In today's busy world of "productivity" and "hustle culture" its becoming ever more difficult to keep organised and find balance. As a busy worker with a 9-5 job and content creator on the side, I've endured my own challenges within this area, however one particularly philosophy has really helped me to reevaluate this productivity problem - that being essentialism.
I want to share my experiences of how adopting a slow living lifestyle and essentialist mindset has helped me to remain organised, find balance and re-define productivity in my life.
I hope you enjoy and find some of these tips useful! Let me know your thoughts on this topic in the comments below!😊

SATAY SALMON SALAD
(serves approx 2-3)
Salad Ingredients
-1/2 red cabbage (shredded)
-2 carrots (grated or spiralized)
-100g/two nests of rice noodles
-2 spring onions
-small bunch of fresh parsley or coriander
-(mixed seeds, toasted nuts and extra parsley/coriander for garnish)
Dressing Ingredients
-4 tbsp soy sauce
-1 tbsp peanut butter
-2 tbsp honey
-1 tbsp sriracha
-1/2 of a lemon's juice
- 1 tsp garlic salt (or 1-2 cloves of minced fresh garlic)
- 1 tsp of sesame oil
Salmon Ingredients
-1 large salmon fillet diced (or 2 small)
-1 tsp curry powder
-generous drizzle of honey (approx 1-2tbsp)
-1/2 of a lemon's juice
-pinch of salt
1. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees C and line a baking tray with tin foil.
2. Place the diced salmon in a small bowl and mix with the marinade ingredients until well combined. Set aside and leave to infuse.
3. Meanwhile add the rice noodles to a bowl with boiling water and allow to soften for 5-8 minutes.
4. Drain the rice noodles and run under cold water. Chop up roughly with scissors to make the noodles smaller (for ease of eating!)
6. Place the marinaded salmon cubes on the lined baking tray and cook for 10-12 minutes until the salmon is sticky and charred.
5. Meanwhile, finely dice/shred all the veggies to the desired size and place together in a large mixing bowl.
6. Add in the rice noodles.
7. Mix together in a separate bowl the dressing ingredients until well combined - if a bit thick loosen with some cold water.
8. Remove the cooked salmon from the oven and allow to cool slightly before adding the mixing bowl with the rest of the ingredients.
9. Add the dressing to the salad and mix well with tongues until everything is well coated.
10. Add in fresh parsley or coriander.
11. Serve with some toasted nuts and seeds and extra parsley for garnish, then tuck in and enjoy! 😋
12. Will keep well in the fridge for 3-4 day so makes the perfect meal prep.

Holly I am also very old school about writing things down daily and some how seeing things on paper helps me create a plan that works for me also having a pretty simple life is easier to manage …there was a time when my life was extremely busy and I remember always feeling like I was hurrying everywhere and never really enjoyed what I was doing because it seemed to always have a certain amount of stress that was always present…I don’t live that way anymore and while there’s times that my life feels a little boring I still don’t miss feeling like there isn’t enough time in the day to have a quiet moment of peace….I believe there’s a balance in all this and I wish everyone the best of luck finding it …mainly people that have children because as a parent you should be the very best version of yourself and stress can make that very hard to do…

Sometimes, you feel busy and you can't help but just be busy and overwhelmed. Then, if you don't have much to do, you don't feel like doing things. It's weird, how in life you either are too busy to think or don't feel like doing things when you have lots of downtime. I guess, you just create the avenue and the path to success, because otherwise it might not happen on its own. There are so many lessons to learn, so you have to learn all of that, too. Hopefully, we'll all reach that stage where we can do what we've been dreaming of doing.

Sometimes, we pay the price of being overproductive. It costs us other aspects of our lives. We seriously need to prioritise leisure.
@PromisingPod
@PromisingPod 2 күн бұрын
@@SuperSiddhu Yes, it feels like I've spent years sacrificing leisure to pursue getting ahead in life with work. It just takes too long to succeed, sometimes. But, sometimes I wish I had done more leisure, when you realize the work did not give you enough money. That's the problem. It's not guaranteed that effort will equal success. We all try our best, however.

