If you guys want to build a real sick civic it can't stay d or b series period, the h22 H2B swap is still nice all motor and CHEAP!. K's are where it's at once you go K you never go back but it's many $$$$. and well worth it.

The bores are floating, soon as you boosted it, all it's reliable went out the window. That doesn't say much about your experts if they didn't tell you this first. You wouldn't Turbo a Subaru N/A block and tell people its reliable would you? For god sake one of you owns a Focus RS that keeps blowing head gaskets for the same reason. Moog's mini is a joke, he throw away the only thing Mini's do well HANDLE for what, Hp you can't put to the ground( Hey Moog my Mini use to be an 850 but my head leaves bruises on my ankles) If he actually caned a real UK "hot BMC Mini" round a track that JAP Mini would be for sale so fast. And the truth will set you free.

There's quite a few companies that offer kits for this, but your looking at $3k (aus) plus. If your a DIY type, the last of the line minis (here in the UK anyway) came with fuel injection.

Don't think you could. To go full motor you would have to engine swap to a different motor to get the power that this motor makes with a turbo at this price point.

@@eppyz that wouldnt be that expensive I think, it made like 170/180hp so you dont need the most expensive engine. Something like 1.6 vtec with some mods or an 1.8

@@eppyz I’ve seen 200hp on pump gas from the d16 vtec… p28 pistons, headers, intake, and a HUGE camshaft the one from rocket motorsports “stage 7” has made 200hp NA on a few different cars

If Moog still had the Exige a K-swap would've been a great project.

Head swap, y7 to y8 then a cam. Makes a big power difference. D16z6 or y8 heads also have tiny ports, when opened up flow just as good or better than b16 heads.

Minis are 750 kg stock ad a Minisport subframe and a B16 engine and auxiliaries = 900kg My factory 1.8 Clio weights 820kg assume the Civics about the same. It goes bye bye 👍

@@viperidaenz1 my car in the book says 950 kerb weight But it actually weights 820 on the scales, Cars from the 90s manufactures sent there cars to be weighed with full leathers Air con sunroof which adds about 100kg So to keep insurance down and for shipping reasons not to be fined for extra weight simple,,,, ish.

Yeah, rusefi, speeduino or similar would be great and fit the type of build better. But they probably get the haltech ecu and support almost for free, so an easy choice for them. Though not as interesting to watch:)

Yeah, as soon as they said okay Haltech ECU, I said yeah nah haha, not a (real) budget buid.

Another thing to consider is if you're paying someone to tune they may not want to use open source. "Everyone" knows Haltech, Holley, etc.

The Haltech is actually pretty reasonably priced. In the grand scheme of things when you have other people working on your car, it might be worth it for time saved. If you DIY everything, a speeduino would have run this car very well. But even a P06 ECU with CROME could have worked well.

@@oambrosia Finding someone who tunes MS cant be that hard, speeduino for example is very similar. Josh who developed it is even from Australia:)But as i said, probably free haltech and they know the guys, so an easy choice for them.

This kind of tends to be the sisutation for a lot of places in North America. Esp where I live. I can't even just go to a junkyard and find parts to even frankenstien stuff together anymore.

same here in Europe, for about 10k€ I can get a good bmw e90/e92 330d with rear wheel drive and 265hp.. and this before removing the dpf filter and a good tune perhaps is boring on the tuning side, but is very reliable and sure as hell is a blast to drive

Limited Slip Differential. Nail on head Yizzer. As it happens I drive a 98 Teg type R(Civic with pretensions 😁) and I've had a few FWD cars in my time and driven a fair few more, including a non Type R 1.8 SiR Teg and the _major_ difference I noticed straight away with the R, wasn't the lower weight, fettled engine and all that JDM stuff, it was the LSD. Almost from the very first corner. Totally transforms a FWD car and tbh I wouldn't drive an FWD in "anger" without one. Imho if Moog's Mini with the EK9 R B16 has the LSD it would have come with stock, it should walk away from the Civics on anything like a twisty track/road.

@@MrGrentchI drove a friend's DC5R back in the days. Compared to my Lsvtec DC9 it felt tame but faster. So I totally get what you mean. I have a CL9 with a tune and headers+ no LSD means I don't drive it in anger. LoL

Jesus. I know nothing about all this stuff but yeah if that's true then I have instantly lost interest in this. I have no interest in track driving but was dreaming about a daily driver that was also great fun to drive 😭

From memory, my Haltech elite 2500 has OBD2... So all good in terms of check engine lights.
