Grocery shop one day later every week. This means no food waste, and you can get creative with leftovers. Doing this means that every 7 weeks of the year, you save yourself one grocery bill.

I changed my eating habits by eating mostly fruits and veggies, rice beans lentils seeds and nuts etc... A lot of water... I am sort of a vegetarian but aim to go Vegan. I have no car so my transportation costs are minimal with city transit. As for entertainment, even though Netflix is decent in cost, I just WiFi everything and use KZfaq and read a book. Avoid gym memberships by using the city (Also a native New Yorker) as my gym and avoid going to bars, restaurants etc for the time being. Every month I find myself saving $200+ on these things, oh and as a guy having a friend who doubles as a barber helps out a lot with barber fees lol...

Thanks for the tips. what I do to cut a bit of our electric bill is to not use the heat to dry the dishes in the dishwasher. I run it at night, but not every night, and in the morning I open the door a bit and let it dry on its own. I also use a drying rack for the small loads of laundry.

This is nice but sometimes I’m like is this even living! Not saying live above or below your means but dang we save to just pay off debt or for emergencies we use credit that we don’t even get to use the money but I know the benefits of credit but we save for retirement so to finally enjoy life at 65 smh stop eating at restaurants That’s crazy! So saving to just survive in this world see like myself I am a believer if Christ I also live for things that are eternal value and I just want to know what is the benefit of doing these things unless you are applying real estate buying g properties establishing a business or something but other than that you obtain this score to have some type of prestige’s social status or what I don’t get it. Myself I got a career to make more income so I can continue to live where I want continue to do the things I enjoy and still save if I need or want to. Stocks, bonds banks currency is not 100% guaranteed it can collapse them what? The money or cash can be of no value then what? I read in the Bible eventually it will be a one world government and religion and if you do not confirm to the mark of the beast basically that social statues or whatever you want to call it and you receive the mark of the beast you are doomed! FYI

I buy two newspapers every week and coupon. It isn't time consuming or a hassle like some people make it out to be. I spend 30 minutes per week clipping and organizing my coupons, then finding the best sales to use my coupons with. Every month I save at least $50 on items I already buy.

There are things you can do to save money that a lot of people don't think about. One thing you can do is stop buying napkins and paper towels. Just use a regular towel and wash it. Also when it's a warm day hang your clothes up instead of drying them. Try to use the bathroom at work instead of at home that way you are using their toilet paper. When you have to buy clothes go to the thrift store. If you drive make sure your tires are properly inflated at all times. For two PSI of air pressure under the recommended level in your tires, you lose 1% on your gas mileage. That adds up over time, and there are lot of places where you can fill them for free. Or invest in a small air compressor. Cut your own hair or have a frugal friend do it for you in exchange for you doing theirs. If you aren't using a electrical device unplug it. Many devices still draw power even when turned off if they are plugged in. That should get you started now use your brain and the internet and find more ways to cut. You don't even really have to give up much to save just be proactive about it and think about what you are doing.

Saving half of your income seems like a lot of money to save, but it's really not that difficult. I only make $28k a year and I'm able to save half of my income fairly easily. I first do it by reducing the amount of taxes I pay so my net pay is higher. I max out my IRA and have a side business that I write off all my expenses such as mileage, internet, phone, ect so that my income is low enough that I qualify for the maximum retirement savings credit. My monthly net pay is $350 more per month because I claim 10 and don't have to pay taxes. I also live in a studio apt where my monthly rent is only $400, I don't have a car payment, I drive a hybrid that saves on gas, I plan my meals and only buy the food that I need, and I don't have a smart phone. I still live a life and do fun things like going out to eat, going to movies, and having fun with my hobbies, but I budget my spending and am smart with my money.
@taoist32
@taoist32 7 жыл бұрын
Nate G01 sounds a bit boring but if you like that lifestyle, that's fine. Why not create more income in your side business so it equals the amount you make in your job? That way, all you need is your business which has potential to make even more money. Why settle for less? Learn how to get more tax deductions as your business grows.
@nateg0140
@nateg0140 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah I thought about that, but I am very limited to the clients that I can reach with my side business because I have a non-compete agreement with my employer. I know I'm not getting paid what I deserve, so I will consider something different within the next year. Maybe I can find an opportunity that will give me the best of both worlds, a higher paying job with more flexibility to grow my side business. I know I shouldn't settle for less, but I wanted to make a point that you don't need make a lot of money to save and build wealth.

Hi, I live in NYC as well. A good tip for saving money is to not shop fresh direct. Find a really good super market near you with sales. I live 4-5 subway stops from a fantastic shoprite. I go once a week for groceries and ONLY buy the sale items. I plan my meals around the sale. I just looked at fresh direct and eggs are 3.50 the cheapest for a dozen. At shoprite I've seen the price range from 99 cents to $2 for 18 eggs! Also you don't need to shop for 2-3 hours. I pull up the sale flier online, their sales change weekly and make a list of the sale items I need so I don't walk around excessively when I get there. Also they give you next weeks flier I believe on wednesday. So I can see what goes on sale next week and forgo it this week if its not on sale this week. Hope this was helpful. Most online grocery deliveries have inflated prices for groceries. My parents are both immigrants and I grew up very very poor. So I love saving!

