I started watching the video thinking "pfff I am not gonna see all of 17 min. U crazy ?" - After I thought that, I continued watching the video and just like that it was over. 17 minutes flew as if they were seconds. Props to Kyne for the lovely way he puts together a video and keeps it so interesting ! Love

A major reason it was initially recommended asymptotic members of the public not wear masks, was because there weren’t many masks to be had. If the public started buying the limited number of surgical masks, that would have taken them away from the people who definitely needed them. We all just watched the TP shortage, it was bound to happen. There was never any doubt that masks were a good idea. But they were still working out how important they were. It took time to ramp up volunteer and commercial efforts to make fabric and disposable masks. There were serious material shortages for, of all things, elastic. (Suddenly we need a lot, but guess where it’s made, and was currently shut down, and then there’s cargo shipping times). As they realized that covid could be spread for 10-14 days before symptoms, and as there were masks available, without diverting them away from the professionals needing them most - as well as the lockdown ending and people going back to work, it made sense to require masks be worn. It also became clear with more case-studies and research that droplets in the air were the major way germs were transferred, much less so surfaces, like had been suspected - a rational theory since other germs work that way. If you look at why the recommendations that were made, were made, it makes very clear sense why they were good, logical, recommendations based on the information and resources available. Thank you. While it's true people should learn to trust experts, I also think it's a reflection on how we not only need to improve education of sciences and maths, but also start open sourcing scientific papers so the everyday person can read and understand the evidence and studies themselves, and perhaps associated with this, having 'reading scientific papers' added into school curriculums since scientific papers can be very tough to read if you're not familiar with the fields. This way, at the VERY least, the evidence that exists is out in the open, even if people don't fully understand it.
