Vincent Kompany looks to be charging Burnley straight back to the Premier League, coasting 5 points ahead of 2nd at the top of the Championship.
Known for a far more defensive & less creative form of football during their time in the top flight - the ex-Man City captain has instilled a new style of football at Turf Moor inspired by his old manager, Pep Guardiola.

Every citizen is glued to the championship because of our legend doing so well . Went abroad and mastered his managerial skills now his ready to take a team to the PL and I honestly believe his style will make burnley a consistent PL team same way Sean D did but Mr Dyche was working miracles when he was at burnley. What he did with what he got was magical . Now the new era under Kompany is very exciting

@@addy5572 Xavi is Pep Ball. Ten Hag is trying to get United used to both possesion and counter attacking. Remember Arsenal played the same way in the first season, they got bad results and people wanted Arteta out for scrapping points while trying to make his tea play fluent.

its very interesting how two of the last three Championship winners have played possession orintated football (Marco Silva's Fulham and Marcelo Bielsa's Leeds) really good to see. looks like Burnely are heading in the same direction as well.

I’d argue Norwich under Farke were pretty heavily possession oriented as well. Both times, but more so in 20/21 as opposed to a slightly more chaotic 18/19

@@reddevil5543 hello they got 60M debt and their players now are not those relegated Premier League team players now. They're all sold to European top division side and last summer transfer window they earn 35M euros.

Once they return to the Premiership, it'll be interesting to see how Burnley adapts this style to compete in a tougher league. I would guess that Kompany has this figured out already as he was a defender and, I presume, can coach a more defensive system if need be. I'm not a City fan, but it's nice to see him doing well. Good luck to him!

I think Boehly is planning to turn Chelsea into Galacticos , so there will be little chance for young/academy players to breakthrough unless they are "special".

Those are just promising young players who've shown potential at a high level, not established names like Figo, Zidane, Kaká, Ronaldo, Kroos, etc... were

Kompany is gonna be a GOAT of management in years to come. In such a short period of time he's totally changed Burnley's playing style from the wretched, torrid style of Dyche to a silky, easy on the eye way of playing. Burnley will be a much more positive part of the Premier League next season. I just hope Burnley manage to secure the services of Kompany in the long term, because I have no doubt that many clubs will be keeping an eye on him.

Enjoyed the video. Makes you realise that there is more to this style of football than the manager saying " go out and play lads". I read that he has zones marked on the training pitch so the players know where they need to be at any given moment. I don't know if that's common or not.

The Opta chart was really interesting. Yet Luton are sitting 4th in the championship and Swansea (closer to Man City than Burnley are on the chart) are 12th. So it's not to be treated as some secret recipe for success, it is only an indication of how a team (and their coach) likes to play.

Exactly. There seems to be a common misconception that playing in a possession and/or high pressing style is inherently better. It isn't. Some of the worst football you can watch is passing for passing's sake, like Spain's death by 1000 passes in 2018/2022, or Tuchel in the Premier League, because it's neither entertaining nor productive or efficient. There's nothing wrong with attacking offensively (direct) and defending... well, defensively. With so many teams trying to 'play out from the back' (aka take silly risks around their goal) and dominating the ball, the other side only gets so much possession to convert into goals so they have to go direct. In a world where cutesy, short and nimble dribblers and short passers are overrated and therefore cost more, there's not much that weaker sides with inferior finances can do but recruit typical players to fit their logical style.

I think that’s really harsh on Jon but I agree that Michael’s style is very refreshing. Michael’s videos feel like I’m talking to a well educated mate, whereas Jon’s style is more like an essay or a TED talk. There is room and an audience for both.

This is what top quality coach in making looks like . Completely changed clubs identity , brought new players , implemented his style and built competitive team that wins with style and flair every week in one of the hardest leagues in the world. This is the difference between long ball merchant SD and top quality coach and argument that SD had no money Is the reason why his team couldn’t combine two passes forward is very brainwashing and flawed narrative .

Great breakdown. Trust the system, they may struggle at times in the EPL next season (assuming they go up), but sticking to their principles through adversity will pay off in the longer term.
