I love, love, love the woodcock! I hope I’ll see one someday. I’m just loving your videos. Impressive how well you know the bird calls. Ive been working on that, but it’s hard! ~new subscriber

A truly unique species! It is always a red letter day when I get to see one and not just hear it. Keep working on those bird calls! It takes a lot of time and experience.

I came for the warbler clips, and stayed for Sparky's inimitable mnemonics. Thank you Sparky for doing the hard work 😅 of getting such beautiful video and sound clips. I took the lazy man's approach this past weekend by kayaking out to the island in the middle of Pequaywan Lake and pulling out Merlin Bird app to ID warblers by sound profile (Blackburnian, Ovenbird, Magnolia, Chesnut-sided, Black and White).

Thanks, Bob! You’ve actually reminded me that I was going to include a segment on Merlin… I used it at the Connecticut Warbler spot and it was pretty amazing.

The Connecticut is the only warbler out of the 36 eastern ones I haven't got. They are like a needle in a hay stack here in East Tennessee. I keep looking though lol

Hi Roger, they are phantoms during migration… That’s for sure! They are even tough here on the breeding grounds.

I think Black throated Olive Warbler would be a good replacement if im being honest, yellow green mixed together is close to an Olvie color. Congrats on you Connecticuit thats a really good bird, im new to your channel but you put out really good content! Keep it up Sparky!

What is a good time for birding. Believe it's about 7 hours from our home in South Dakota, so need to do some planning for a long weekend RV trip.

Hi Rusty and Debbie! Our busiest season is winter from mid December to late February. When people come for the Greg Gray Owls, Northern, Hawk Owls, winter, finches, and other boreal birds. If you want to see warblers, the best is probably late May to mid June. To make the most of your trip always a good idea to hire a guide. Check out our website for more info www.saxzim.org.

Well done, indeed, Sparky. Koochiching County has 25 regularly occurring warbler species. I built a collection of high-resolution photos of, mainly, breeding males. It took me years! So, I know of the challenges you faced. 😊

Thanks, Al! I guess you’re talking about breeders and migrants… Correct? Congratulations on getting good photos of all of them! That is certainly not an easy chore.

@@SparkyStensaas Yes, both. Looking at warbler nesting occurrence maps indicates our county is under-represented, as in other things. Species records are all around us, but not shown here. So, it’s a matter of conjecture which species actually nest here.
