Besides Isiah, there were other legends that were left off the Dream Team that should have been considered. Moses Malone was old but was the best center of the first half of the 80s. 'Nique, Kevin McHale, and James Worthy were already Hall-of-Fame legends by 1992. Olajuwon had come out of the 80s as the best center, but wasn't even mentioned because he was not yet a US Citizen.

MJ has been telling people since day one what happened. Every time he says: “it was a higher up decision” and no one looks higher up. Look up Isiah’s off the court activism and look at what he did with players union and getting better pay for the mid to low tier players in the mid-80s to early 90s. It came down from the commissioner based on the image he wanted to project around the world. Isiah didn’t fit that image.

So the Dream Team wasn't the best, it was simply the players who liked each other and said nice things about each other? Let's see -- Larry Bird (one of the biggest trash talkers); Charles Barkley (pretty nasty himself physically and verbally); Karl Malone (not exactly afraid of contact, intimidation or starting a fight); Chris Mullin (why is he even there); Christian Laettner (a nightmare, not a dream); and Patrick Ewing (never won anything). Isiah deserved to be there and was screwed. This was supposed to be the best team, not the friendliest or the most polite.

Isiah did not make the dream team because the controversy he generates over the years prior to 1991 when the team members were selected, he was a fierce competitor and an incredible point guard, but his mouth and his actions did cause damage to others and himself, it's sad seeing a great player get booed by other great players, he deserve it, but the things he said and done it makes the difference... The only thing I really can thank to Isiah and the Pistons is that without them, we never have the player that Jordan was in the 90's. The Pistons were the blacksmith, and Jordan was the steel who ruled those years, and literally slaying every team he face.

McHale shook Isiah's hand after 88 and said his "Beat LA" shit to him. Wasn't exactly the same. Plus, Pistons played dirty as fuck in 88, the Bulls didn't when they swept Detroit in 91. Pistons were just over the hill by 91 and were forced to take a sweep. I'm a Laker fan and we were Chicago's next victims, 5 games, so we have a shared sorrow if you were a Pistons fan in 91. A sweep is very hard to swallow for a team that won two titles in prior years. You build up a lot of pride and hubris for two years and then it all goes poof in 4 gms. Again, I know that cus I was a Laker fan in 89 and it was hard to stomach getting swept by Detroit especially because Magic and Scott pulled hamstrings and were out. Just like Detroit, those Lakers were trying for a 3peat. I'm far from a Celtic/Bulls/OR Pistons fan, but all hoops fans and players know the sting of defeat. The 80s Celtics were dirty as fuck, too, I will give Detroit that much. Celts hardly had ground to complain about Laimbeer taking out Bird after McHale clotheslined Rambis in 84 and Greg Kite shoved Worthy midair in 87, just a year before. And not only that, but they still celebrate the Rambis one as a momentum changing play and KC Jones downplayed the Worthy one. They did the same shit Laimbeer did to Larry. Smelts were full of whiny bastards. Dennis Johnson and Ainge were the worst. Crying over every single call, I'm talkin 100% of the time.

I thought there were too many people who didn't want to play with Isiah. Magic, Jordan, Malone, Pippen. Barkley didn't like him but wasn't going to complain. Drexler didn't really care. So you got four against and not one advocate. So that settles it. He's off. But I never thought Scottie Pippen belonged on that team unless there actually was something wrong with Dominique Wilkins.

Bird also disliked Isiah. MJ did not CARE but went along with the rest for team chemistry reasons. When the vote among the 3 UNTOUCHABLE picks (Magic, Bird, MJ) are 2 AGAINST and one ABSTAIN, you have no prayer of making the team no matter how good you were. Dominique WAS hurt at the time, no chance to be healthy at the time - and probably would have beaten Mullin out not Pippen given Pippen's fantastic defense AND Scotty being used to playing with MJ.

