You also do not absolutely need toys for your baby. It’s totally a want. You could give your baby measuring cups, pots and pans, red solo cups, etc. stuff you already have and they will be entertained (the remote) or an old remote etc.

It is nice to have dedicated baby toys for safety and other reasons but I just wanted to point out it’s not necessary in case new parents don’t want to spend $40 a month on toys.

I think the main point is to give them something for development. Personally I know my parents gave us toys, but we played with the boxes more. Can’t ever go wrong with a stuffed animal!

Babies don’t need toys for their development. This is such a myth that you need to stimulate them, have flash cards, educational toys, etc. Until they’re about three years old, all they need the most is their mother and father. Erica Komisar talks about this in depth on many platforms and in her books.

I babysit my grandchildren for free while their parents work. I watched my oldest granddaughter (now 14) from 6 weeks until she went to kindergarten and now I’m watching my 9 month old grandson. His mommy (my daughter) and daddy are now TTC their second and my oldest daughter and her hubby are TTC their first. My younger son and his soon to be wife will be trying in the next year or so. I can’t wait! I hope I get to watch lots of grand babies! My husband and I love to watch them. We watch them for free but our kids have always been very kind and generous to us by sending us on trips for our anniversary and getting us random gifts. Now my daughter often PayPal’s me money but I just end up spending it a lot of it back on my grandson. I love getting him little clothes and stuff like that. My oldest son and his wife (parents if they 14yr old) always get their nieces and nephews the Lovevery subscriptions so my grandson has that and he LOVES it. Anyways I love being a Nana and I love watching your videos!!

Great video! If you start out smart with baby #1 you can save a ton for baby #2 + also. I wouldn't know because our three are all 6, 7 years apart and we didn't plan the third and had to start back from zero but it's a great tip for lots of people 😆. We love cloth diapering but I'm also clueless about elimination communication. I spent a small fortune with my second child on a top-of-the-line breast pump, and then another small fortune on a few dozen bottles trying to find one she would take, only to have it all go to waste because she never did drink a bottle first or last 😅. Old Navy is also my fav for super affordable (especially the clearance section), not too cutsey boys clothes. I've gotten lots of plainer, more neutral but still very nice tops and bottoms for our 8 month old from ON.

Daycare was and still is our biggest expense at $725/month. It's increasing next month too. I want to say we paid just over $900/month when she was a baby and now the same place charges almost $1000/month. Formula was spot on for us at $150/month when we were in that stage and I'd say we paid about $40/month for diapers and wipes. As far as clothes and toys go, if you have a Rhea Lana's sale or a Once Upon A Child store in your area, I recommend checking them out! Girl mom here and I'm able to spend so much less on good quality items by shopping at these places. I do always buy her shoes new though.

@@l.amoureux66 I worked at a daycare and my mother in law ran an income daycare. In home daycares tend to be cheaper but in my experience they range from $150-$300 a WEEK. Some child care centers offer part time to cut costs but don't expect the same from in home daycares as it's usually only one person and they're only legally allowed to watch a certain number of kids.

I have three and my kids really don't cost much. The bulk of their "expenses" is just for us spoiling them with expensive gifts but def not things they really need. They cost less than my rabbits did monthly lol. I breastfeed and cloth diaper and my bill did not change at all and my grocery does not as well.

Thanks for this! I’m due in September and have started stockpiling diapers and wipes already when I find them on sale or clearance (I’m a big couponer). I’ve also ordered the snoo when they had a sale to save money and I’ve been watching for sales for everything else we need too!

@@FromDiamWithLove I’ve been following a bunch of couponers for deal ideas. (Thekrazycouponlady, couponing with Kayla, etc..) and generally just do what they tell me to! Cvs, Walgreens, dollar general, target are all great and i always look for clearance diapers. My rule for diapers is no more than 20 cents per diaper and no more than 2 cents per wipe!

I love H&M for our kids clothes, organic cotton in cute colors and patterns and they always have sales but target as well. My kids were always long and lean, and H&Ms clothes never looked baggy on them. We cloth diapered but know it isn't for everyone, but a lot of people don't take into consideration their cost of water. We live where water is cheap, but in some areas it outweighs the costs between water, electricity for washing and detergent. Also, we were able to use them for two kids and sell them and bought most used. Also, buy a few different brands used and try them out for a bit before completely committing. One thing that made the biggest cost savings for us was to resell as much as possible after the kids were done with it at consignment sales or facebook market place. It takes time to tag the items, but I would make between $250-$500 a sale (2xs a year) which I then added back into the kids budget. So it meant up until this point all of the kids costs were covered each year by the reselling of items. But that said We do budget a monthly amount for the kids to take advantage of sales and things just like you mentioned. We budget $50 a month for our two kids now, but I don't buy many clothes for them. I noticed we were never wearing enough clothes, and now I buy WAY less clothing for them since they will wear their favorites now anyway. So I buy better quality items on sale, and replace items as I need them. Or for instance, my son busted holes in every single pair of his pants (From target their jogger pants are amazing), and instead of tossing, I will make them into shorts for the summer and spring. Then in the fall stock up on new pants. It makes less laundry and hassle. So a capsule wardrobe almost for the kids. Love your posts. Also, one thing we are glad we did while the kids were young and don't care about gifts we asked family members who wanted to gift our kid things for college money instead. This has helped us save more earlier for the kids. Then the grandparents gave boxes, tissue paper, bubble wrap, etc. which the kids loved more at that age than an actual gift. ;p

We did buy clothes for our kids for the first few years. My kids were given so many gifts of clothes that we did not have to buy anything till around age 2. Between newborn gifts, holidays, grandparents and family and friends, we just never had to purchase them. It is great to get free clothes but sometimes I wished I could purchase clothing or cute outfits myself. But I used the gifts and saved the money. I also did not buy bath supplies for our baby for the first year because we were given so much at our shower!

I love cloth diaperIng! After multiple moves though, I switched to regular diapers just because things got so crazy and I got out of the habit. We were living at a house that only had a septic, so we only paid $67 each month total. It never went up and that was the cheapest we ever had! Literally saved so much money on diapers then! 😍 not sure what we will do with the second child as my first is now a toddler. I don’t know that I have it in me to do all the work in time that it takes to do them but I was happy I got a chance to try them out and help be green for a little bit! I was also very blessed, my mom paid for lovevery and so my daughter has been able to get all those toys. We would not be able to forward them otherwise but I absolutely love them!

My baby is allergy or intolerant to cows milk. Her formula is 190 bucks every 3 weeks. I get it on Amazon so it’s a little cheaper if you sign up for auto ship. If you have the same issue with your little one. She uses nutramaguen(that spelling is wrong) but I was not expecting this expensive formula. Some months it’s 400 bucks in just formula. 😦

I can't speak for all girl moms, but when our little one was a baby, we didn't spend much on clothing because we were gifted a lot of stuff. We bought some onesies, which she lived in, but that was it. As they get older, you'll spend a little more (depending where you live) due to seasonal needs, such as Winter coats or rain boots, which can all be found cheap/on sale. There's definitely less options for baby boys depending on where you shop/your budget, but I think as they get older, it's kind of similar for boys/girls in regard to options/price.

I agree with this, I've spent almost nothing on clothes for my daughter because everyone else buys so many that enough good condition things get passed on we don't need to buy much. With my son I think I spent more on clothes because he was super rough on them so I was always replacing things and what got passed on was just less stuff and in worse condition. Even if I bought everything new outright I still think boys would be more expensive because they're generally more rough on their clothes. I dont buy more clothes just because I have a girl, but the styles are obviously a tad different.
