How Malaysia is Winning the US-China Chip War | Vantage with Palki Sharma
As the US and China face off over advanced computer chips, a different country is walking away with the spoils. Malaysia is becoming the new global hub for advanced chip manufacturing. Penang in Malaysia was already home to the first Intel factory outside the US. Intel set up a plant in Penang back in 1972. This led to other companies setting up base in Malaysia. And now, the world is turning to Malaysia to avoid the fallout of the US-China chip war. Palki Sharma brings you a report.

Former PM of Malaysia , Mahathir Mohamad told WSJ in Sept , 2018 , " We have traded with China for nearly two thousand years . China never conquered us. We have relations with Europe. The Portuguese came to Malaysia in 1509. Two years later, they came and conquered us. So I always feel that I’m safer with China than with Western countries " . Australia should have no problem with China as well , unless US Missiles were launched from ports in Australia . It is advisable for Australia to pay for the nuclear submarine and keep it in US ports permanently . Try to keep distance from the Warmongers !

US investment in the region can be used a diplomatic bargaining chip against C C P 8. de-risking & diversifying into S.East Asia by USA and EU dilutes C C P power & aggression (ie western investment means in Malaysia means western divestment from china) 9 Malaysia will most likely "assemble" and make low range chips (will not have ASML Fab lithographs) 10. Malaysian leaders were always visionary since even before we gained independence. Their ideas and hardwork can be positively felt by our generation today. From principles, policies, economic drive, and political stance, what they've done has bring fruits for the country. Yes, we have challenges but we'll overcome it. Let Malaysia be the neutral ground where the US and China's businesses can meet. Malaysia are all for peace anyway. May Allah SWT always bless Malaysia 🇲🇾 ❤❤❤.

Malaysia has highly skilled labour market and Engineers. Infact many South Asian a.k.a Indian Nationals work in Malaysia low skilled jobs. We had our globalisation in 80s not 2000s like India. Manufacturing has been our biggest exports since 80s not petrolium like you guys like to potray. News channels here never talk about India, infact not even Singapore media have spoken higly about India. Just watch their CNA documentaries and they will always demean India and speak higly about China. Wake up your IT sector is also mostly doing low end job in the supply chain of the software market. Its strategic location, cost-effective labor, and English-speaking workforce have made it an attractive destination for chipmaking ventures. 3. All the country that do well in chip manufacturing , are with Confucianism culture. For chip manufacturing, a high level of discipline is the key, and most Americans today don't possess it. They call it “forced labour" Taiwanese media reported on August 2 that TSMC claimed the production holdup at its Arizona facility was caused by a shortage of trained American labour and that they had sent staff from Taiwan to assist with the factory's development. Labour union officials in Arizona, on the other hand, criticised TSMC for exploiting this as a justification to bring in "low-wage foreign labour."

Your closing remarks suggest that you wish Malaysia derail from this enviable trajectory it's on . It is good news for Malaysia but we might have another problem which is high skilled labor shortage that could be an issue.. More and more of our younger generation prefer geek economy and setting their ambition as youtuber, KOL, content creator etc. Food delivery riders, e-hailing drivers are everywhere. Science and Math no longer interest them.. And with our PISA scores are getting lower than our neighboring countries like Vietnam. Other countries have move on while we are still debating whether Science and Math should be taught in BM or English.. I foresee that the country would likely to import high skill workers from other countries like India, China, the middle east. This phenomenal is already happening in our local IT industry.. We allow foreign chip makers to setup their plant here but benefitting foreign talents..
