Neil, wonderful video. I subscribed because even though I'm familiar with the techniques you demonstrated, you explained your creative steps and rationale very efficiently. You packed enough information and tips into ten minutes that most people wouldn't get out of a hundred KZfaq videos. Keep up the good work and I can't wait to see more. Although I have to say, when I saw "The Monkey" title and then saw your backlit red ears, I thought you were poking fun at yourself! ;-)

Hello Neil, I have recently discovered your videos. This one is very good as you clearly show and narrate what you are doing and the reason behind your technique. This image is a stunning moody photo of the couple and would not have thought about using the mirror for this as a image portal like a lens for example. I have always used the mirror to get front and back image of the subject. As they look into the mirror and I shoot of to the side behind the subject. I love using Lightroom much more than PS. Again great video.

Hi Neil...Great video...Thanks a lot for sharing your experience and thoughts...learnt a lot from you and I'm a great fan of yours.Could I kindly check with you which is a speedlight you recommend to overpower sunlight outdoors.Thank you . Kevin
@NeilRedfern
@NeilRedfern 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much Kevin, I really appreciate that! I'm afraid most speedlights would struggle to overpower the sun unless they were extremely close to the subject. The closest may be the Godox Ad200 but I haven't tried that myself. There are portable lights which are much stronger, such as Elinchrom Quadras, although they are physically much bigger than a speedlight. It is for this reason I rarely use off camera flash in bright conditions.

Great video, interesting insight - many thanks for sharing it! What is the trick for focusing when using mirrors? I've tried it before and it's always been a bit out. Also, in an actual wedding, would the B+G be happy to maintain a pose for so long? I know it wasn't actually that long but in the few weddings I've shot, once I've taken 1 or 2 photos in one spot, they're wanting to move on and then get back with their guests. Obviously we can't 'rob' too much of their time, but do you have any suggestions to buy a bit of time to get it right? Thanks!!
@NeilRedfern
@NeilRedfern 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much! I personally haven't noticed too much of an issue focusing in the mirror but that will be down to the mirror rather than your camera I think. And if this were a real wedding I would have taken this shot in a fraction of the time, I took so long here because I wanted to show you each step of the process, but with practice you wouldn't need the first first steps, you could just jump straight to the end. I would hope to get this shot taken in less than a couple of minutes if it were a real wedding :)

Thanks for posting Neil, again another cracking tutorial. Can I ask what you set your zoom to on your flash for this type of shot? TIA
@NeilRedfern
@NeilRedfern 5 жыл бұрын
My pleasure Richard, I'm really pleased you enjoyed it :-) I usually have the zoom set to around 50mm or 85mm, although it doesn't really matter when using a grid because that limits the spill whatever the zoom of the flash is set too. Even if the zoom is set to 200mm on the flash the grid will channel the light far more than that. I hope that makes sense?