@Jatycre
@Jatycre 4 жыл бұрын
It was right to leave him off for two reasons. 1. He wouldn’t have gel’d with the team. Mike didn’t like him, Magic was pissed at him for good reasons, Bird didn’t like him, and yeah, Scottie hates him. If you know virtually your ENTIRE starting squad don’t like the guy, you don’t play him, period. No matter how great he might be, teams HAVE to gel to work. Look at all the “super teams” that have gotten together to chase rings, and on paper they were obvious chip teams, but they imploded because they didn’t get along. 2. He wasn’t the best choice for the spot left. Magic was already in, and was a much better superstar Point Guard. His backup needed to be a more pure Point Guard, and Stockton was the best PURE Point Guard in the league. His playmaking abd assist skills were second to none. Even if Stockton’s injury hadn’t healed, Isiah wasn’t even selected as HIS replacement, his teammate Joe Dumars was, because THAT is what they needed in that spot, not another scoring focused superstar. I mean, Chuck Daly coaches the dream team. He was Isiah’s coach. If Isiah was REALLY that desperately needed on the team, Chuck would have pushed for him, but he didn’t, because he knew he didn’t need Isiah.

@Jatycre
@Jatycre 4 жыл бұрын
singingchef23 No one who seriously knows basketball would debate that Magic was better than Zeke. Magic was able to take his team in his back when Kareem went down injured in the finals, play a position he never had before (center), and still make sure his team WON. There’s a legit case you could make for putting Magic in the Mt Rushmore of basketball, Zeke isn’t on that level. By every metric, Magic tops Zeke. More chips, more MVPs, more all NBA team picks, more all-star picks, etc. And more than that, Magic didn’t have to encourage his team to play dirty to get his wins. Zeke encouraged his team to play dirty ball, which also puts him below Magic for me.

What other pgs would you take over Thomas because he was named one of the 50 greatest players in NBA history. Also in him and Stockton's head to head matchups, Isiah outplayed him. You can't just look at overall stats when comparing the two. Isiah was a franchise player who carried that Pistons team. He could take over a game when all else failed, whereas Stockton needed to rely on Karl Malone for the Jazz success. Stockton was a great pg, but not someone you could build around. Even Curry's career has been better than Lebron's, he's been with one team, GSW, his whole career and has as many rings as LeBron. Curry > LeBron. MJ >>>>>>> LeBron.

The John Stockton argument doesn't really work just because he had a better season that year, because Larry and Magic were there off of merit and contribution from past decade. Isiaih should've been there too, especially having the last two championships of the era. But it's not like it had to be Stockton that he should've replaced. Stockton belonged, but no he's not a better player. But if no one wanted him on the team that 's the better argument.

Dre Murf 313 right MJ couldn’t even get Walter Davis a bench player traded to the Bulls. Pip was 1X all star, 1X 2nd team all defense, 1X champ and nothing else in 1991 when Dream Team was selected so Pippen didn’t earn that team individually over Isiah But everyone keeps saying Stockton not realizing Stockton lead the nba in assists from 1988-1991, made all nba 3 times and all defense 2 times and in that time span Isiah didn’t do any of these things! Isiah did win 2 titles and have better individual accolades than Pippen during that time but not better individual accolades than Stockton. 1987 and prior Isiah had way better accolades than Stockton but Stockton wasn’t a starter before then and he wasn’t in the league. Dream team had Magic, Bird, Mullin and Jordan they could’ve played at small forward and shooting guard didn’t need Pippen. John was the only true point guard height wise on that team. And Laettner didn’t deserve it for nba but college wise he accomplished the most during that time span though I would’ve picked Shaq. Pippen made it because of Jordan I’m sure about that. I don't think it matters if Stockton had a better 90/91 season than Isiah Thomas had. It wasn't based on that season. It was based on their entire careers up to that point. Thomas was the best player on a two-time champ that dethroned the Celtics and Lakers dynasties. They also dominated the Bulls during that time. Stockton was a great player, but he wasn't even the best player on a team that never won a championship. Zeke shoud have been on the Dream Team.

@Devi Lisa Are you serious ? 1. Stockton went to small school Gonzaga, that never even made it to the NCAA tournament until 1995, while Isiah went to Indiana, where Bobby Knight was winning titles and even went undefeated a few years before Isiah even got there. 2. John Stockton won as many titles as anybody else who only played with 1 other Hall of Famer would have with their peak coinciding with Michael Jordan would have. Isiah was lucky to win his titles before Jordan's Bulls were championship ready. Notice, they got swept by the Bulls the minute Jordan got any help. 3. Again, Stockton & Malone just ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time. They were never going to be better than Magic's Lakers, Bird's Celtics, or Jordan's Bulls. Isiah, who played with 5 other All-Stars was obviously going to fare better. At the end of the day, Stockton was as good of a passer (or better), a far better shooter, a better defender, and wouldn't piss everybody on the team off. Sean was right
@FoxNewsChannelSux

