I feel the need to add something really important: in today's capitalistic society people have the ILLUSION that WORKING HARD=MORE MONEY. But that's relative considering that the most hard-working people on earth are the ones (probably children) making our clothes, phones etc. and getting paid something like 1$ / week. Also, a person working a minimum wage job does not always work less hard than an entrepreneur. Making money should not be exclusively associated with working hard, but also with the concept of luck, the circumstances, the country you live in etc. That's also why in the grand scheme of things, money does not and cannot add to your value as a human.

El_ Mi I totally agree, money CAN bring comfort, security, and at some level personal happiness (like being able to travel, or going to eat out once in a while, treating your family members or friends..) but after a certain treshold the well-being money brings declines, and people become bored with the possibilities of it, while consuming more and more.

Exactly. Even having expertise doesn't counterbalance this otherwise doctors would make way more than CEOs. Capitalism relies on the hard labour of low paid workers. The higher up you go the less work is done. I work at a billion dollar media company and I know the chief does less work than those below him.

Susan Ma damn idk but this kinda came off as you trying to invalidate this person’s struggle just bc they’re young, this is a stressful situation to them right now, and i think we should encourage them to try to stress less about it. Obviously it’s great thes save some, but they should enjoy their young years still. My advice is that ; every saving is a saving, even if u save up 0.5 cents monthly, thats still going to add up into something later. So to make it easier on yourself, instead of controlling how much you’re saving, you could try to think about how much you’re going to spend.

Throughout the life experience I've managed to gather in my short life on earth, I justify my coffee purchases for the same reason. 1. It makes me happy. If it makes you happy and you can afford it, I believe it is worth the purchase. 2. You are paying for the workspace, environment, and sometimes a little social interaction goes a long way. 3. I would rather be less well-off and social drinking good espresso than ~slightly more well-off~ alone drinking something cheap. I think we forget that life is meant to be lived based off of the constant negative connotations associated with spending money ever. It is your life and its meant to be LIVED!! with that said, invest in an extension chord because that microwave has me on edge lollllll

I did all my travelling on virtually no money,how did I do that?,between the ages of 30 and 60 then our UK Govt had changed the law so all the ladies of my generation who had worked hardfor a lifetime on the promise of retirement and a life of ease and travel had to work till the age of 66 which totally pissed off most of them and also put great distress on some. Then I rejoined the workforce and now have reached that new state pension age and there is covid so there's no travel. Which proves I was right.

French person here : Your cold water bill is included in the rent, and you pay for the gaz used to heat your hot water. Also, the fact that you divide everything in weeks is killing me. In France, and in most of Europe I think, we don't pay for anything by weeks, we pay by months. The wages/salaries/incomes are received monthly and all the bills are paid monthly (in like, 99.99% of the cases). So that's VERY complicated for me to really have an idea of the cost. I get that it would make more sense for Us citizen "at a glance" though.
@alasan
@alasan 4 жыл бұрын
US person here and we pay all our bills monthly! However, depending on where you work and if you’re a salaried or hourly worker, you may get paid weekly, biweekly, or monthly. I believe he just split it into two weeks to make adding together his expenses more easily.
@lmvdam
@lmvdam 4 жыл бұрын
I was also thinking that if you DO want to calculate the weekly costs you have to multiply your monthly cost by 12 and then divide it by 52 because not every month has exactly 4 weeks.

Only Americans who live in Southern California (like me) or New York think it's cheap in Paris. And anyway, I don't agree. I was there. I don't even think it is less than Los Angeles, I think it is probably comparable to Los Angeles. His rent is 995 euros, which is $1172 for his tiny studio with no full kitchen. In Los Angeles you'd at least have a full kitchen for that cost.

I live in Geneva (Switzerland), and my expenses aren't that much per week. I just checked and apparently the cost of living index in Geneva is 27,26 % higher than in New York. I guess I don't just spend that much money. I rarely go to restaurants, I have a coffee maker at home etc.

this made me think a lot about my own relationship to money. sometimes idc how much money i spend bc i feel like im investing in myself and i like the things i buy. sometimes im buying necessities and i want them to last a long time and so i dont mind paying more for "luxary". but the way i was conditioned to think about money i feel like is in such a negative way and i'll hear that little voice in my head saying "hmm idk is it worth it? it's kinda pricey" but like honestly is money even real?? america is in trillion dollar debt like how??? so yeah i mean i feel like it's important to be smart with your money (save it, make sure you pay off the important stuff) but also spend it in a way that makes you happy and is necessary for you
