A lot of players are ahead of Kareem. Kareem was a great center in his prime but he was never a great all around basketball player. Same goes with MJ. Too many MJ-tards that give him credit he doesn't deserve. Multiple players that were better shooters, rebounders and passers than MJ. Sorry but fact is fact

@donnelladams3404 жыл бұрын
@@brianreed1859 Mike was a SHOOTING GUARD and he accomplished more individually than most players. Passing is important but the objective is to put the ball in the basket and Jordan was extremely great at that hints his 10 scoring titles. Isiah was a point guard so his job was to get everyone involved so basically Isiah was the quarterback on the court. Mike was one of the best defensive players hints his steals titles. Rebounding is mostly a forward or center because they are under the basket. Do you think kobe had more rebounds than Tim Duncan no because kobe was a guard the same with Jordan. Scottie and Dennis being the forwards were playing under the basket the same with LeBron. It's only right for forwards and centers to have more rebounds than guards.

@yvanazastrasz90134 жыл бұрын
Hmmmmm… If you're talking about achievements and longevity, as well as dominating in such a fashion that others look silly next to him, then I'm afraid he isn't the Goat for ALL sports. For basketball, yes, no shadow of a doubt, not even open for debate. However, you might want to research a couple of other sportsmen : Efren Reyes and Ronnie O'Sullivan for example. I'd advise to have a look into Roger Federer too. You might want to get more info about a certain "Babe Ruth" as well. You could research Sergei Bubka while you're at it. And I know that I know only very little about a LOT of sports.
@heyglasses4 жыл бұрын
@@yvanazastrasz9013 I actually have played a lot of snooker and pool myself and know ronnie o'sullivan and heard a bit about efren reyes. It's a shame that hardly anyone would know them and they are both very debatable about being GOAT for there sports. I actually love watching ronnie but he has been inconsistent during his career. Ive also played and watched a lot of tennis and Roger Federer as great as he was and even after breaking the grand slam records was never as dominating as MJ because either Nadal or Djokovic were at time even better than he was. All I'm saying is MJ was huge in the 80's and 90's. HUGE. Much larger than anyone had ever been. Everybody knew him even people who werent into sports. Iverson calls him God. After 20-30 years many still know of him. Plus even before he started playing NBA the US olympic coach called him GOAT. He was of GOAT status very early in his career. No other sports star was talked about being GOAT so early in there career. The only other name that might rival MJ in terms of recognition and popularity around the world would be mohammed ali. He also never dominated his sport like MJ even though he did some miracolous things and during his prime was lightning fast for a heavyweight. Also playoff and finals is where stats count against good opposition and MJ's stats here plus his 6 out of 6 MVP's are just amazing.
@yvanazastrasz90134 жыл бұрын
":The only other name that might rival MJ in terms of recognition and popularity around the world would be mohammed ali." You do realize that this is 100% subjective due to media coverage right ? However, I will agree that if you're talking about "public aura" in terms of worldwide recognition... then MJ is "The Man". " It's a shame that hardly anyone would know them and they are both very debatable about being GOAT for there sports." Hmmmmm… We'll have to agree to disagree here I'm afraid. You're the very first pool player (and I've been playing pool for 3 decades now) who would argue that Ronnie is NOT the Goat for snooker. Quite curious who you would put there if not him. The only one even remotely close would be Stephen Hendry, and despite I am very biased FOR Hendry (hardcore fan of the man since I first saw him on tv) there's no way I can put him ahead of Ronnie.
@heyglasses4 жыл бұрын
@@yvanazastrasz9013 Yes of course its subjective but I'm an observant person who's lived through this era. I also come from an ethnic background and am quite certain MJ was globally a superstar. Last year i was playing poker tournament in sydney aust. and the GOAT topic came up. I said not everybody on the table would know of LBJ but everybody would now MJ. Guess what, everyone has heard of MJ but a few had not ever heard of Lebron. I never said ronnie wasnt GOAT, actually i agree that his the GOAT of snooker. But i didnt think there was a huge concensus on this as he has been inconsistent at times. When it comes to GOAT of all sports i think so many aspects needs to be included whilst making judgement. MJ was almost a 10 at everything on and off the court. I dont believe in magic as its tricks but in mylifetime to closest thing ive ever seen to supernatural is MJ superhuman being.
@yvanazastrasz90134 жыл бұрын
I'm actually quite surprised about several people not having heard of LBJ... To be really honest, I think there is TOO MUCH noise around LBJ, and he shouldn't even be considered in the discussion for Goat at all. I'll give only one reason, but for me it's enough to disqualify him now and forever : HE said it of HIMSELF. Who the f*** is such an egocentric AH to be able to proclaim themselves the Goat ?... Goat is a title that can NEVER be taken. It MUST be given. Humility is usually one of the first qualities of a great player. And it definitely has to be a major quality of The Greatest. Kobe, Larry or Kareem all have a way closer shot at the discussion than LBJ ever will. Let me think about "supernatural" for a bit. I might be able to come up with other feats :)

Kareem seems to have become the go-to pick for anyone looking to stir the pot in the NBA GOAT discussion. But nobody was saying anything like that while he was still playing at the end of the 1980s. Even casual research into that era will tell you that the Lakers were actually very eager for Kareem to retire because the rest of the team was tired of him slowing them down in transition. Yes Kareem won 6 NBA titles, but 5 of them were far more attributable to Magic Johnson than anyone else. Michael Jordan is the greatest player in NBA history by a wide margin. And the fact that people continue to include Lebron in that discussion is a tremendous insult to players like Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, and Kobe Bryant (RIP).