@Devi Lisa I love how you're talking down on the 5 All-Stars Isiah played with. Stockton played with Mark Eaton, who was as one dimensional as it gets and after that there was no all-star help for Stockton & Malone. And yeah, Steph Curry led his team to the NCAAs. . . . AFTER they expanded the field to 64 dumb dumb. Now, they let every team in the NCAA tournament. Not back in the early '80s, when Stockton was at Gonzaga, which is why they never made a tournament until 1995. Small schools is why they had the NIT tournament And yeah, the Pistons beat the Bulls 3 straight years . . . when they had 4 All-Stars & the Bulls had none. The second Jordan played with another All-Star in Pippen, they took them to 7 games. The next year, they swept their asses I agree Isiahs' the better player overall, but Stockton was a better shooter (that's not up for debate), at least equal passer (all-time leader), defender, (all-time leader in steals). That's good enough to pick him over a guy the whole team hated and would screw up team chemistry
@FoxNewsChannelSux
@FoxNewsChannelSux 4 жыл бұрын
@Devi Lisa Dummy, they were team players, that's why their stats weren't as good when they played together. Just like Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, and Klay Thompson's best statistical seasons didn't happen when they all played together. That's what happens when a team is loaded, there's not enough basketballs to go around. You have to share the ball. 4 of those guys are in the Hall of Fame & Mark Aguirre & Bill Laimbeer were two of the best players of the '80s. Isiah had a gluttony of help in comparison to Stockton who just had Malone & Mark Eaton for most his prime And Dennis Rodman's the greatest defender & rebounder in modern history. Who cares if he's "unusual". He's the GOAT at what he does & they had him in his physical prime. And you still don't get it dumb dumb. Small schools rarely mde the NCAA tournament before it expanded to 64 teams in 1985, a year after Stockton graduated. How are you gonna compare Isiah going to one of the biggest and most successful schools in history, coached by a top 3 all-time college coach with John Stockton going to a small time school that never made the NCAA tournament until 1995?

I am a diehard Larry Bird fan and have no love whatsoever for Isiah and the Pistons. However, Would anyone draft Drexler over IT, Mullin over IT. The freeze out is Propaganda. MJ shot 2-9 and went to the free throw line twice that's 11 shots in 20 minutes and MJ was a rookie in 1985 and he is complaining about the number of shots he gets? The starting frontline were Dr. J, Bird, Moses Malone, the last 3 MVP winners each with a ring and MJ is complaining about the number of shots he had? The freeze out totally contradicts the points made in the video, if no one liked Isiah why would they listen to him about freezing out MJ? If Isiah was so unpopular wouldn't his All-Star teammates do the opposite. Lastly the Stockton vs Isiah comparison was grossly inaccurate. The selection was based on their careers not what they did in 1992. Magic wasn't even playing in 1992. Bird was almost a cripple. Bottom line Isiah has 2 rings and Stockton hadn't even been to the finals circa 1992. Mchale and Worthy were better players than Mullin.

The Pistons were cheap shots, they did extra sht after the whistle, it was intentional, on replays it was obviously intentional, they bridged players in mid air. Drexler played shooting guard FOR HIS ENTIRE CAREER, what the heck are YOU talking about listing him as a forward at all? Also, the Dream team had *12* members, not 10. Do try CHECKING what you say against FACTS before you post it in the future. There are exactly *2* players that were on the Dream Team that are known to have played multiple positions in their career - Bird as PF then moved to SF to make room for McHale as a starter, and Magic well known for having subbed for Kareem (and to a degree played every position) in ONE GAME of one Finals series due to Kareem being hurt - the scored the famed "mini sky hook" winning shot at the end of that game.

Isiah always talks about that Karl Malone collision and the '40 stitches'. He never talks about all of the hard hits that John Stockton received the prior time they played and how the Pistons bigs knocked Stockton to the ground over and over and OVER AGAIN without fouls being called. Malone was sending the same message - don't drive the basket on us - and Thomas couldn't handle having someone give him a hard foul. Crybaby. And it's low to say that Malone was the weak link on the Utah Jazz team of that era - when is a HOF player a weak link? Sour grapes.

