I often get asked how long it takes to become fluent in English. This lesson explains EXACTLY what you need to do to speed things up 🔥
Get your fluency book here: www.tofluency.com/book (it's FREE to download!)
The short answer to this common question is that it depends on you and what you do.
Some learners can make MASSIVE improvements within a few months. Others never improve.
The three main factors that dictate how quickly you can become fluent in English are:
1. Your current level - click here to test it: • How to Evaluate Your O...
2. How many hours you spend learning English per day (the more you do, the better!)
3. What you do with your time.
If you can study English for two hours each day, here is what I recommend so that you can get fluent fast:
- 30 minutes working on your pronunciation
- 30 minutes reading and listening to something in English
- 30 minutes using my method: • A Simple Method to Imp...
- 30 minutes of speaking practice
Like I said, this is just one example. However, following this plan will help you! Are you ready to try it?
ENGLISH FLUENCY PROGRAM:
My program gives you the method that will dramatically improve your speaking, grammar, and pronunciation and the materials you need to follow this method.
This method works and if you are ready to FINALLY speak English with confidence, I would love to have you.

It's pretty simple, right? If you spend more time doing the right things, you'll improve faster. Going from A2/B1 to C1 can be done in a few months if you commit to it. If you haven't done so yet, watch the video where I go through my speaking method: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ndioe7pn0KrMmXk.html

Thank you Mr Jack ,I'm ordinarily I spend about two hours in listening and reading ,but the gross flaw which I'm doing is I don't practice my speaking in English ,perhaps because of self-conscious feeling or anxious about making mistakes !!

It is possible! Jack is totally right in that what you do and how you study is extremely important. I went from A2 to C1 in 5 months: 10 hours classes/week, about another 10 hours homework, memorising everything, and talking to native speakers. This was in the days when internet didn't exist and I didn't have money for books so I copied everything from free newspapers and from books in the library. Now I have a C2 level and I am an academic English teacher at English speaking universities.

Ryan Schafer you must speak much better than A2 as this piece of writing you have here is at least B2! It doesn't matter wich book you use as long as you like it and use it. There is no perfect method, only diligent students. I must admit that i never got the same far with my Spanish. I have the same problem as you, buying too many books! Althiugh i did get to C1 but it took me 8+ years. Obviously, I didn't put in the same effort.

Congratulations! I think I will make my dream come true, too! I've been studying English since 2021. I'VE learned a little grammar . Also I watch video lessons in English on KZfaq. I've never taken in courses before, but planned to do it soon. As a result , I can make sentences and say whatever I want to say. However, I have to improve my vocabulary and pronaunciation, etc. I'm trying to learn English.I know It's not enough! I need to take in courses to be more confident. I writed all these words without any translator. If I writed incorrectly, let me know!

It's a long story for me! I started with memorizing a lot of words for my GRE preparation, I have got a good stock of words and now I am practicing phrases commonly used by British people. I love the way British people speak and trying to catch up with their accent. I usually depend on BBC radio and online materials. All of these efforts help me understand native speakers conversations well. I use to spend around 5 hours per day in practicing English. To Fluency helps me a lot on my way to fluency. Thanks!

By watching this video, I think I'm on the right track. I spend more than 4 hours a day learning English. I start off my day by reading 30 min, then I do some intensive reading, which means I take a short article and I look up every single word that I'm not familiar with. On my way to university and on my way back home from it, I put on my headphones and listen to some podcasts for about an hour. On top of that, I'm majoring in English. That add an extra 2 to 3 hours of contact with English. And lastly, from time to time, my friends and I get together in the evening and speak only in English

I spend 3-4 hours per day learning english and i come from Hong Kong . The third method is sort of shadowing i think , which means you learn how to speak by imitating or mimicking the natives like a baby do . It helps to excercise your mouth and accustomed to speak in english. A website i m gonna to recommend to all of you who want practising shadowing is “TED Talk”. It has the english script under most of the video , by clicking a every single sentence, it direct to the corresponding speaking of the natives. Its really useful to follow with the talker and repeat it as many times as you want. If you dont have an english partner at this moment , you could try this to keep your mouth open daily and used to speak in english . This method helps me a lot and I hope it fits you too !

My biggest advice for you guys it to practice on your own. I try to talk to myself wherever it's possible, by doing that I'm able to see my mistakes and correct them right away. On top of that, I've subscribed to so many English native youtubers and to do by best to be very active on the comments section, and believe or not I always get replies and it's lead to good exchanges of talking. Not to mention that I try to talk to other subscribers as well some of the have whatsapp groups, I always as to be included in. In those whatsapp groups people send tons of audios, here is when the game starts, truly pay attention on the currently topic and try to reply so many audios as much as you can. Practice the audios before send them, correct if you come across with some mistakes and have fun. Those are my little tips hope I have helped in anyway.