He ran a 4.4 40 yard dash, won the Big 8 high jump title without even practicing it, and signed to fight the World Heavyweight champion. If these modern athletes are so great with their new training, why was it that Wilt could average 48.3 minutes a game in a 48 min. pro game for a whole season.
@genebull38374 жыл бұрын
No, he didn't compete in track in high school. He just did that one time in College on a lark and won the Big 8 high jump with a height of 6' 6" He was reportedly playing in a pro basketball league during the summers of his high school career averaging over 50 pts. a game under an assumed name.

Thank you for acknowledging this. I thought I was the only one who noticed this. Basically people got tired of Jordan being referred to as the GOAT. So they tried to find another GOAT. >Kareem is the immediate go-to for fans. Because, similar to Jordan, he excelled in many aspects of the game (rings, stats, records, and dominating on both ends of the floor). But Kareem did these things at different times. >Kareem of the 70s had the stats and the domination. Kareem of the 80s had the rings and records. >From 87-98, Jordan excelled in all of those things.

Abdul-Jabbar was an absolute beast in his prime and was like Jordan in that he could win the game for his team by himself, so who knows. Easy: he got swept by the Bulls, took a while to digest that and then started praising Jordan everywhere so as to add value to his own team, like, we got swept but by the greatest player of all-time so it's not that bad. Then the jealousy brewed more and more inside his seemingly small mind and he veered towards other narratives like well KAJ never lost in college, how can you go against Lebron right now.

That's why I love Isaiah Thomas or Bill Laimbeer. They give credit to other NBA legends or they understand something : you can change on a given subject as you're aging... Like their list of the GOAT. As long as they are able to explain their choices. But, I think it's futile to compare players from an era to another or a position to another. Isiah Thomas is one jealous dude. The fact that Jordan has never once had to insert his name in the best ever debate says it all. LeBron is not always even in the debate. And the fact that Jordan's response when asked if he's the greatest is he doesn't know because he never got to play with some of the greats before him just makes him that much better IMO. LeBron actually declared himself the greatest after he won a ring in Cleveland. He's great, no doubt, and has been for a long time. But there are a lot of years during his prime that he wasn't even a consensus pick as the best player in the league. Always close, but not the consensus. Jordan? never any question. They gave the league MVP one year to Malone simply because I think they felt sorry for him having to play during the Jordan years. Jordan responded by destroying the Jazz in the finals and relegating Malone's MVP trophy to a nice 2nd place participation trophy. I do agree about Kareem though. I think he's probably just below Jordan in the best ever debate.

Jordan is not the goat period. Its bill Russell, Kareem, or wilt chamberlin. Jordan will get destroyed by them🤣
@patrickjaegers31104 жыл бұрын
@@kyrieirving539 Well you certainly have a valid argument with the players you listed. Personally, I don't think Bill Russell or Wilt quite topple Jordan as the best ever. Bill was a championship monger no doubt, but there were far fewer teams in the league then, and he didn't dominate the stat book like a true GOAT like the other players you mentioned did. Someone like Oscar Robertson who averaged a triple double for an entire season would probably have my vote over Russell. But I say that with an extreme amount of respect to Bill Russell, as I do think of him as one of the truly great players of all time. IMO, Wilt Chamberlain is the best athlete the world has ever seen, not just as a basketball player in the NBA, but overall athleticism. But he wasn't mentally as tough as others, and didn't enforce his will as much as he could have to win more championships. His motor skills were also quite a bit lower than some of the giants that have come since him, including Kareem. With Kareem, I have a much harder time arguing with you on this one. He was probably the most dominant college player ever. (With a nod to Wilt, Bill Walton, and Pistol Pete as others in that discussion.) They literally outlawed the dunk while he played to take away the advantages he had over other players, and his 3 years on the varsity team with only 2 losses is legendary (one of those games he played with a scratched cornea, and they lost by 2 to Houston. When they replayed in the NCAA tournament and Kareem was healthy, they won by over 30. The only other loss was when the other team did a stall tactic the whole game since there was no shot clock back then.) And then in the pros, he had the single most un-defendable shot the game has ever seen with his sky hook (Although Wilt did actually block it a couple times, showing what a freak of nature he was.) And to play as long as he did at such a high level and still have the scoring record today while playing 4 years of his prime in college, unlike today's superstars who just play one year (or in Lebron's case played zero years in college), it just makes that record more impressive. I still like Jordan as the GOAT in the NBA, but it's not as clear cut as I'd like to think the more I think about Kareem. When you look at Kareem's entire life of basketball including his youth and before college, I'd have to give it to him. Looking at the NBA only, I'd give a slight nod to Jordan.