Isiah would later say he was joking and he and Bird did a joint interview to clear the air over it. But then Isiah said something else(I can't remember what) and Bird ended up walking off the panel. And when the Pistons beat the Celtics Bird and the Celtics walked off without shaking the Pistons' hands. But I don't think Larry ever had an open beef with Isiah over anything specific like the other players so much as Larry just seems to dislike Isiah as a person in general.

Till 1991 Isiah was 5 times all nba in which three times in the first team (unlike Stockton ), the best player of the NBA finals, two-time mvp all stars game. A real leader and champion who on the way to the top swept all the top players in the NBA including Jordan, Magic and Bird. He had a strong character and was uncompromising in the way he played and his approach. Stockton did not deserve yet a place in 1991/1992, but he was already solid white player , great ball facilitator and no doubt he fit into nba authorities polictics better aiming at making other valuable stars shine in Olimpics and avoid controversy in which Thomas was goot at.

Finals MVP, 1st team all NBA 3+ Times, 2X NBA champion, All Star MVP led the league in assist at that point more times than Stockton, big shot clutch maker, ncaa champion in 81 Stockton didn't even make a Final 4. Isaiah also missed quite a few games due to recovering from a wrist surgery so his assist and games were down. Also Bird whom had a injured back had a season that didn't equal the numbers of all star James Worthy nor Dominique Wilkins whom deserved the spot more than him. Magic missed an entire season and didn't even play but they evaluated the whole career of said players selected not just a season._ _Here is something to smoke on Kevin Johnson had a all star season averaged more points, more steals, similar FT%, near equal assist with near equal parity of talent on his team in the west as Stockton. If it's buy the numbers I'm taking Johnson over Stockton as a assisting point guard with more speed, freakish athleticism, and a better record…Remember the Sun's had the second best record in the West that season behind the Portland Blazers._ _When Barkley went to the Sun's they were the second best team in the west the year before with his addition he took them over the top to the NBA finals._

You made a mistake by referencing the 1991-92 NBA season in comparing Isiah Thomas and John Stockton stats. The Dream Team was selected and the names of the players on the team came out on September 21st, 1991, before the 1991-92 season was ever played. You would need to go back and look at 1990-91, which wouldn't be a good reference point either because Isiah Thomas only played 48 games during the season due to a hand injury, and was still hurt during the playoffs in defense of the Pistons Back-to-Back NBA World Titles. Due to Isiah Thomas's leadership the Detroit Pistons from 1986-87 to 1990-91 reached 5 straight EC Finals, won 3 EC Championships in a row, and had won the 2 NBA Titles I just mentioned after completing the 1990-91 NBA season. John Stockton's Utah Jazz Lost in the 1st round in 87, 2nd round in 88, 1st round in 89, 1st round in 90, and 2nd round in 91. The Utah Jazz with Stockton and cheap shot artist Karl Malone never even sniffed a Conference Title, let alone a NBA World Title in that 5 year period. Oh, by the way, they never did win an NBA Championship. So I guess in the "Heart and Leadership" category, Isiah Thomas has John Stockton thoroughly beat when it comes down to team success before The Dream Team was selected. I'll take a World Champion any day of the week over an assist guy on an average team who got bounced out early and often in the playoffs. The issues with Magic, Jordan, and Bird is that they all got beat by Isiah Thomas and the Detroit Pistons, as The Bad Boys climbed the NBA Mountaintop, and they took it personal. They didn't like the way the Pistons played the game, so what. The Celtics were a dirty team back then, the Lakers wouldn't back down from anybody back then, and MJ, Scottie, and the rest of the baby Bulls had to take 3 years of ASS Kickings by Detroit before they finally figured it out. Don't cry about it. Detroit doesn't care if your feelings were hurt in the process. Isiah Thomas did what he had to do to make The Detroit Pistons multiple NBA World Champions, plain and simple. If he rubbed those guys the wrong way, so be it, that's their problem. Isiah Thomas isn't going to apologize for doing anything it took to win Championships for Detroit. Was Isiah complaining after a playoff loss to the Celtics? no. He was dejected at himself for throwing the ball away, he took on the responsibility to get better. When Detroit beat Boston in 88 to reach the NBA Finals, the Celtics starters walked off the floor while Detroit is shooting free throws and the game is still going on. Did Isiah Thomas and the Pistons complain about that? no. They put it in their memory bank. When Detroit did the same thing to Chicago 3 years later in walking off the court after defeat, MJ, Scottie, Phil, Chicago, the rest of the country was all up in arms about it because the negative picture had already been painted against Detroit by MJ, Scottie, and Phil. They would cry FOUL to the media. At the end of the day it was all political in leaving Isiah Thomas off The Dream Team. If it was based off of merit, accomplishments, body of work, stats, individual and team success, I think that is how MJ, Magic, and Bird got selected, then Isiah Thomas hands down is selected to play on The Dream Team. Isiah is in the top four that should have been called and invited to play. PERIOD!!

