✨Welcome back everyone✨
✨Today I’ll be showing you guys how I study Mandarin Chinese - I decided to challenge myself during this quarantine to learn a language I’ve always wanted to. That’s what life is all about I guess :)
✨Unlike Japanese I’m still a beginner in Mandarin so please don’t mind my beginner pronunciation, but my writing should be up to scratch because I’ve been studying Japanese for more than 4 years (hehe)
✨I hope you’re studying while you watch my study videos 🌝 = “multi-tasking at its best”
✨Also please let me know what kind of videos you would like to see in the future!
Useful resources:
- Coffee Break Chinese Podcast
- YoYo Chinese - For Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced courses
- Collins Easy Learning Mandarin Chinese Characters Book
- HSK 1 Word List I'm using: giammy.com/hsk/hsk1-a3.pdf
- Quizlet
- Daily Mandarin (App)
- Chineasy (App)
Oh yea, I have a study gram now - @jazminelayahstudies

For anyone wanting new methods for learning new vocabulary: I write down the words I want to learn on the far left side of my notebook (this is all done at the BACK of the book, so away from all my lesson notes etc) and then the meaning in your language on the far right of the page. Now, whenever u want to review, take a book to cover one side and test yourself! (Make sure to test yourself on both sides of the page) Another unrelated tip, if you want to learn another language and you already have learn one use this to learn the nest language ie. I am English but I have learnt French, so I use French to learn Russian and Hebrew - this is great to keep practicing all your languages at once and not having to spend extra time making sure you don’t forget your previously learnt languages! Question for you: what are your next languages to study? And what is the writing system in mandarin called? Your videos always inspire me, so thank you :)

As a student learning Mandarin Chinese in school (and home) since 2019, I have to say, I'm really impressed with your study habits and your pronunciations! Mandarin Chinese is hard to communicate with because of the tones; one tone can change a whole sentence (请问; qing wèn - to ask, vs. 请吻 - to kiss). And yes: sometimes I have the same speaking mistakes. Anyways, keep up the good work, Jazmin! 许多拥抱!!! ♡♡♡

Hey jasmine! One feature of Memrise that I love is that you have the option to just bulk add new words after typing them into an excel document in two columns, like column one meaning, column 2 character, column 3 reading (yomi ) (I mainly use it for Japanese) and it saves soo much time! Maybe they have a similar option in Quizlet as well? just a quick advice, have a nice day :)

Hi I’m learning Chinese. I have difficulty figuring out sentence meaning when I translate each chinese characters one by one. most of the time i use the google translate to get the whole sentence meaning for example: 汉语的声调有区别意义的作用: you- there is qu - area bie -separate yi- idea yi - right conduct zuo - compose yong - use but the sentence meaning is literally: Chinese tones have a role in distinguishing meanings How do i make sense of the sentence in Chinese?

Amazing video! Many thanks to the author of the channel for the recommendations! The problem with many people is that they want to take a "magic pill" or get "secret knowledge" and immediately have skills and abilities. However, the truth of life is that knowledge, skills, and abilities do not come by themselves. You can't learn a foreign language without doing anything, without wasting your time and effort, just like you can't learn to ride a bike lying on a comfy couch, listening to lectures and watching videos about "modern methods of learning" on a bike. To really learn something, you have to really practice every day. You're going to fall down while you're learning, and you're going to get bumps - that's normal! The ups and downs of learning are an integral part of our lives. Motivation from success and depression from failure will always be your study companions. However, every student has problems in his or her studies that he or she lacks the knowledge to solve. It can be: poor memorization of words; no progress in language learning; the student can speak, but does not understand speech by ear; misunderstanding of grammar; incorrect pronunciation, etc. Agree that a problem you don't know how to solve is very demotivating. In order to find the answer to our question we have to spend a lot of time to read videos, articles and books by polyglots. In today's world, we have to solve problems as quickly as possible. I don't have time to study and analyze a huge amount of information. My goal is to master the basic knowledge of a foreign language as quickly as possible and already start earning money effectively in the international arena. I settled on the practical guide by Yuriy Ivantsiv " Polyglot's Notes: practical tips for learning foreign language". This book is always in my bag. If I have a problem while learning a language, I quickly find the answer in this book. There are many different techniques and tips for learning a foreign language in Polyglot Notes. I have made my own individual schedule and plan for language learning. Now I know what I am going to study, how I am going to study, when I am going to study and what results I am going to achieve. No problem could stop me! With an effective language learning plan my professional skills are more and more in demand internationally every day. Friends, don't stop there! Everyone has talents that millions of people around the world need! Learn the language and make your ideas and dreams come true! Thanks to the author of the channel for the informative and useful video! Your videos motivate me.

I think there’s all the JLPT N5 KANJI in this textbook and for Mandarin, all of HSK-1 characters - Kanji Look and learn (Textbook and Workbook) for your first 500 Kanji -Also JLPT kanji textbooks are great because you don’t wanna learn Kanji aimlessly - The test is great if you wanna work in Japan too! I hope this helps! I’m sure many others will have some great recommendations. Plus he sure to follow Japanese Studygrams too! I find so many new ideas every day ✨❤️

Chinese is a good language to learn too because it's very wide spread with simple words represented by their own individual characters. The characters can be a pain to memorize (hence the extensive reading & writing practice) but the language when it's spoken makes more sense when putting it together because most sentences are simple at first. Also just a tidbit for anyone out there when they learn an asian language try practicing with the language settings on your phone to memorize the characters (also the phones tend to work faster in Mandarin or Korean for some reason lol) You'll be surprised how refreshing to see how internally familiar we are our devices even without latin letters based on symbols and settings our brain can remember.

Also (not to the video maker, but to the viewers who read comments) I've recently learned most Kanji/Hanzi/Hanja are really just simple pictures reconfigured into caligraphy to form bigger words. Like when the symbol for the tree is shown in rows it becomes forest, e.t.c. Not that I said anything new but some beginners really struggle to grasp the written part of chinese compared to speaking. As I have hard heard how people will also not so easy grasp writtens without extensive memorizing so it's best to associate the character simply with the word first then try to learn the character usage. Only reason why I mention this is because the characters written in Chinese are not so easy to learn since many teachers I jad met before insisted learning the writing first over the speaking which is discouraging.

Also remember, most of China use Simplified Characters now in comparison to the old ones that have been passed through time (Except in Singapore, Taiwan, and Maçao and country/border parts of China where the Older writing system is still in use.) But to be honest most people do use a bit of both writing forms, so when you start combining words just remember the sound first with what the picture symbolizes (like how má is water) but don't be afraid to apply the character to your native tongue to help easier associate yourself in memory. Remember though speaking comes first so before literacy is always the spoken words that come to make the language. So feel free to experiment with word associations with different ideas to help you think quicker in your feet. Also a bonus fact: Chinese is SVO like English! So most sentences can be typically translated word for word (So a sentence like "Mike goes to the store." is the same as said in Chinese.) (Side note to that: only some sentences and slangs rarely aren't so literal or direct. But every language has nusiances that give it's own life)

OMG I remember as a Chinese kid, we were required to do that in my school as homework, and I was like, okay! I wrote the prettiest letters in my class before, so my teacher gave me a sale of that I only need to write half the page.
