Hey Eric, thanks for taking the time to create this great content. I’m currently a semester away from graduating with an associates in information technology - general studies. Currently a bartender with 15 plus years of customer service experience. Hoping to take this experience and make the leap into tech sales!

Thank you for this video. I have four years of corporate sales and technology experience at a very large CPG company, and I recently came across a CPG tech sales opportunity that would be a dream job for me. However, the position is looking for someone who has experience selling SaaS software, which I do not. I know I can close large deals as I’ve done it multiple times, just in a different environment. Any advice on how I land a position like this with my current background?

I’m currently an air traffic controller in the military an I really want to transition into tech sales but I have no sales experience. A company that sells naval ship part offered me a SDR position, would it be smart to gain some experience with them first or hold out for a tech position?

It really depends on your situation. Do you have good conversations going with tech companies right now? Does the offer provide a good salary you're comfortable with? I think it may be good to get as a starting point but pending your situation it may be better to hold out for a true tech company

Check out a few more videos on the channel but in short I would pick a type of tech you want to sell and target all of the companies in that vertical. Would you recommend career switchers go into entry level tech sales or some middle-level opportunity? Personally, I have worked in finance since college for about 4 years + a gap where I pursued entrepreneurship. Most recently, I held a director position where I actually interacted with sales a lot managing commissions calculation, review and submissions.

Great background, I think the only answer is to pursue both. Network with leaders and reps at companies you want to work at and get their feedback. I would look at Enteprise SDR roles and also SMB AE roles

Hey Eric, not sure what to do rn, I'm 17 and I know that it's the way to go for me, I have 1 year of sales experience (Cold Calling, emails, facebook, linkedin outreach), but I'm not a fan of going to college, cause the job posts I see daily on linkedin dont require any degree. If a business degree makes that much easier to break in I'll do it but is it really worth the 3 years? Or can I apply while going to college? Thank you for your insight!
@techsales-higherlevels
@techsales-higherlevels Жыл бұрын
If you're set on sales and not interested in a STEM degree it could be a good path for you. That being said if there is a subject in college you would enjoy, could work a sales job in parallel, and get a scholarship/affordable tuition, it might be worth hedging your bet and pursuing a degree while you try sales. What kind of college would you go to if you did go?
@philippbraun1773
@philippbraun1773 Жыл бұрын
@@techsales-higherlevels First, thanks for answering, I really appreciate it, haven't really thought about it too much yet, but referring to what I found out studying remotely is suitable for working on the side and is usually a lot cheaper than going to college physically. What I've thought about is doing and apprenticeship at a company that isnt necessarily tech related. I browse through a lot of different BDR/SDR job posts and if the roles have that type of requirements, it's usually either a bachelors degree OR a completed apprenticeship. And while I'm even getting paid for the apprenticeship and collect experiences in customer communication, I could connect with different recruiters and expand my network, so that after 2 years it would be easier to get into the tech companies, at least that's how it could work in my head lol. What do you think about doing an apprenticeship instead of getting a degree before going into tech sales?
@techsales-higherlevels
@techsales-higherlevels Жыл бұрын
@@philippbraun1773 If you get a relevant apprenticeship it could help build your resume towards it. I would just encourage you to use this time to explore a lot of options in depth. It doesn't have to be one or the other. As mentioned you could get an apprenticeship and study online, or you could go to college and sell cars, retail, solar, etc... to pay for tuition while building out the skillset. Use the time you have before graduating to really explore all the options and maybe even start by picking up a retail sales job in the meantime, etc...
@philippbraun1773
@philippbraun1773 Жыл бұрын
@@techsales-higherlevels so you would go the college route if I understand that correctly? Either full or part time... So if you would have the choice you would prefer getting a degree rather than only getting an apprenticeship, or trying to break into tech sales with 18
@techsales-higherlevels
@techsales-higherlevels Жыл бұрын
@@philippbraun1773 no, re read my message. My point is you have time to explore all of these options before you graduate. So if you are actually making money before you graduate and you have a path to not need college then great, but if you're not in a sales job already or not one that allows you to support yourself then I would hedge your bet and work sales jobs while you go to college. If you get good enough to where you don't need to keep going to college then you can make that decision. That was the entire point of my last message. You don't make these decisions by just deciding, get experience now and put yourself out there and the path will become more clear wherever it goes.

@@techsales-higherlevels Ive been an engineer for a while and have successfully ran some contracting companies. But found it hard to scale because I didnt have a good sales pipeline. Unfortunately Im starting over, and looking to get into the health space since the limited amount of business prospecting shows lots of potential. Im thinking of starting out as a broker for these specialized experts and then taking the talent in house. A lot of it is compliance work. I understand the tech, but not the compliance side. So Im wondering if I do that, or just work for someone else as sales since thats what Im most interested in. Owning a company is the most fulfilling for me.
