab thickness you could use an inside cutter and a coupling. I don't like what you used because of the Allen screw location. Too easy for paper etc to catch on and clog. Comment was a little on the harsh side, sorry about that I had a few in me last night
@ltsgarage7780
@ltsgarage7780 5 жыл бұрын
Well now. Someone else on the planet. Why not just pour it back like it was. It lasted with a cast flange not even screwed to the concrete for 75 to a 100 years. How long is this plastic going to last? I dont carry one of these plastic flanges in my van. I do always happy a 2x2 & a 2x4 cast iron flange. I'm a put it back to original type of guy. Plastic is fine for plastic. If you can't get the old glued on flange hub off. Sometimes you can. Sometimes you can't. But cast iron is really easy to put back to a 100 year original.
