I’m all for salary transparency! By trade I’m a phlebotomist in California. But last year I landed a job on the sales side of phlebotomy supplies (needles, tubes, etc.) I work from home and occasionally travel for work. My base salary is $75,000 plus I make quarterly bonuses. In California this is a livable salary depending where you are. But as fortunate as I am I still feel a small void because I’ve always wanted to work in law enforcement. But I know if I take that route it would be harder to support a family with a pay cut and longer hours. Maybe you can take your law enforcement experience and look into the sales side of equipment and training. Everything from uniforms, Emergency lights, and tasers have sales people. Using your current skills to connect with that market could be a great path!

I never even thought about money in wanting to be a cop. Even though cops should be paid more, you get the most fulfillment out of serving and making a difference. Same goes for military.

Hi Lina! I am from San Jose CA! Police officers make about 100k! If you speak a second language you get a little more and if you have a masters degree you get even more lol! It is good money but the cost of living is pretty high (check gas prices). I’m a city bus driver and I started making about 22 per hour… in one year I’ll be making around 40. I love my job. I work my days off sometimes and I can easily make 5 or 6 K per month. I got a degree in psychology and sadly I make more as a bus driver. I wish you the best! In the East coast it seems to be starting salary as an entry level Police officer is 60k first year 65k 2nd year 70k 3rd year At least in my area. I have studied/completed an associate degree for this job (ik not truly necessary) so hopefully ill be able to get in

Nice video LC , I can't believe the pay. Here in LA ,lapd officers make $38 + an hour and minimum wage is $15. I am currently working security, looking to get into lapd.

My wife works at Nationwide Insurance and makes 63k working from home full time. 8a-4p with a paid hour lunch. I left the same job to apply for police officer. I’m starting my process with a department on Friday and out of the academy they start at 40k 😭

Hi Lina, I hope you are still sticking to your weight loss program, I know you can do it! Regardless, since your situation has changed, having a little one at home that needs their mom as well as the crazy dangerous environment that we officers are faced with these days, it would behove you to consider a change in employment at this time in my opinion. The job has always been very dangerous and the pay will never compensate enough to counter that fact. I retired from a State agency in the North East on a disability pension after almost 25 years and also collect SS disability so I'm making what you earn now by just staying home. Not bad but It cost me in blood and pain due to my injuries. I loved the job and did well but soo glad to be out at this time. You have gained experience and education from your years OTJ to land a higher paying and safer job outside of Law Enforcement. Possibly as a security consultant or corporate security. There are more jobs available now than people to fill them in all occupations because of the COVID situation. Whatever you decide, I wish you much luck and success my Blue sister! Here in my county, most agencies are starting shy of $30.. and it just goes up from there.

3.5 yrs of service, starting salary 47k to now 62k base pay w/ ot I make $90k. Originally, I wanted to be a captain, but I changed my mind I rather go to the paperwork side as a Police Team Manager. I just retired from the Army reserves and started receiving my VA benefits. So it's no need for overtime. I rather work 8-4 M-F and enjoy time with my kids since I have extra revenue. I'm still in my 30s. I'll be eligible for retirement again sooner than I thought with my active duty military buy back program. The next move is case worker

I made 84k here in WA as my base pay. I am on step 3 now and make slightly more. In the pacific north west they make around 100K but housing is insane. 2,000 for a one bedroom apartment. I have no degree and I did lateral from a different agency.

Dang that’s tough! I’m interested in becoming a police officer but I’m at 82k+ a year right now. I know departments vary but I’m sure I wouldn’t be close to 80k

Hey Lc have you thought on working Security, but Armed ? Since you have law enforcement experience that is a plus. I totally recommend it, it's safer the being a cop for sure.