Khi Burgess Top tip get out and commute in. I have friends that halved their rent by moving 30 miles but many Londoners think the M25 is a force field they can not travel through. Although London is expensive I know even more stupidly expensive places as I worked for a company with a Hong Kong office for a while and ouch but much more attractive than London which is stupidly expensive and awful place to live.

Khi Burgess Indeed but I guarantee London will not even make the Top 10 when compared with the world. At 300k for a garage no doubting it is silly money but compared with Hong Kong, Sydney and Vancouver it is not so just shows what those other places are like. Maybe 500k for a garage I don't know.

The Modern Investor I concur in comparison to income especially but the standard of living is still much lower than Hong Kong and even parts of Australia and because of Chinese money Vancouver. £300k for a garage though definitely says something is rotten in the heart of London.

We don't have cable (outrageously expensive so we use an antenna) but pay for internet, Netflix, and Hulu. We rarely eat at expensive restaurants but if we do (for special occasions) we go at lunch time when the prices are cheaper and of course only drink water ( who wants to spend $3 for a Coke??); or use a coupon at fast food places.

Dontee Weaver That is good if you are not disciplined so not for me but many will find it useful so you should do it. Given a std Devi of plus or minus 5% my food bill walking is free and everything else is set via direct debit and is fixed so I always know what my bank balance is allowing for a few percentage points for treats such as special offers. Definitely recommend fixed outgoings and walk to the supermarket so you buy much less.

get a job early. I need to be 14 to work at this place in florida so when i turn 14 which is in a couple months I will begin working and I will have a checking account and savings account and sense I'm a kid there's nothing really I have to pay for so what I plan on doing is cutting my check directly in half and put it into both accounts, whenever my checking has enough in my opinion I'll put through rest into savings unless I need it.

I save by using nappy inserts in cotton towelling for babies usually, that I can wash as I have slight urine intolerance a lot cheaper than disposable pads, I Must of saved quite a few pounds over the last ten years I also disinfect/sterile my tooth pick brushes for between my teeth and reuse more than once I also make my own mouthwash with distilled water and essential oils like spearmint or peppermint oil and tea tree oil a few drops of each in a medium brown glass bottle it lasts ages I just make up a new bottle every few days and the little bottles of the oils last for over a year or more, and stopped my gums bleeding in a few days when I first started using the oils and it is a lot cheaper than the ones you buy for gum decease in the shops my dentist was impressed with my teeth and gums this last visit

I got a lot of ideas from your video. I use to pay big bucks for brand name detergent Gain at $8-$13! I live alone in an apt and my clothes really don't get that dirty. One week I bought the large Gain dish detergent $2.00+ to use instead. It's the same brand that I use for my clothes and can't tell the difference. It still had the fantasic smell but its $10 cheaper. An expert recently said that we are washing the life and color out of our clothes with these super detergents anyhow

I lived like this for a few years to pay off a sick car in 2 years flat that was normally beyond my means. It's definitely a doable strategy with your eye on the prize. If you're doing this to save for retirement, it's pointless because life is crap when you're old. Enjoy your money, health and beauty while you can. It's a short term goal lifestyle change. If you do this long term you are going to eventually become miserable because everyone else is living life.
@missbehelpful
@missbehelpful 7 жыл бұрын
Omg! This is kind of depressing! But um, no my goal is to retire early so that I don't have to wait until I'm old to live my life the way I want to live each day. I can wake up and do whatever I want all day instead of working for others - I can work on myself ;) thanks for watching and commenting! I'm impressed that you paid off a fancy car in two years! That's dedication!
@craigmak

+MissBeHelpful Thanks! It definitely took a lot of discipline and self control. I took up cheap hobbies like basketball, running & computer games while many of my friends blew their pay checks at the club every weekend. You look way too young to be thinking about this stuff. I wanted an awesome car but I can't believe you are thinking about retirement already. Being in NY can definitely help since it's a high income area. Pack away those inflated dollars for a decade or so and then take them someplace where the cost of living is lower. I moved from Seattle to AZ and found that houses and rents are dramatically more affordable here however incomes are also a bit lower. It's refreshing to see a woman who's strategy is not to simply find a sugar daddy haha.

craigmak Paid off a Rally GTi car in 3 but disagree on retirement as if you have enough to live on now that is fine but when you are old no salary coming in will not be good and if you don't make it then so what you never truly needed it What you don't want is to struggle and investing early avoids that. I have never struggled but I would if I did not have my salary coming in each month, well not truly struggle more feel the pinch.
