How many Water Balloons does it take to stop an Arrow?

In this video I try to double the world record for the most water balloons burst with a single arrow shot from a compound bow. The current record is 38, and with the vlog style video I take you behind the scenes in our journey to capture a new world record in Archery. World record for the most water balloons broke with a bow and arrow, and a crossbow. Arrow vs Water balloon's! Additionally we thought we would stretch the rules a bit and try to double the world record by shooting an arrow from a crossbow at 80 water balloons. Does it count?

You should submit both, but I don't understand why the second one wouldn't count? At worst, you've made a brand new world record - most number of waterballoons shot with a crossbow bolt! Fun video, thanks Drew and Buzz (and nephew).

Ya I would say the cross bow is a while different record, it’s not the same skill level as a compound bow. But again it doesn’t define what kind of bow

Yes, it counts! Balloons can burst in lots of ways. Submit it! Also, I don't see why not at least try submitting the crossbow one? Even if it just results in the creation on a new world record, that'd be pretty cool!

I'd say a tie. The last 2 balloons were still holding shape and liquid, not completely separated from their hanging position. Really depends what the officials judge though.

This is a great look at just how much work goes into just making a video of something but also shows how much work goes into both making a video and attempting a world record! Great video; thanks! As someone who's intimately familiar with archery, I know an impressive shot when I see one and, a few flubs aside due to nerves, he's a damned decent archer :) I've never understood "World Records" - if you want a challenge, that's fine, it's very human but no one tends to remember these Guinness World Records for very long anyway lol

I’d love to say you did it. But as the rules failed to define ‘burst’, Oxford steps in and defines the verb as “break open or apart suddenly and violently”. Those last two can’t really be described as violently. And yet I feel this is the way most (if not all) people would judge a balloon to have ‘burst’ if it does so violently.

I see there is a bit of min maxing going on. By targeting near the tops where there is just air, the arrow deflects less and keeps its speed up. Maybe making them a bit bigger would give them more sag so the arrow can slowly descend through air pockets of the water balloons.

Ya we tried a bunch of combinations, for the actual bow and arrow it came down to getting a perfect shot so the arrow would “skip” across the water on top of the balloons. The crossbow has way more speed so doesn’t drop as quickly

I think that an old fashioned bow should be a requirement because I found that they are really hard to keep steady and that they take a lot of strength to pull back aim and release.

The video was awesome the accuracy of shooting with both the bow and crossbow was unbelievable. I will say that I don’t think Guinness would count the last balloon, I would be very happy to be proved wrong.
