Renee, you ARE a real film maker! You’ve amounted this massive audience purely from the way in which you tell your stories. Boat life alone isn’t enough to accumulate such a large, supportive fan base. It’s the way you’re able to tell the stories. The way you film them, the sequence of the shots, what you choose to include and not.. it’s an art form and one that you’re clearly very good at! Just because it may be your daily life, doesn’t mean it’s not a real, great film (video). You’re continuing to grow, purely because of your skills and ability. Be proud!!!

I made this comment after only watching the intro with no idea how you felt about making movies. Maybe you could try your hand at writing a screenplay. That’s to me where the emotion and spirit of a movie starts. Then adding the soundtrack and acting along with all the movie production brings it all together. But maybe start with the writing. Or maybe delve into just cinematography. You have such a talent you should really create a short film and enter it into a few contests in your spare hours of course 😝.

Your passion really shows, even if you haven't hit the level you want to be at yet, you have some of the best sailing vlog moments hands down. R&E have paid people to have those moments...at times...while Colin from PV has also delivered some shots that are amazing, but you are truly talented. Hopefully the kids hang around long enough for your cinematic peak or maybe you'll find it somewhere you'd never expect. Either way I'm happy to join you on that adventure and look forward to your next adventure. Thanks for sharing!

Good morning, Renee. I've been watching for several years (I think at least 4) and I just turned my head while working when I heard you say, "I want to be a real film maker." I totally see it. I love your work...I love your visuals...and your vision. I hope you will make it happen...and make the films you want to see. I really hope so. Thank you btw for being such a great and reliable go to for me to escape while I work at my business (I am a chef and cooking school owner). I love your channel...your family...and the incredible gift you and Keith have given your kids.

I love your movies!! I have watched them all and the first 6 seasons I have seen about 7 times, no lie… Most nights while laying in bed I put Zatara on my tv. My son asks to watch them at night too but he calls them Float Away. ❤ I thank you all for giving me this dream I never even thought I would have! I have just gotten my NJ real Estate License and during my first coaching session we had to write out short term and long term goals. My biggest goal is to buy a boat and live aboard and sail the South Pacific! Do the same route you did in season 1

Omg I have to tell you this- my hubby and I were watching this episode (we always watch from his log in- I just subscribed from mine) and I commented about how beautiful the opening of this video was. I said it was very cinematic!!! It was so cool that you later described how you wanted the beginning of this video to be “cinematic”. My hubby was shocked that I totally felt your vibes and used the same word as you. That’s because you nailed it! The scenery and music were perfectly in harmony and made me feel your passion. Great job!!! We love your channel!

I live in S. Florida so Ive been blessed to have done some boating over the years. I was on a wooden 90 foot sailboat for a day sail. I was laying on the deck near the bow listening to music. The song "sailing" came on and I opened my eyes. Next to me a dolphin about 3 feet away. Moments like that never go away. You are so lucky and I knowvyou realize that. Thank you so much for sharing.🧡🐬

Amazing video. Such talent Renee… you are a professional film maker. You say you want to make cinematic movies, yet you actually do..I can’t get enough of your channel. Thanks for your videos. I see calm seas, beautiful weather, and kids having such great lives.. i think “I can do this”, but not every day at sea is calm, nice, or beautiful. I’m sure you can tell stories about huge rolling seas, storms and winds that scared you.. or how often everyone worries that something will break leaving you in a serious problem. I’m glad you guys made it across the Atlantic. I look forward to learn about “what comes next” once you “back on the hard”. Thanks.. you guys are the best.

Renee, the videography, narrative and editing are absolutely first-rate professional. FYI, some of the shots I love the most are those that clearly show the swells, hard to do in 2D, but some of yours do that. Love it when those shots are long enough to guestimate the distance between them and their height. Also very much enjoy Keith's explanations of weather (mechanisms, predictions, rationalle of routes) while showing navigation data or weather displays (wind, swells, etc.).

It's been decades since I have been out on the blue but clearly remember the distinct feeling being in the middle of the ocean with nothing to see but sky, water, & warm sun. It brings such a feeling of peace, quiet, & time to reflect on one's self. When the weather & seas become angry, it can be terrifying which brings another completely different set of emotions into play. At night with all the brilliant stars, moon, & bioluminescence it's mesmerizing. Ok back to reality... thanks for making those memorable times resurface in my brain. ❤

Renee.....I grew up, like you and Kieth when the movies we watched transported to another world where our imaginations were challenged and we when we left the theatre it was with every step that we slowly left that world behind. Unfortunately, those types of films are no longer created or are very rare. It's mostly crapy movies created in mass by streaming platforms. Amazon, Netflix, Apple, etc have destroyed real film making. However, some creators like YOU have done an amazing job capturing a "dream life" that most of us will never know. You do an amazing job documenting your travels through these videos and like those film makers we grew up with, you allow us to board Zatara and experience those adventures with you. You are a "real filmmaker".

Renee, I’ve done modeling and acting and as fun as it is to see the final product, the most fun really is the production. The crews are always fun and I always learned something new from them. And it was always amazing to know what went into getting a particular shot. Especially a time when it was 50 degrees and raining and we had to wear short sleeves to make it look like summer. It was such a dreary day and it was amazing how they made it look like it was sunny in post. Days are long, pay isn’t always great but it is always so much fun and interesting. I think you should make a short film to play with. Storyboard it, select a few cast members from your boat and play with how you can change the mood / message through lighting and music.

As a long time subscriber, and as a BBC trained director, as soon as the opener started, my eyes and ears pricked up and I thought - "Ooh la la - Renée is going up a level!". I felt it with the cinematic music and the ambient shots. More of that please, although normal ambient music is also good as cinematic has a risk of getting pompous. I find it missing in most of the sailing videos where it's all hustle bustle human angle, which doesn't always fit when many surely come in large part for the sailing feeling which is about the moments with nature. I find you're the best storyteller of the channels I watch here. You got a knack for the editing, timing and explaining, but again, yes please to more long, ambient shots with suitable music to get the feeling.

For motion sick dogs like me who will never get to enjoy cruising our planet’s oceans, I say thank you. It means so much to me that I get to enjoy the cruising through your lens. Renee you are a filmmaker, and you have made my world a better place.

@renee do you realize you inspire people every day! And the realness of your videos actually is way more inspiring than any blockbuster movie! I know that might be hard to see since it’s just your everyday life but for those of us landlocked folks it’s very inspiring what you all have done!! Thank you for having the courage to share this adventure and your families life with all of us!! Looking forward to meeting you in Miami!! ❤⛵️

I like to make my rice with coconut water when I have it with salmon. If you haven't tried it omg it's so good.

You ARE a great filmmaker! How about film a "who-done-it" on board? With a big twist at the end of course.

Night Vision Monocular - Have you considered having one? They are very affordable now, a good Bushnell is less than $300us. Great for when you pull into an anchorage at night... A Thermal Monocular would be great in fog and other times, also in the $300us price range. Both would be nice to have when looking out for pirates. 🎉

I think one of my favorite videos of y’all’s is the one where yall went to Normandy. That one was so well put together, and similarly like you talk about films pulling emotions- that one did. ❤

Renae, you are a real film maker. Most of what you make is more beautiful than anything you could get at a theater. Please do more diving and underwater filming if you would. Y'all have an eye in places not many get to venture. Also differences in foods and ways between countries. Problems you've witnessed in our oceans and where.exp.: pollution, dead reefs etc. I think people would and do enjoy what you share.

I love listening to movie soundtracks! Nice to know I'm not the only one. The intro was super awesome! Opening shot of the Boat reminded me of waterworld
