I really don't know. I only know what I have experienced being in Canada for the last 40 years. Before people worked hard and they got somewhere. A house a cottage etc. It was a place where everyone could create a good life. The last 5 years it really changed. The Canadians that had assets got richer than ever before. The wages of simple manufacturing jobs where people made money no longer pay a 3rd of what they use to pay. Minimum wage 30 years ago was 4 times less than say working at Ford. Now the minimum wage crept up to almost the manufacturing wage. The manufacturing wage went down compared to 30 years ago but the houses went up 10X in that time. So people that want to come here and start from scratch is much more difficult. They cant go to work for these jobs. This is why we have labour shortage. If you look at it closely they are all the minimum low paying jobs that is only good for students. You can't live on these wages. This inflation if you look at it is mostly tied to the oil. Gasoline when I was working 20 years ago was around 30 cents a litter and I was making much more than now. When oil goes down magically the prices of things go down. A lot of the things like cloths are the cheapest ever, fast fashion. The products because of Amazon and everyone having access to cheap products because of internet that I was selling 20 years ago I can't even sell for half price. The brand names got more expensive endorsement cost more so you give your money to the rich. Canada is not a good place any more. Most people that come here are the refugees, rich or from 3rd world countries. Europeans that I know that are older went back to their countries. It is a safe country though. But people if they have not made it will probably never own anything and work just to live unless they get lucky, get a really high paying job, or start their own business. Banks by raising the interest rates are getting the most money ever from the average person. But that might not work out in their favour in the long run as people and businesses will start to default on their loans in about 2 years where most fixed mortgages are under 2%. Sticker shock at renewal at 300% higher. They should have lowered interest rates to 0%. Would be much better for everyone. They did the damage already lowering interest rates and they just cant raise them without causing lots of big problems.

@@dobrenkijbog5156 It use to be ok. Mexico looks much better if you have a little money to create your future. Better weather and many places to live but its to getting very expensive.

You have to change jobs regularly. The biggest career killer is staying at one job for more than 3 years. The employer you stay at values you way less than next employer who will pay market rates

That’s a fair point. It is worth considering the ratio of high risk jobs to knowledge or service jobs let’s say. Are there enough high risk jobs to really skew the entire graph?

@@MakeThatChange Yes...Mining, Oil and Gas, Heavy Construction and Forestry...While there are women in those industries with boots on the ground, they are far and few in between. Women tend to opt for the social sciences, as personal preferences, which are not as high paying as other career paths - my daughters included. Doing my best not to generalize though...

If you think carefully about it, all jobs are important to society whether they seem fancy or not. Let’s say the farm age collector didn’t come for a few weeks, well the city would become awefully smelly and rodent infested quickly and people and pets could get sick. So, important job? I drive executives doctors and lawyers around in the big city in terrible traffic and stress. If someone’s getting surgery, it’s b/c I drive their doctor there. People all deserve better than basic living wage. In Canada, even worse than US according to stats, women earn less than men and. Their jobs are valuable, so it should not be the case. My two cents.

At 54, do not come. You're unlikely to find anything that will enable you to live a better life. If you have children and are looking for a better life for them, then it's a maybe. But you personally will struggle.

Angela, my parents came to Canada at around that age. For them, it made sense, because they wanted to optimize for retirement - retiring in Russia was a very grim prospect. Today, they're doing ok, not great, not bad, but they have a comfortable and stable life, one that they wouldn't have today if they stayed in Russia. In the end of the day, it all depends on your goals, and the reason WHY you want to leave your own country.

@@MakeThatChange It makes sense. I am currently researching about products that Pakistan is good at and it can sell well in North America. I hope that importing from Pakistan and exporting from Canada the things that they have competitive advantage can also be helpful for a decent living.

Thanks for sharing this Sufyan. The thing is not all jobs are paid by the hour or pay overtime, so it’s not just about your output, but also perceived impact and frankly, ability to advocate for yourself and negotiate a higher salary.

@Make That Change Put it into context. Your chart does not show the field involved, it doesn't show the education of people involved in the study. As an example, should a surgeon be paid the same as a nurse? I don't think so. Comparing the pay gap solely based on gender is wrong. I am strongly in favor of equality of opportunity because everyone should be given a chance regardless of their gender. However, equality of outcome is simply impossible.

I don’t get it. Median salary is exactly the middle number. If you take away the top 1%, obviously the middle number shifts to the lower end. The same thing will happens to all country. The fact that the US has way more high paying jobs than Canada is undeniable. Without fx exchange, my annual comp went up 150k by moving from Toronto to NYC doing accounting and the diff only keeps going up afterwards.

Yes,but the top 1% of other countries is not even close to the same wage disparity that is in the US. Additionally, accounting is not an average job and has the potential for high pay, depending on the company. However there are a lot of jobs that pay very poor wages in the US, otherwise known as corporate welfare. Where these people cannot earn a living wage. Overall, excluding the top 1% paints a more realistic picture for all countries.

Hey dear, please tell me in Canada Do software engineers really get paid 400k or 200k dollar per annum? A person with CS degree or diploma and 1 year experience. Does he really get that salary? Or company fires him/her in couple of months and recruit new employer? Many persons are saying that they are getting paid this amount.

Rehaan, some engineers do make this amount - they are likely to make 200k, than 400k. 400k is more of a Silicon valley grade salary. Most entry level CS jobs don't offer that salary, and it takes 3-5 years for many engineers to get to the 200k level. A good starting salary should be around 80-100k

@Make That Change All factual. I don't work for free. It's up to you to provide the facts, not partially manipulated data. In your next video, it would be fair to show a large study that goes beyond stateing gender and salary. That's gaslighting. That study, stat, etc. should only show men and women that work the standard 40 hours/week. Have similar responsibilities and education. Even still, there are problems with the stats. For ex. If statistics only listed full-time salary employees, it would still be inaccurate because many women go beyond what maternity leave offers. Therefore, it is still being listed as full-time but not working a full year.

It sounds what you’re getting at, is it’s nearly impossible to get truly factual data on this. It doesn’t exist, unless you’re running a fully funded research project in this, which we highly doubt.
