Love the video and ur channel. I’ve never been a tech or master tech at that, but have been a weekend tech on my personal cars and only buy used ones. The past few years, I have only bought high mileage cars. My wife and other close family think I’m nuts and refer to them as “Dave specials” !! Anyhow, most of my high mileage cars have had have been reliable, and the previous owners have serviced them religiously or are cars that are bullet proof. I’ve bought a few older 20 year and 15 year old Camry’s, ‘03 Tahoe (my favorite), ‘97 Bmw 528i with 250k on it, (the worst bmw I’ve ever owned cause it was never serviced by Previous owner). The one that I miss the most was one that you made me a Mercedes believer with. I had to sell it last year after owning it for 6 months. It was a mint to me ‘92 Benz 300e coupe w124 platform. It only had two owners and 170k miles. Everything worked and it just needed struts and quarters recleared. It was a beautiful, solid car. I’ll eventually look for another in the future. Keep on wrenching !!

Noobmaster69 i agree with you, subtle mods are the best. I was referring to sneaky 86. I think he sees the bumpers and exhaust and such and thinks they are aftermarket mods. The wheels look horrible on this car, maybe im to much of a purist but the stock wheels look the best on an e39 m5. Maybe a muffler delete with original tips, because then the sound really comes to life!

Hell yea man. I totally agree. Crazy mileage stuff is super cool. On the topic of Wheel Bearings, recently picked up a 15 Maxima for the wife with 215xxxmi, and it still had all original wheel bearings on it. Im in CT and original owner worked in NYC. Drove down 6 days a week. Plus a bunch of cross country trips. Car has 222xxx now, and just replaced the fronts..... I couldnt believe how good they still looked. One was just starting to hum, but neither had any discoloration, all the faces and races were fine. It probably could've went another 20k. I was really impressed that the original front shocks still werent blown out. NYC everyday for 4 years! Its soo cool to have vehicles with a story....My work 95 7.3 Powerstroke, 5spd. dually, 4x4 has over 330xxx mi! All original engine, but did crack the bell housing and case plowing a few years ago.

I found and bought the E39 M5 in this video. It’s currently at 431,000 miles and is my wife’s daily driver. I knew the car when it was purchased new at Grayson BMW in Knoxville Tennessee, and I knew the original owner and saw the car on a regular basis when I’d go to the Sunspot, one of the restaurants the original owner owned. This E39 M5 was a bit of a dream car for me back then, but now my wife and I both drive Carbon black e39 M5’s. I tracked this car down in Las Vegas, messaged the owner at the time, and we made a deal on it. I own and operate a small automotive repair shop in East Tennessee, so when the car arrived from shipping I took it to the shop and made a bunch of needed repairs. Currently it has no cel’s and runs and drives flawlessly. My wife drives this car every day and we plan on shooting for a million miles. EAG ( European Auto Garage) of Knoxville Tennessee did a ton of good work on this car and really deserve a lot of the credit for keeping this car alive when it could’ve gone to the junk yard. Randy Burleson, European Auto Garage, Alex Arias, Mikhail Epelev, Legit Street Cars, Alex Kermani, along with myself, are the reason this car has gotten all the love it takes to keep it alive and well. The story of this car is still being written.

Did note exhaust is two separate 2.25in lines that restrict into a 2in and then step up into a 3 in system right before it exits, I'm thinking a short throw shifter and new linkage as well as after cat cutouts to reduce back pressure down the road.

I love my '98 e39 540i/6. I got it as an abandoned car from a lot that went under, so... free, essentially. Put about $3k into getting it running/licensed/registered (someone had managed to strip parts off it while it sat for 3 years) and replaced a few cosmetic parts that were broken and new Pilot Super Sports. Since registration/smog is coming due again, I decided this time to have the timing chains and guides replaced to address part of an oil leak (she has 180k miles) as well as some door lock issues which is about another $3k. So, ~$6k in total for a well sorted car that I am absolutely in love with seems like a bargain to me. Part of those costs were upgrades such as front/rear BlackVue dash cams and Dynavin N7 head unit. The timing chain guides were in decent shape and was told they looked original. The clips were broken and the chain was stretched, but all-in-all they were still good for a few more miles. I wanted to get them changed for the peace of mind. My e39 was traded in by the original owner at Livermore Audi then sold at auction. Some local dealer picked it up but couldn't get it to start because of a fault. The shop they took it to couldn't figure it out, so the car sat. In that time the used lot went out of business and the car just sat. One day, my brother goes to a BMW mechanic seminar or something and the guy that had the car asks if my brother wanted it. My brother has a '03 e39 540i MSport Auto. My brother said sure then asked if I wanted it. All I had to do was the lien sale paperwork. So, technically I am the third owner since the out-of-business car dealer never registered it and the last reported owner was Livermore Audi who sold it at auction.

Oh that is actually a really good buy. Very good story. I'm a big BMW / Audi / Porsche guy, and I have had many E36 and E39 because they are kind of the last analog car, and they are just a blast to drive. I have got them for free, I have rebuilt them, put new heads on them, new engines, and love all of it. My wife is driving a free E39 I was given. I drive an E36 325is manual transmission, and a E53 4.4i for parts runs. Never owned an M5... might just get into that.

I have a 70k mile e34 and it was repainted a while ago. Mileage and paint quality really have no correlation because if you really care for your car you can have 400k paint that looks brand new
@Finnspin_unicycles
@Finnspin_unicycles 5 жыл бұрын
@@benr4677 Well, rockchips etc. definetely multiply with mileage.. But I see your point. What I was getting at is: if you buy a car as a collection item, I understand that never being repainted is a bonus. A 400k car, you don't buy for your collection, you buy it to use it.

@@ZHGAmingAllTheWay I guess for most people i know. Having a high mile good body with a replaced power train or at least motor alone is a go to for cheap semi reliable vehicles. I myself was happy to hear my DD had a motor with 60k less than the body. As long as there is proof everything was done properly its not a bad thing.

I would have gone for a 2001-2003 model. The first year of the facelift model isn't usually as reliable because there are design and manufacturing kinks to work out. Unless your car was made towards the end of the model year run. The reliability should be a little better.

I have a e63 M6. People have a lot to say about the V10 models but mine has been really good so far. Yes i have to keep bottles of 10w-60 super car oil in my trunk but it’s well worth it. I’ve done a total of $1000 in maintenance in a year but it isn’t bad for a car of that caliber. I love my car but will be selling it soon for a i8. Which may be a different story mechanically wise but I’ll find out :)

I had an e28 524td that had over 400k on it. I put 300k on it before selling it. Lost track of it. It still had the original engine, trans and all 4 wheel bearings, plus even the original AC compressor . Several alternators, water pumps and a radiator replaced .

The one car I miss more than anything. Hell my profile pic was in it. I ran that thing for 187,000 miles most dependable and reliable car I've ever owned and I got ON IT all the time. Still factory clutch when I had to trade it because my left knee is so jacked I couldn't painlessly operate the clutch anymore. :-( God I miss it every day. E39 M5s are freaking amazing.
