mochikanji actually seems useful.. i usually ignore sponsors but i like how they split vocab into different sections. im moving to tokyo in 3 days (to attend KAI because your video convinced me lol) and the travel vocabulary seems helpful

For me, I'm always impressed the golden time of MochiKanji, it doesn't remind me continuously, but its reminder would be sent at reasonable intervals. Effective!!

Congrats Jullien and great video! I am slowly, trying to learn Japanese again before I become a lazy old man! Also, That's how my brain feels with Swedish over the past few years. Since I finished the Swedish Skill Tree a few months ago, I started funnelling in some Norwegian. I am nowhere fluent in Swedish but my brain knows enough that it finds Norwegian somewhat boring so, I alternate. However, I am glad I started with Swedish first instead of Norwegian even though Norwegian is slightly easier but the difficulty is about even almost in both languages.

Very interesting, as always. (Yayyyy!) A question for you, Julian: Since I know the Swedish translation of Finnegans Wake (by James Joyce) by heart, do you think it will be a good idea to learn Japanese by reading the Japanes translation over and over again? (As I know you are a translator yourself, I would appreciate an answer from someone who knows how difficult life can be sometimes.)
@FishSlappee
@FishSlappee 2 ай бұрын
Goodness, impressive! I think any immersion is worth it if it's enjoyable, and reading a translation of something you know well sounds like a good idea. This reminds me of a @livakivi video where he watches one episode of JoJo's bizarre adventure over and over again until he knows what everything means. I'm thinking of doing something similar for another anime soon. Thanks for the comment!

Goodness, don't beat yourself up over your Japanese! At the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California, Japanese is a Category IV language, the hardest, and requires full time study for 64 weeks at least! Good for you, for jumping into an immersion situation. BTW, I spent a year in the Army living outside of Tokyo. Wonderful people.

cure dolly is pure gold but i personally would recommend seeking out a google doc which has transcribed all of her videos (i am too drunk to link it myself so go find it yourself ganbare) because she can be pretty fucking wordy at times and the audio is also pretty hard to comprehend for anyone with normal human ears. some people (like khazumoto of ajatt fame) recommend not even bothering with grammar study at all, so...

Not really honestly, except maybe because I am 31 years old haha. But then again, if I could choose to either be fluent in Japanese at, let's say, 34 years old or not fluent at 34, it's an obvious choice ^^
