We escaped winter and headed south on a 96 day road trip. We recap this winter season with all of the details on where we went, our favorite finds, what broke along the way, and how much it cost. We also share some of the lessons we learned after RVing in the US for 3 months in the winter.

Thanks for the breakdowns. It was really interesting to know what a trip like that costs. Love how thorough and detailed u were! Also enjoyed Mel's breakdown dance haha. On another note...what are the animals behind you? Are they goats? Lol.

Welcome home! Love all the stuff you brought that you didn't use. Especially the giant box of baking supplies! You'd think we wouldn't have similar problems in our microcamper, but we still end up with stuff like microspikes that we don't end up using all the time.

Great recap of your trip. I would have loved to see your cost graph. Good tip on using a special credit card to track costs. I'm guessing you used mapping software for location to location calculations, and then subtracted that from the total to determine an aggregate local travel number. I have done similar analysis of our trips and besides gas, our next biggest expense item was buying gifts for the grandkids. LOL Followed by park camping fees, and tour costs. The insights you get from reviewing it all are very beneficial for next trip planning.

Thanks, yeah we really just did approximate costs, but it's definitely helpful as a reference for future planning. We're going down to Baja, Mexico this year, so we not entirely sure what to expect for expenses. We expect that most things will be cheaper, but not everything.

My Tavel itinerary with my girlfriend….last three summers …left Florida with truck and toy hauler, loaded with two motorcycles, two kayaks, four bicycles, traveled out to California,Arizona,Utah , Idaho, Montana, Colorado, 9 national parks , two broken trailer leaf spring, two flat tires, 9,000 miles each summer, averaged 5k gas expenses. Also visits with friends in every state, helps with campgrounds expenses. Both are retired and healthy, no Covid or sick, be back next summer

We just finished a trip of similar duration (90 days) with our small travel trailer. The distance travelled was 20,000 Kilometres. We travelled from Southern Ontario to the Yukon, all over B.C. and Alberta, and every place in between. Our expenses were pretty much in line with yours when miles travelled are taken into account. Just like you we travelled a lot locally. Our trailer held up very well except when we were in the Yukon where a kitchen drawer lost its mounting and smashed on the floor. That was a minor repair and everything else held up nicely. Thanks for sharing and we look forward to your future videos.

Do you have airbags installed on the truck? Whats the dry weight of your trailer?
@HomeARoam
@HomeARoam 3 ай бұрын
No airbags, just stock suspension. But we do use a weight distribution tow hitch, which I'd highly recommend. Dry trailer weight is 5,500 lbs. Truck is rated to tow 10,500 lbs.

@@HomeARoam i rock a anderson wd hitch setup; i have the 5.3 10spd, 9500lb towing capacity - with the hitch alone i find the bounce is still enough to warrant air bags; watching your videos i was surprised how level'd it looked. 5100lb dry on mine.

What was your average cost per day for campgrounds on the California coast ?
@HomeARoam
@HomeARoam 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ron, we stayed at State parks (about $25/night, no hookups) and private parks (about $70/night, hookups, but we usually got 50% off with our passport america membership). We found that there is a very wide range in pricing for campgrounds in California. We even saw some places priced over $100/night.

We didn't have any RV memberships that year, which may have saved us some money for sure. Now we carry a Passport America membership, America the beautiful, and just bought a Texas state park pass (since we're in Texas this winter). We'll include mentioning those in our summary video in the spring.
