There are several RORO shipping companies that sail from Cartagena Colombia to Manzanillo, Panama. The prices between the individual companies are not significant. The transit time is usually 1-2 days. We offer an all-inclusive stress-free service that includes customs clearance and on-site agents in both Colombia and Panama.

Very cool this breakdown of expenses Lavi and Oli 👏👌 I always consider three basic and most expressive points in a trip: 1. Fuel (generally represents 40/50% of the trip cost). 2. Hosting 3. Food. Congratulations to you and keep it up 🙌🚀 Great trip!! 🛣🏕🏞

It's a shame that the transport costs blew out, but that's just the times these days. The mighty V-Strom will always be very reliable. Bumblebee is good to you! The sightseeing is worth it. That's a lot of amazing memories right there. That fuel cost is incredible! Lots of people have said that South American accommodation is not as cheap as it was in the past. Well done on keeping such a detailed account of all your spending. I think you've done really well keeping the costs down. When it comes down to it, you've got to be happy on the road and sometimes you have to pay for that happiness.

When you guys go to Vancouver make sure you take the ferry over to Vancouver Island. Then go up Island on 19A to Qualicum then take highway 4 from Qualicum to Port Alberni. From Port Alberni stay on highway 4 all the way to Tofino And Ucluelet have fun. The Road is crazy winding from Port Alberni so enjoy the ride.

You've done so well over a year especially 2 flights for you both plus freight. That's already a huge part of the budget. You will probably have kind offers from people on your travels too. Otherwise hostels and dormitories are cheapest but some tourist areas in countries can be very expensive. Like in Italy or even Australia and those areas are often where there's scammers, thieves. The star house was amazing and what a kind man. These are some of the sweetest surprises and you both are so friendly and sweet many will be only too happy to help you.

Excellent video. I do not think you can get the daily split further down. Sometimes you just must check in to a clean Hotel- something We missed quite often. We do not tent that often, unless we have found a beautiful spot, like last time in Oman, Mashira island. One more thought. We are so much surprised and honored over all the good souls on our Planet. Sometimes a full tank, sometimes a cup of coffee, a bite of meal, or a shelter over our head. A fair trade off - I am an old Chiropractor- makes things smoother and as barter trade correct.

I am amazed at how well you have done controlling costs. For me, since I am only riding and filming rides in Oregon my biggest expense was equipment - cameras, hard drives, mounting poles - I spent around $2,500. The next biggest expense is gas because it is right now around $4.75 USD per gallon in Oregon. I am always shocked when I have to fill my tank and it is $15 USD.

Fuel Economy is great, so acc. to my calculations it sums up in 5-6 liters/100KM roughly @1 Pound per Liter Gasoline. you need almost double here in Main EU Thanks 4 the Video, I love to hear these kind of facts. It shows that living on the road requires almost same expenses as if you'd live settled in an apartment, eat, drink, drive around, so called "normal working life". Glad you chose first option 🔥 Safe Travels 🥰

You are doing well for two people even if over what you were expected. I only spent 30 days doing 6500 miles round Scandinavia. I camped every night bar one when I had a night in a cabin and maybe 10 nights free wild camping, I didn't keep records like you have. In total i spent just £2100 Riding in Scandinavia fuel is very expensive and I took a lot of ferries which cost a good amount. Food I cooked myself most of the time and had some meals in road side stops. Campsites were good ranging from £10 to £20 per night the cabin was not any more expensive either but, I just got lucky on that. If you work it out per day not that much different and there is only one of me with no transcontinental flying or shipping.
@LaviandOllie
@LaviandOllie Жыл бұрын
We’ve managed to stay in budget for the general every day expenses but of course the shipping is more than we budgeted for, nevertheless we’ll make it to the end somehow 😁 Especially with your support Robert you are amazing, thank you! £2100 for 30 days is not bad at all when you consider it’s Europe and everything is more there! Wild camping is he most fun and the cheapest accomodation option ☺️

