How much am I looking to pay for a lawyer on a petit theft misdemeanor? I didn't get arrested but got a citation and a court date. Thank you.

If it is in Washington State, we would guess 3k-5k for most firms if this is the first offense. It depends on the court and circumstances. You may qualify for a public defender for free.

Public Defenders (Public Pretenders) don’t work for you. They work to help the DA get plea deals so their conviction rate stays high and my experience has been that Public Defenders always try to talk you out of going to trial for the smallest reasons as if it’s a burden for them and they can’t be bothered. This is my life we’re talking about! I’m strapped for cash but I need you to fight for me and believe in me when I tell you what happened and when the discovery shows exactly what I claim and also shows a contradiction in what they plaintiff/law enforcement is alleging and what I’m stating took place. Yet they still want me to plead guilty and take the plea deal. No! I need someone to fight for me. This is my life. Public defenders are a joke. At least in Colorado they are. Just because I’m hurting financially at the moment doesn’t mean I should be thrown away and told to just accept what I’ve been offered. I need help bad and I have nowhere to go to find the help I need. Any suggestions? I’m so desperate. Thank you.

You people created this problem because you get off on punishing and "being tough on crime". You demand max sentences, you want the death penalty. When your cops shoot a man over nothing, you applaud them and attack any DA who wants to press charges. You elect only the toughest, cruelest DAs and judges because punishment is what gets you harrrd. The Public Defender you're talking about KNOWS that judge has it in for you, cause thats the system YOU set up! So, the PD tries to keep you away from that judge by doing the plea deal. America does not care about innocent or guilty, they care about how much you want to pay to save your freedom. THATS the reality YOU created. Sorry for the wake up call...