Honorable mention Bill Russell - 11 championships, 1 as a player/coach. 2nd in alltime rebounds and blocks. -Hakeem 2 championships,could do it All. -Magic Johnson 5 championships, of career would not have been cut short, would be the Alltime assist leader. #1.Wilt Chamberlain - could play in any era. @JayMotell3 жыл бұрын
Pretty simple actually. Isiah changed his mind after thinking about it and researching it. Kareem had a better overall career when you take into account high school as a separate entity, college as a separate entity, and the NBA as a separate entity. Jordan did not make his high school varsity team as a sophomore. For his two years on varsity, Jordan averaged 25.4 points, 12 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game. As a senior, he lead his team to a 19-4 record. But they didn’t win a state championship, losing to New Hanover 56-52, in the conference championship game. LeBron in high school averaged 21 points a game as a freshman and lead his school to an undefeated State Title. They repeated as State Champions the next year and finished with only one loss, James averaging 25.2 points and 7.2 rebounds with 5.8 assists and 3.8 steals per game. As a Junior, he averaged 29 points, 8.3 rebounds, 5.7 assists, and 3.3 steals per game, but his team lost 4 games including the State Championship game. As a Senior his team traveled all around the country to play the best teams and James averaged 31.6 points, 9.6 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 3.4 steals per game. His team only lost one game (actually a forfeit) and went in to win the State Championship (D-2 that year... his previous two were playing D-3). James did this under amazing scrutiny, exposure, and pressure that no 15-18 year old basketball player ever had to go through. Kareem finished his high school career with a 79-2 record. His team won the National High School championship when Kareem was a sophomore and Junior (losing in the game as a senior, the same year his head coach called him the n word). It is no comparison really. In terms of High School careers, it goes Kareem, James, and Jordan a VERY distant third on that list. In college, obviously James didn’t play, so he is third between the three. And despite Jordan winning a National Championship as a freshman, reaching the Elite Eight the next year, and Sweet 16 as a Junior, he can’t compete to Kareem’s college year. Overall, in his three years, Jordan averaged 17.7 ppg on 54.0% shooting, with 5.0 rpg. Kareem won three National Championships and would have probably won four if freshmen were allowed to play. He only lost 2 games in three years of college (one he had an eye injury and the other was when the other team just stalled before the shot clock was invented). The NCAAs outlawed the dunk in college basketball because of Kareem (and it lasted until 1976). He averaged 26.2 points a game in college. So again, without question and not being close at all, Kareem had the better collegiate career. Comparing the three in terms of their international accompaniments is not fair because James and Jordan both won Gold Medals as professional athletes, something Kareem could not do, but it is worth mentioning that Jordan did win a gold in 1984. Kareem did not accept an invitation to the 1968 Olympic team as a Civil Rights protest. And it also should be noted that James was part of perhaps the biggest disappointment in USA Basketball, as his team won the Bronze Medal in the 2004 Olympics. In the pros: Kareem has 6 championships Jordan has 6 championships James has 4 championships Kareem had 6 MVPs Jordan 5 James 4 Kareem was a 19 Time All Star James 16 Jordan 14 Kareem made 11 All Defensive Teams Jordan 9 James 6 Jordan has 10 Scoring Titles Kareem 2 James 1 Jordan has 6 Finals MVPs James 4 Kareem 2 Kareem has 4 Block Titles, one Rebounding Title, and one Field Goal Percentage Title. Jordan has 3 Steals Titles and 2 Minutes Played Titles. James has 1 Assist Title and 3 Minutes Played Titles. Jordan won Defensive Player of the year once. Overall, James is averaging 27.1 points on 50.4% shooting (73.4% from the line), 7.4 rebounds, 7.4 assists, 1.6 steals, and .8 blocks in 1268 career games. He made the Finals 10 times (4-6 record). Jordan averaged 30.1 points on 49.7% shooting (83.5% from the line), 6.2 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 2.3 steals, .8 blocks in 1072 games. He made the Finals 6 Times (6-0). Kareem averaged 24.6 points on 55.9% shooting (72.1% from the line), 11.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists, .9 steals, 2.7 blocks in 1560 games. He made the Finals 10 times (6-4). Overall (high school, college, and the Pros put together) between the three, the answer has got to be Kareem as the GOAT. Just comparing their NBA careers, that is far tougher.

Isiah didn't organize the freezeout because Jordan was more popular in Chicago. Magic and Bird organized organized the freeze out because Jordan refused to wear the All-Star warm up. He wore his Nike warm up and they believed he was putting himself and Nike above the rest of the league. Isiah was the point guard so he controlled the ball, and he agreed to do it, but MJ, Larry, & Magic have confirmed this.