I think I mentioned it before, but my biggest 2 road trips were: 1 From southern Alberta to Spokane, Washington, Portland, Oregon, then down the coast highway to Tijuana, Mexico and home via the Grand Canyon. 2 From here to Mount Rushmore on Interstate 90, then through Chicago and Gary, Indiana to stay at my church's university in rural Michigan. From there onward to visit friends and family in Windsor (across from Detroit), London (with a side trip to Niagara Falls) and an hour past Toronto, Ontario. We got as far east as Kingston to see the Thousand islands on a boat tour of the St. Lawrence river. Each were about 4 weeks. As for cost, this was more than 30 years ago. When you're in the US the Interstate highways have rest stops about every 45 miles or so. You can stay for free up to 12 hours. I'm not sure about setting up a tent but we slept in the car several times. You might not want to use them though. I think I also recommended taking the coast highway, which we took from Portland to Los Angeles. From L.A. to San Diego at 10 pm on a Sunday night I-5 was bumper to bumper, going only 30 miles per hour. I kept wondering where the car accident was that was slowing traffic down but there was none. If you take the coast highway there are many spots where the road is literally right alongside the ocean. From San Simeon to San Fran. there's a spot with some major cliffs you ride on the edge of and the curves in the road are spectacular. Going northbound you'll be on the inside lane which should feel safer. As I look on Google Maps what people call the coast highway. the 101, is quite a bit inland. It's the 1 I'm describing to you. I remember we were camping at Half Moon Bay just outside the Bay Area and met some German tourists. I said "We came from a long way too. We're from Canada." The guy said "oh, for us is no difference". I thought that was interesting. Here the big dipper is in the night sky right overhead all year. There at 11 pm I saw it much smaller and coming up over the horizon. I like your new hair Lavi. Anyway happy cycling and I am praying for you.
@LaviandOllie
@LaviandOllie Жыл бұрын
One day we will do a full tour of the US to see all the amazing places it has to offer, unfortunately we are limited with time on this trip! The coast highway sounds very nice though. 4 week road trips are far more sensible we will stick to those in the future🤪 Thanks for watching Les!

Here in Australia I cannot find any insurer that will cover me for motorcycle trips. Still hope to ship the 1050XT to the UK (friend of mine owns a bike shipping company and does this on a regular basis), do the IoM TT and some touring around The Old Dart before I get too old to do this stuff.

We're on our RTW trip now so have got very behind with your videos. Looked this one up as curious. I'll be really interested to know your breakdown through Mexico, USA and Canada as we started in Alaska and are now in Mexico. We have spent far more than you, particularly on food. We can't live on bread and cheese at our age! We've also started with the most expensive countries so we're hoping it gets cheaper as we go. Also, accommodation is far more expensive in the States. We've done about 50/50 camping. Again, our age!! Also, again probably due to age but our travel insurance is three times the cost of yours. Have you done another breakdown yet for the rest of the trip? Good video guys. Thanks.

Hey guys! Yes, America was really expensive for us too. Are you going all the way down to Argentina? It will definitely get cheaper in South America, do you have to app IOverlander? You can often find inexpensive rooms with the app 🙂 also we were always looking on booking.com for the cheapest room 😊 We wish you all the best and if we can help in anyway please write us a message on FB! Happy travels

Heavy duty plastic bags like for cement are a great idea for lining top boxes, panniers and rucksacks and a multifuel or gas stove or even rocket stove burning wood shavings twigs are great as is a very small light pressure cooker of 1.5 litre. It will save you a lot on kerosene, petrol or gas if you are several days camping in wilderness places. Mind you I travelled 3 months at a time around Himalaya and Hindu Kush mountains and had to carry stuff so I took the minimum I could but had cheap army surplus camo trousers and para boots for years even trekking and biking as many despatched used them on the motorbike in all day rain and have dry feet. If you stay dry you won't feel so cold so keeping dry clothes in heavyweight plastic bags will keep them dry even in monsoon deluge. Best to be prepared for the unexpected like having drinking water in outback places like deserts. You will know and weight is important as the bike is already a handful 2 up.

