Here's how I broke my phone addiction in 3 simple steps. And the best part is willpower isn't the answer. Most of us would like to use our phones in a more productive way instead of an impulsive way. In this video, we cover three exercises (some a bit unconventional) that have shaped my life in the past few years. These exercises have allowed me to stop checking my phone, but without needing to rely on willpower.
If you apply these exercises you will see a marked difference in how you use your phone. Especially the last exercise, which literally allows you to unlearn your compulsive, habitual behavior. Which is kind of a big deal I'm learning. If you want a whole book on this, here's one I'd recommend.

Thanks for stopping by my channel where we focus our energy on self-improvement, productivity, and making the best possible versions of ourselves. Obviously, this is not attainable, which is kind of the point. Never stop growing and improving. Most of what we cover are personal lessons that I have learned, as I don't have the authority to speak for others, but just my personal experiences. Below we have a discord server where you can message me, there is my gear, and also my website. Thanks again for watching!

Our world needs this. It’s sad to think how much we dismiss our phones as a presence (like always having them even in our solitude time), yet they are our greatest distraction.

Ironic how helpful this video is because me constantly checking my phone had me actually see it. Keep up the good work, these videos are absolutely amazing.

Love this vid :) I’ve been doing something a little similar for about 3 months now. I started to turn my tech off COMPLETELY about an hour or so before bed and put them away in a drawer away from my bed where they couldn’t be easily accessible. Then slowly but surely, I replaced the things I’d do on my phone with other things, like reading, listening to music on vinyls, craft work, anything like that. Huge thing that I learned: I cannot recommend enough replacing/substituting things that your phone/tech can do with analogue items; a physical alarm clock instead of your phone alarm, a small bedside fm/am radio for music/news (and speaking directly to my generation as someone who is gen z, radios are pretty cool :) especially if you find a station whose music you enjoy, it’s often a lot of company or something to just have on in the background!) sticky notes or a small notebook for reminders, things like that make a huge difference. Ofc not everyone has the money to buy replacements for what your existing phone can already do, but I find by having atleast a few analogue things on hand can alter your level of dependence on your phone. As a side note; it is SO refreshing to have a thing that just switches on and does whatever the hell it’s supposed to do without screaming at you to update it, buy a monthly subscription for it, or charge it, HUGE game changer.

👍🏽Same way i thought about it before. Iam thinking of doing something like you but by having another phone! The nokia old type u know for main phone calls! And putting this exaggerated tech on my desk top as a fancy device! And not entering my bedroom with it! The problem is the sim card 🤦 how can get an internet with the sim card installed in an old Nokia? e-sim 🤔

Right. I COMPLETELY agree with your suggestions about getting an actual alarm clock to replace your dependence on the alarm clock on your phone. I've suggested this to a few people but they just laugh at me. I just have a small flip phone that does nothing fancy but let me make calls and allow me to receive calls. I LOVE it.

So, the top three learning from this video are 1. Try to come out of autopilot. 2. Environment in which we work is way more important. 3. The bad/Unproductive habits we have follow the law of reversibility. Plz let me know if I am correct.

I really appreciate the way you are changing your life. Grabbing and overusing a cellphone are sort of tempting actions for anyone in the world, but we need to take control of it. It's neither a bad nor a good habit. I don't rarely concentrate on everyday household tasks because of such dependence on my phone 😂. And to be honest, sometimes I burn myself out when getting bored and scrolling down on my phone without looking at interesting things to be engaged in. It usually happens to me and many people anywhere in the world, but I try to find enjoyable things to do outside of my device which becomes second nature. A powerful mind and self-control are in your hands.

Sadly I can't detox my phone from my environment, I'm underage and my phone is a must for my parents to know, where am, if something happens, etc... I will put the other two on practice though. Thank you for the amazing content once again. 🙋

I didn't know apart about Pavlov and unassociating. There is another one you might not have heard of... If you reward an animal only part of the time, it actually strengthens the behavior. I don't remember where I heard it. Maybe BF Skinner Subbed

Does exercise #3 work with depression? 😣Its hard to believe those strong emotions have such a short "lifespan"...
@AustinSchrock
@AustinSchrock 4 ай бұрын
Yes it does. In fact consistently distracting from or avoiding what is unpleasant and uncomfortable is, unfortunately, often the start of a slow trek to increased anxiety, bodily pain, vulnerability and disempowerment. Depression is the result of being disconnect from yourself, which ties directly into what you allow yourself to feel
@brendalg4
@brendalg4 3 ай бұрын
In my case, I'm not using my phone to avoid an emotion. When I first wake up, I am in too much pain to do anything. I start doing stuff on my phone. But then I might not notice when I start to feel better and use my phone for too long.
