$5,000 for an epidural 😂 the healthcare in the USA is freaking atrocious.

Goddess Flower That’s awesome! We had about $5,000 saved in our baby fund which has been very comfortable for us. I think you’re off to a great start - best of luck👶🏼

Sorry, but those medical costs are mind-boggling to anyone living outside of the US. We pay between 400-500 USD for a hospital delivery when you have no medical referral for your delivery (home births are the norm, but it's fairly easy to get a medical consideration. If it's your choice to go with epidural you are automatically classified as a medical birth case and get full coverage). And yes, we pay taxes to help pay for shared Medicare, but boy, is it worth it to know any woman can have a safe birth for just a couple of hundred bucks.

Anuschka van Dijke I personally qualify for Medicaid during pregnancy. So I live in the US and my pregnancies and births and babies are covered. However, if you make over a certain limit you don’t and have to use insurance or pay out of pocket

Brooke Loffredo omg! That’s crazy that only $100 made the difference. Insurance is insane. I almost feel you should have your children and then build your income. It’s unfair. I’m sorry.

Brooke Loffredo I wonder if you’d qualify for any future babies as long as your income is the same. The bigger the family the more likely you will.

This is really how much it costs to have a baby in USA - in Australia it cost me nothing for 2 births. I feel sorry for anyone living in the US!

35 weeks and bought bigger sized underwear just last week 😆. We're definitely keeping things minimal over here and we get to save a huge sum because a friend giving us a stroller. Also, anything at all with pregnancy is covered by the insurance here, which is a huge saving and blessing! So interesting to see your detailed financing. I didn't document mine as well. :)

Its very interesting how things differ! I had my son in January, and my insurance didnt cover 100% of prenatal visits... we would have a good $250 expense every ultrasound and about $80 each normal visit... and then in Jan when my insurance reset, they charged my son’s part of insurance about $1,500 in expenses on top of hitting my $3,500 out of pocket max for myself...

When you just had your second baby and only bought 1-a new Car seat and 2- a double stroller 🤣 I got little things like some new towels but that’s pretty much it. Oh a lot of our expenses were actually for cloth diapers

What did they charge for the baby’s stay? Or did they just charge for your stay?

There is absolutely no reason why newborn and baby clothes should be divided by gender. It’s a baby. Let it wear every color of the rainbow as long as it’s comfortable.

I have not visited the baby aisle anywhere. I live in a state where home birth is not supported so I have to pay for midwife out of pocket. The birth will be 4,000. This wipes out my savings and leaves little for baby gear and supplies.

The max out of pocket your discussing for delivery costs, is that the same as your deductible?
@Kristi15
@Kristi15 3 жыл бұрын
No, your deductible is usually what you pay first before your insurance starts paying the coinsurance. After that, your insurance will pay a set amount (called counsurance) up to your out of pocket max. Once you reach your out of pocket, the insurance will pay at 100% remainder of year. Some plans apply your deductible to you out of pocket max as well :)