My listening, reading and writing are very good but in my country, people don't speak English so I never get an opportunity to speak it. My IELTS is coming up in a month and last time I scored 5.5/9 in the speaking part (my overall was 7/9). This time I am just practicing alone and recording myself to see what types of mistakes do I make. My goal is to score 7 or above in all areas.

To improve my english, i watch youtube videos, documentary films, maybe sometimes english series or films, i read e-books, newspapers and articles. I can totally understand what you say when i watch your videos. Maybe sometimes when i read something i could have a difficulty in understanding slang words or pharasal verbs and then i look them up in a online dictionary, usually in Cambridge dictionary. I spend almost 4 hours in reading and listening but i hardly ever write. I feel like my english is improving slowly. I hope someday i ll be a fluent in English.

I study Hebrew and Greek. I usually listen to a recording and learn to read a passage of a book, a conversation, or part of the bible first. Then I go back and listen to 10-15 second passages of that recording and read along and then stop the recording and read out loud the passage myself. After that I go back and review those passages the next day and learn other passages. After that I keep almost all the recordings on my phone so that they come up occasionally and I hear them at random, but I don't typically go back and review them after a couple days. I move on to newer material. Whatever vocabulary I learn will of course come up in other passages and readings, so in a way I am still reviewing though.

I spend 1 and half hours for learning English and i use all skills (40 min listening- and 40 min reading-5 min free writing-5 min talking with myself) the big idea i found is take your goal to learn English as a habit (just don't complete your day without english)and now i am still learning ,thank you for your advice

Hi Jack. Now my method is to focus on the pronunciation, the English's sounds, and the vocabulary. My motivation is to understand small phrases. That is what keeps me motivated. Because if I start by the grammar, I am going to feel frustated. Grammar is boring, that is why I am going to study it when I can already to understand the words.

i just like the fact that you do not try to be unnecessarily polite by suggesting more easy methods that will work different from the hard ones we know that are really working, like finding an english speaking partner..that is being truthful for me,,,,,you are a true teacher ,,,not someone who just wants views

I indulge myself in KZfaq, watching anything in English. If I don't have access to the internet, I read books. But oftentimes, I'm just secretly talking to myself in English about anything I can think of. I feel like that method of talking to myself allows me to improve my pronunciation, my accent, and my speaking skills in general at the same time.

I try to expose myself to English as much as I can, I watch English videos, listen to podcast everyday , and try to imitate some phrases that I hear, and sometimes I talk to myself, and do many repetition while I learn new words!! I also try to force myself a little bit, especially when I feel lazy, it requires discipline, motivation and perseverance. And having passion about it is the key!! Or else, it could be very struggling even painful!!

lin lin Girl congratulations keep up the good work, definitely hard work pays off. I can feel that you're a very hard working and there is no way the become fluent unless you hustle. Me personally, have been trying keep motivated, however, it's no easy because of my busy schedule and my laziness sometimes. Thereby it delays my learning process but here I am trying to boost myself day by day. Additionally, I also love watching lots of random English videos And I also leave bunch of comments on the comments section which is good because it helps me to interact with some natives speakers even though by writing, I still learning and catch up a lot though. Good luck on your path I'm cheering for you.

Celma Alexandre Thank you very much, Alexandre!! I got lazy once in a while, I know exactly what you mean, especially when you don’t see the progress, that can really bring you down, but keep doing what you like, adjusting the mindset to be active simultaneously is also one of the ways for me to keep up the effort, don’t pursue easy and comfortable status as a goal in life!! That’s what I remind myself!! Share with you!! All the best!!

Hi Jack, l'm Sebastian, first let me tell you that you videos help a lot with my listening practice, and l take some advices that you gives. Okay, today l took iTEP placement test and l got a B1, all the skills that you have to develop had the same score, this test won't count, but l'm having the same test in to week, my question is, Do you believe that it is possible to get a B2 o C1 if l study in an intensive way? Finally, thank you so much by your videos and continue as you have been doing it. Regrats regards from Mexico

Hello Jack. Most of your videos are amazing, that means you are one of the best teachers in over the world. My current level may be in around B2. So far, I can understand most of the thing while watching TV shows like Ellen Show or the Late Late Show. Sometimes I watch videos on tedtalk.com, I can understand them more than 90 percent. However, when I try to use materials which are more difficult like Nature Chanel, It really struggles for me to understand them. How can I deal with this problem? Can I reach the C1 level by spending more than 4 hours per day to learn English as soon as possible? I got the answers for a couple of questions already from your video. I hope soon that I will have a good command of English. Thank you very much.