I totally agree with you here and have been victim to this paradox many times!😅 Rest and recuperation is something we really need to learn to do from my experience for sure and takes practice to overcome this “busy” conditioning! But it’s so worth while in the end as when you start focusing on what’s important the process and rewards become abundant. Thank you for sharing this!☺️✨

feels like there’s always something that needs to get done! I’ve always struggled with that feeling. I need to get back to being ok with controlling only what I can and prioritizing what’s most important - getting the tasks out of our heads and onto paper or some physical form really helps. Thanks for the video, Holly!

You are definitely NOT a dinosaur! I’ve always kept a notebook/diary?/planner? I like the slow and thoughtful process. It’s creative. I think I think my memory and cognition is improved. Having this introspective time is essential.🐇

You took the words out of my mouth...lists written down are my go to, ticking off as I go along. The satisfaction of seeing what I had on my list, compared to what I've crossed off, is just so satisfying n rewarding. It keeps me calm in knowing not everything must be done here n now, knowing bit by bit, step by step, the list will be completed...although invariably more gets added 😅😊

Life for youth today has become very virtual, ethereal. It is as if their lives are lived out on social media- everything has been replaced by a digital representation- for example products purchased on Amazon, digital friends, social media, video games, streaming services, and so on. Holly, I also want to take a step back to look at a bigger picture: how did we get to living life this way? Who determines the right or wrong way to live? Why must we follow the dictates of our society? Or any other for that matter? I appreciate all your tips, some will work, others won’t, but better to have some tools in the toolbox rather than not. Btw, I Love philosophy on this channel! That’s what drew me here!

Others are NOT you. I humbly suggest that you already know how you want to live your life. But societies influences are difficult for you to become autonomous. This 'others' exposure soon becomes contagious and habitual , automatic ( non conscious), but just little steps to make a change slowly move us to a better existence. But there has to be a first step, then another and another. Sorry, had to say this.

I totally agree with you. I tried all of those on line tech organizers etc. Forget them, pen and paper in hand in my journal/diary/notebook is priceless. I always indulge myself in a very nice one that is pleasant to touch and feel and keep my organized. Will go to the store tomorrow and buy ingredients to make this dish. Will make the following day. Need a change up from the same old same old dishes. Thank you.!

I totally agree with you on using pen and paper, it just makes things easier to remember and you can pick up your list any moment you want to. My to-do list contains everything I think of as something that needs to be done so it is awfully long. But I’m in the luxurious position of not having a job so I don’t need to stress about it as I will always have time to do it tomorrow 😅.

I love having a physical dairy too. I try many digital options in the past and I never like it. One day, I bought a tablet that comes with a pen and found out that you can write there just as if you were writing in paper. That's what I use now, and I love it because I don't have to waste paper and still feel like I'm writing by hand. Anyway, I love your videos!

Yaaay a new Holly video! :-) beautiful video Holly, it always surprises me how organised you are, I feel like without a literal to-do list things can easily slip my mind. That salmon dish looks amazing! I never thought about cooking salmon like that, I've pan fried it, steamed it, but haven't tried it oven baked. I used to love steaming it with chopped up carrots, broccoli or asparagus, with salt & pepper, lemon, as well as adding chopped up tomatoes. It's interesting you keep talking about "calm amidst the chaos" because my unofficial artist name is Peace In The Chaos, and I'm currently learning how to make 140bpm UK Dubstep, from around 2010. Which of course makes me think of you Holly, because you're from the UK :-)

Thank you Stephen, so glad you enjoyed this!☺️ Sounds delicious and the perfect recipe to trial Timmy’s first few toms! I’ll have to give it a go😋 Sounds cool! I wish you the best luck with it as it’s not an easy skill at all! Wishing you all the best and for a great week ahead🫶✨

@lagomholly Thanks so much Holly! :-) yes I did enjoy it, I didn't quite notice the first time, but upon closer inspection Timmy has some decent sized toms growing on him already! Lol, you must be taking good care of him. Yes steamed fish and steamed veggies is a wonderful mix, I had bought a new steamer at the time and was just steaming everything lol. Music production can be very complex sometimes, but it's so beautiful once you know how, there's so much to learn to become really good at it. Thank you Holly, wishing you all the best and hope you have a great week too :-)