It was never f'n right to leave Isaiah a two time champion off the Dream Team Barkley spit on a fan actually missed and hit a little innocent girl, at this point he never got to the finals along with Stockton and Malone and you mean to tell me Zeke was not allowed on the team?! Blasphemy. I'm so glad Spider Sally told the truth that Michael wasn't the reason but it was actually Magic

Jason Borne , did you ignore the team chemistry argument that Sean was presenting? The point of the ‘92 USA team was to guarantee the gold medal. Thomas was a massive risk factor to that.

@@michaelcollins966 the sad part is you actually believe that. Look Larry was like 50 percent healthy due to his back pain they didn't need him to be Larry Legend and they still managed to blow out the rest of the the world by an average of I forget 40 ppg! Magic was rusty as well being he had to retire prematurely as well. A risk?! You can't be serious MJ wasn't even the leading scorer of the team for god sake they put Christian latener on the team instead of Shaq! Wtf and blew the rest of the world by 40 ppg. You see where I'm going?

@@jasonborne4931 i see that you can't comprehend the team chemistry argument. The '92 team became the 'Dream Team' because they were able to develop chemistry. Because they had chemistry, they didn't need Jordan to play at his best. Also, put yourself in 1992, instead of 2019. Laettner was a more obvious option over Shaq.

Jason Borne you’re right to a point. I despise Isiah but he should’ve been on there. But the championship point isn’t the reason. Plus Barkley at that time deserved to be there over Isiah simply because he was the best PF in the game. Stockton also deserved it along with Isiah. I don’t know who you keep off but both deserved it. I think if anybody should’ve been off the team it’s Pippen. At the time he was only a 2 time all star and was becoming a great player. The other players were definitely more established. I’ve heard rumors MJ somewhat demanded he get on that team or he wouldn’t play.

+Jason Borne: "Blasphemy. I'm so glad Spider Sally told the truth that Michael wasn't the reason but it was actually Magic…" But, it was Magic's team. Without him, there's no Dream Team. And, he's one of the higher ups who Jordan referenced-- the other was probably Bird. After FIBA opened the Olympics to all players in any professional league in 1992, Rod Thorn and David Stern of the NBA wanted their players to participate after the US team was humiliated in the '88 Games but almost no star player in the NBA wanted to play. Thorn went to Jordan who declined saying he already had a gold medal but if they got players he wanted to play with then he'd be on the team. Thorn went to Magic. He agreed to play and called Larry Bird who was ready to call it a career but wanted to play one last series of games with Magic-- they played together in an all-star game in high school and in a NBA charity game. After rumors circulated that Magic and Bird wanted to play in the '92 Olympics and wanted to get a team together almost every NBA star wanted to be on that team including Jordan. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o8p9Y5dq2JmxlGQ.html

Stockton wasn't putting up better numbers "by far" as you said. He only had better assist and steal numbers. Bottom line is, players didn't want to play with Isiah, but he was definitely deserving. The other thing though, is that the other Point Guards chosen were also deserving, so that's where reputation kicks in, and his reputation as a the "General" of the much hated "Bad Boys" team was the deciding factor. Other "nicer" players were selected instead.

GREAT VIDEO!! learned some new info and I especially liked the analysis on their respective seasons I heard stephen a. smith and another commentator talking about why this happened (with Pippen and Jordan) but, after they agreed it was the right move, they both nonchalantly added that it was still obvious Thomas was the far superior player. I though that was the biggest BS I ever heard ...now you confirmed what I already knew thanks again for a good video
