It's my first shorty!! I've been wanting to some short "how-to / tutorial" videos that weren't an entire frickin production- and I was inspired to finally make one after getting my hands on a spidermite-infested plant. 😬
In this video I'll show you how to identify spider mites, the kind of damage to look for when identifying them, how I treat plants with them and also give you a quick look at the predatory mites I'm using right now. I hope you find this helpful!

Great video. How do you incorporate the mites with the spray treatments? Spray then add mites and no more spraying just more mites? Or spray again in 2-3 weeks then add more mites? I seem to have recurring problems so wondering how long you treat for. Thanks!

If you are talking about beneficial predatory mites then you would probably want to do one or the other. The treatment that she is doing will certainly kill predatory mites as well and make you waste money. Interesting question though, not sure how long you would wait to do a beneficial mite treatment after a wash down like this.

I totally forgot to mention this in the video so I’ll pin this comment, but like Sarah says, I do one or the other. I wouldn’t typically treat a plant with this severe of spider mites with predatory mites, so I would go the method shown in the video. You can repeat this process once every week or every other week until the spidermite infestation has resolved, and then I would give it about 2-3 weeks after the last treatment to introduce predatory mites to the plant. I also will usually will give it one last wash down to remove any insecticide on the surface of the leaves before introducing predatory mites to it. :)

Thanks for showing what spider mite damage looks like. Those things are so tiny, you don't know they're there until you see the damage 😤

They really are! Especially if you’re dealing with larger plants, or a variegated plant like a thai constellation where it’s really hard to see them or webbing amongst the business of the variegation. I usually will only spot spidermites if I’m really taking the time to look, otherwise it’s usually once damage to the leaves are visible 😓

Always an amazing video! Sad to not see pudge, but glad he is doing better! Make sure to wear a tshirt and wash your hands before touching another plant when dealing with pests! I feel like some people forget this, but they will hook onto you and go to the next! Lol

Hey girl hey, great idea putting soap directly on leaves dry, I have not seen that before but that makes sense. Would you recommend the same for Alocasia? They typically have thinner sometimes more fragile leaves than a rubber tree. Those are the ones that are more prone to spider mites during winter in my house. I like the short videos too. Sometimes I have to watch your videos in 2-3 sittings to get your whole video, but I'm in it for the 20-40min videos. I'm thinking those are more the sweet spot for increasing viewers. Love your content and thoroughness and I get that you have built your base on that pretense but it's ok to have the shorter ones sometimes too. Hoping the best for your little puggles.

Hi Sarah! I have done the dry soap method on anthuriums before and haven't had any issues- but I don't really have any anthuriums that are super delicate to be honest. My philodendron leaves are much thinner so I find myself being a bit more careful with them vs anthuriums. :) Also thank you for the input with the video length suggestions! I have a hard time sitting through videos myself and usually just have them playing in the background, but since I'll be moving to a 2 video format in February I'll definitely need to shorten a few OR find a way to make days longer than 24 hours which I don't think is possible 😆

Hey girl, thanks for another great video, i'm sure this will come in handy someday. I'm sending this to my partner's uncle, we stayed at his place during the holidays and his jade plant was covered with spidermites! I have to figure out how to send him some Koppert bugs. Been using them for a year now and they've been great! i love seeing them walking around my plants. But, seriously, can we talk about the sweatshshirt?!

Oh no. Please don’t throw it. If you can post on Facebook and ask if anyone wants for free. Or see if there is a plant rescue. Of course once it has no spider mites. I have seen people post rescue plants on FB Marketplace and they have been rescued there. Thanks for tips.