All our luggage is waterproof so luckily it hasn’t been an issue, plus we always try and put our rain gear over us when it rains and we’ve always managed to get to somewhere warm eventually ☺️ We tried a multi fuel but deemed it too difficult to use and dangerous, we mostly just boil water and do pour over cooking that way we hardly use any gas and our bottles last us a very long time.

There's a benefit when traveling two up.many times as a solo traveler you cant get accommodation at half the price of a couple, most places cater per room that take at least 2. Also 2 on the bike I think works out less per person ,than one person per bike , regardless of the weight/fuel etc. So I think youre doing really well.

Interesting breakdown of costs. However, what about the offset of costs from E.g. t-shirt sales, KZfaq income, sponsors etc? Also, re-your comments over the last few episodes regarding sourcing vegetarian food and the infamous bread & cheese! Having followed other travellers on KZfaq (most of whom are also vegetarian) have said that they would sometimes eat meat based foods if required if a.) there was no other option or b.) that considering they may not ever travel that way again then it would be a shame to miss out on the experience and local culture. Interesting approach don’t you think? Keep safe guys 👍🏻
@LaviandOllie

In the future we’ll make a seperate video about the KZfaq income but that plus the T shirt sales etc but it definitely doesn’t cover these costs! We don’t have any sponsors yet! (Actually we just got our very first one but up until now it’s all been on savings). We would also consider eating meat dishes if needed, depending on how nice they look 🤪 but mostly we stick to our vegetarian diet. Cheers Ross 😁

Interesting good records. Those little expenses really add up. Even for one the fuel will be about the same. Rooms just a little cheaper. Air/ferry fares less. So you seem to do well. RTW PAUL has a good break down on his expenses gor give years on the road. About 50 USD per day. He rides a KTM 500 ex single. Alone. Lot of shipping costs. Camps a lot. Makes a thermos of coffee at camp. Grocery store stocks. Enjoy North America. A lot to see in Vancover. Hit the islands as much as you can. Weather time lag on these vids. Thank you Jose 😁 Are they the years of the bikes or your ages? 😂 We got the bike shipped with an agent based in the Netherlands with CMA CGM but I wouldn’t recommend our agent so just try and find any agent worldwide that can book through CMA CGM Senegal, not an advisable route though because it was very expensive and took 3 months! We flew just normal airlines via london. Thanks for watching 😁

Does that include the price of a brand new motorcycle plus add on extras like luggage plus all VAT & registration on road fees. Also I have noticed that KZfaqrs tend to fuss more over nerdy tech gear like drones cameras & battery’s ,plus other gadgets ,rather than their most important piece of equipment ,their motorcycle which should take priority .
@LaviandOllie
@LaviandOllie Жыл бұрын
No this is the running cost from day 1 of hitting the road. Motorcycle costs around £8000 second hand (though ours was sponsored), luggage and gear probably another £1500. Everything is including VAT. We only fuss about something if it breaks, luckily our motorcycle is an adventure machine and has so far been very reliable. Our electronics are always breaking! 😂

@@LaviandOllie In the last 50 years or so I have owned & serviced quite a few Suzukis of various capacity’s . I have never had one break down on me ,only the odd puncture ,sorted at the side of the road . This was only possible because I kept up regular maintenance & did regular checks on vital vulnerable parts . I reckon you both have been fortunate that the bike is a Suzuki ,as lesser makes would have give up & collapsed in a heap by now ,but it doesn’t pay to get complacent . A bike is like a wife ,they like a bit of love & attention ,& don’t like to be taken for granted ,or they will play up . Take care both of you 👍

Hi Lavi, hi Ollie, congrats on your 'anniversary', from other's cost calculations that I've seen I'd say you're doing well, as others did not have such high freight costs. They were averaging around 10k in €/£/$ for one person on a bike smaller than your's. Al in all you're going well, but accommodation in the USA expensive and moreso in Canada I believe which could be balanced out in Asia tho'. Not sure about your Russia plans tho🤔.
