Been watching for years but didn't know you are in Virginia -- we're probably neighbors judging by the beard! I'm southeast of Richmond, in James City County. I enjoyed watching someone else shovel dirt for a change, especially in the interest of science. I believe I had that same bucket on my L3200, and I always estimated it was just under 1/3 yard heaped so ~1/4 yard "struck" sounds about right. Normally Kubota puts the bucket specs in the front loader owner's manual and their literature, so the exact number is probably out there if you want to see how close you got. I have since changed to a L2256 66" bucket, which they classify as a "light material" bucket since it has larger volume but is still limited by the same front loader lift capacity. Specs for that one are 0.3 yard struck and 0.37 yard heaped.

That makes sense. I just sole my L4740 and it had a 6 foot bucket and it was higher bigger deeper bucket but I don’t think mine would hold 1/2 yard. I miss my L4740 but it had some problems and had 4000 hours on it. Looking at buying the L2502 or the B2601.

Your calculation seems right to me! You are right, moving and processing soil is not worth the money while using non dedicated small machinery. Sorry about the smoke, I started my outdoor wood boiler and it did ran a lot of smoke. Lol! I missed that part though, I was in Oregon this week. Thanks!

Always enjoy your videos, and one on actual capacities you and we can see, measure, and picture is helpful. I like the size of your tractor, not too big or small. Is it the L2800? Not sure they make it anymore, seems a lost size between the 25 hp ones with no required emissions filters and the 30+ hp and up. I think Kubota now has 25 hp ones in the BX, B, LX, and L series! Not sure any would have enough torque for the various uses you are involved in, though the LX and L frame sizes might be comparable. If you were replacing it today or buying a new Kubota, what might you go for?

Dave, I lost count several times and was watching the dog in the background. He was rooting through his mound of dirt. I think you put 10 buckets in the loader bucket. Even though I watched several times, I still messed up the count. So, what you're saying, you're stilling on a gold mine, ha. Yep that is a 1/4 yard bucket about 750# weight max for that tractor.

No one sells gravel in 5 gal buckets. This test would be lot better if you made a yard box and see how many loader bucket it takes to fill box, level vs rounded, thats what I want to know.......
