HOW I SHOT THIS | Off camera flash wedding portrait through a fountain

In this behind the scenes video from a recent wedding which I photographed, I explain how I took a creative off camera flash evening portrait of a bride and groom at a wedding, stood next to a fountain at Broadoaks Country House Hotel in the Lake District.
To create this photograph I used three speedlights with gels and modifiers attached.
As well as showing how I set up and took the photograph I also show how I edited the photograph in Adobe Lightroom.

Wonderful. I love your creatives ideas, Neil, and the beautiful results you achieve with a couple of modded speed lights. Did you experience much chromatic aberration from the speed light behind the couple and are there any particular methods you use in post to deal with it other than the tick box in Lightroom?

Thank you so much Vernon! I don't recall experiencing any chromatic aberration at all and rarely do to be honest - maybe this is down to the camera (Nikon D810) I use but it's never really been a problem.

I need help understanding the right half of the pic. We have the blue of the fountain, the backlight of the couple and then the blue again. Where did the blue of the right come in as there was only two flashes? Did the backlight on the couple overwhelm the blue? Thanks and I am a big fan of the videos! Thanks!

Hi Neil, by working on your own, did you artificially light the subject momentarily to obtain focus?

Good question! I'm this situation no as it wasn't dark enough for my camera to struggle to focus. There have been many times though when I will turn the torch on on my phone and give it to the bride and groom so they can light themselves so I can focus. That works well

Love the shot and thanks for sharing! All the smaller water droplets surrounding the couple, were they they in the scene already or did you add that? Was that the spray from the fountain?

Thank you very much Nancy! Good question, I'm not totally sure but it wasn't raining when I took the shot so I think the smaller droplets must be very fine spray from the fountain
